  1. Good question! I kept asking myself but this thread prompted me to do a little research. Nope. Definately nope. It is indeed the shell but the cause is not friction. Have a look at this picture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3MpUJGm.jpg The complete driving current is passed through the projectile armature, which leads to very high current densities. This heats the armature quickly and turns parts of it into plasma.
  2. You can create the model in any software you please than can export in a format that 3dsmax can open. You will need someone with access to 3dsmax to export it as .edm.

  5. Lower RPM means higher pitch, not lower. There is absolutely no validity to this at all. Thrust is first and foremost dictated by engine power output and your engine craves RPM to drive the supercharger at high enough RPM so it supplies enough boost and the engine itself will provide more power also. The RPM governor is there to optimally set the pitch for your power output and airspeed so you don't have to. Worry about your engine life and power output, not your prop pitch.

  10. Helikopter mit Bodenradar wird kaum funktionieren. Die aktuelle Lage ist ein bewusster Kompromiss, da es relativ schwer ist, die tatsächlichen Fähigkeiten jedes einzelnen Radars nachzubilden (für ein halbwegs ausgereiftes PD-Radar leuchtet ein durchschnittlicher Helikopter allerdings IRL wie ein Christbaum, und das bei jeder Geschwindigkeit). Gleichzeitig wollten sie damals die BS-Flieger nicht zu stark den Airquakern ausliefern... Das Bodenradar wird für die FC-Module nichts ändern, zumal ich auch stark bezweifle, dass irgendein FC-Modul ein Bodenradar bekommt, sofern es nicht auf kompletten DCS-Level aufgerüstet wird.

  12. I think the verdict was that the models that satisfactorily mimic real life behaviour are too complicated for online computation at this time. Personally i'd be willing to settle even for a highly abstracted version in favor of having no model of wake turbulence at all, but i realize this is a complicated topic.
  13. It can happen when the oil is very cold. In principal, there's no consequences to the engine of running too high oil pressure apart from bursting an oil line (which is pretty bad though) but i don't think this is modeled. You wouldn't even attempt to start the engine with the oil at such high viscosity. The oil being very viscous on the other hand can have dire effects on the engine, such as the oil film in the cylinder tearing which will rapidly lead to jammed pistons IRL.
  14. But ED don't do raytracing. They do something much more simple (probably VBAP or even simpler methods). This is not about positioning audio sources, it is about doing away with canned room simulations, that is, the transfer function of the room will evolve with regards to where you stand in it. I'm very much curious to see where this goes and if it does what they claim, last time i did raytracing simulations for University, the (admittedly shitty) desktops they had had to render a few minutes for one scene (one stationary audio source).

  19. Heating, expanding, etc. doesn't change a thing as long as the absolute moisture stays the same. In such conditions, you either need to cool the air or compress it or both to get below the dew point. Since burning hydrocarbons yields a lot of water though, the moisture content is changed, which condensates when the exhaust stream cools down to ambient temperature. Depending on the fuel used, the same can *potentially* happen in a rocket exhaust. A2A rockets use rather specialised fuels though. I don't think the exhaust contains much water vapor if any.
  20. Sustain, no. All engines suffer oil pressure drop once negative g is sustained, even modern jet engines. Flying inverted or sustaining anything that is not positive g for more than a few seconds puts every pilot in a world of hurt. Only a few very specialized aerobatic planes are exempt from fuel lines running dry, but i doubt even those do not have the oil pressure problem.

  23. Gerade was Radar angeht, da ist heutzutage vieles von dem, was vor 20 Jahren das tollste Ding seit geschnitten Brot war, mittlerweile recht gut bekannt. Jemand mit dem Wissensstand eines PhD in Radartechnik weiß da ganz gut bescheid, ohne mit einem Fuß im Gefängnis zu stehen.
