You are the man. Thanks a lot. Rep on the way, lol

^^ I think what you actually meant is you miss seeing the stuff you should be seeing, and not the stuff you shouldn't be seeing, therefore you don't want the black dots back, what you want is visible planes at the visible range, right?
-
To be honest, I'm not too worried about what the exact distance IRL is and what exact distance ED will decide to implement. I'm more worried about the current 'black dots' that let me see planes and missiles 30+ km away against the sky, while at the same time I can't see my wingman close to me, or a dogfighting opponent. Could you tell us if they're going to get rid of this 'black dot' stuff? I mean, as I see it, this 1 pixel dot is a good idea as long as the dot is about the same color as the plane, not a black dot against the sky, right?

Thrustmaster Warthog combined joystick problem
PeaceSells replied to MadMonty's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm having the same problem, only I use the T16000M HOTAS intead of the Warthog. It happens all the time if I have Teamspeak on while I load a profile. Without Teamspeak it also happens, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes I can get rid of it by closing all programs, disconnecting and connecting the HOTAS, then opening TARGET again and loading the profile again. Sometimes I can't. I have no idea what's going on, I didn't have this issue before. -
Ok, but whenever you don't have a chute and need to stop ASAP, remember: airbrake + wheelbrake!
-
That R-73 was surely fired before you see it on your screen (due to ping, netcode, etc.). Which means that, although you see it coming out from your 3 o'clock, it probably came more like from your 2 o'clock or something...
-
Cool... One question: do you wheelbrake while rolling on the runway aerobraking with nose high? I ask this because I didn't until recently (I thought it would lower my nose too early), but now I'm doing it, while pulling back the stick to keep nose high as long as possible, and I have the impression it's being more effective.

^^good to read this again, I didn't even remember the manual...

In relation to landing the Su-27... IMO the biggest difficulty is that, if you fly at 8-10º AoA towards the head of the runway, the IRST sensor at the plane's nose obstruct your view of the head of the runway. To overcome this you have to come with smaller AoA (higher speed) until you're so close to the runway that you don't need visual contact to its head anymore, then you increase AoA and reduce speed by slowly flaring...

^^ Thanx for the info. Could you tell me if we have to have the exact same version of DCS that the server is running (1.5.6.1340.230 - open beta) or can I play with DCS latest version (1.5.8.12823 - stable)?
-
What's the current limit? My ping is around 150-200ms, I don't know if that's why I'm being disconnected...
-
I'm running v1.5.8.12823, but thread's first post says server is v1.5.6.1340.230 - Open Beta. Is this supposed to not allow me to play? I can join, start-up a Ka-50, fly the route to waypoint 1 and then I'm disconnected usually at this point. Not sure if I should revert my version to the server's version... Also, I'm not running SimpleRadio yet (it's not in the server's description inside DCS or the mission briefing), but I'm already installing it. I do want to try this server, but I don't want to revert versions if I'm not sure it will solve the problem... Btw, is there a plan to update the server to DCS last version? Thanks!

Do you think we should be able to see planes at dogfight range?
-
You can launch two R-77 simultaneously at two different targets using the radar TWS2 mode (track while scan 2). I just don't remember the exact procedure, but I remember it was simple.
-
I don't think you can kill tanks with them, at least I wasn't able to... Yeah, lots of attention right now towards v2.5 and the Hornet. But I just felt like registering this somehow, it's been like that for a loooong time... I remember first flying DCS (in the Su-25T) more than one year ago and the 23mm already had no effect on armored vehicles... I hope they fix it, because the 23mm gunpods are very cool weapons!
-
That head bouncing for me is one of the cool things on the F-15 module. It gives me the sensation of actually being there.

Quick test comparing destructive power of 7.62mm and 23mm gun calibers in DCS. For 7.62mm I used the Huey miniguns, and for the 23mm I used the Ka-50 gunpods. It's DCS v2.2.0.12843, but it's the same for v1.5. Maybe the 7.62mm should be nerfed and the 23mm should be buffed? Videos: 7.62mm: 23mm: Tracks attached. 7.62mm.trk 23mm.trk

More specifically... I guess a 33 pilot can try to drag the fight to the 33's domain: very low speed tight turning, where it's significantly superior to the 27. But at the same time, a good 27 pilot will probably try to avoid that and bring the fight to where the 27 is much better: sustained turns at higher speeds. I guess a 27 pilot would have the advantage at avoiding the 33's domain, more than the other way around. Against AI, I can fly a 33 in its domain and win, but I can also fly a 27 in its domain and win. But I suspect that if I did that against humans, I would get beaten pretty hard in a 33.

^^ Yes, the Caucasus 2.5 module.
-
I agree, you'll never have a 100% accurate result, but you could have a pretty good idea...
-
Actual results rank higher than any 'explanation' you may think you have for which plane is the better dogfighter. On top of that, aeronautical texts refer to the real aircraft, not DCS.
-
Ok, this is my own subjective opinion, but I have to say that considering the price we have today for items similar to TrackIr (about the price of a DCS module), talking about budget doesn't make a lot of sense, specially if you have the budget to own a PC capable of running DCS - and that is not even mentioning owning joystick, HOTAS, etc. You'd choose 3DOF over 6DOF to save what, $20?
-
Well, as I understand, 'maneuverability' is kinda vague because I guess it would be hard to come up with a number to define it. You can have better maneuverability at certain speeds but worse at other speeds, better turn radius but worse turn rate, better sustained turn rate but worse instantaneous turn rate... I guess 'better dogfighter' is also hard to define with a single number, but you can always take note of dogfight results...
-
Better dogfighter, IMO. And, to me, that is the 27... (but I only have experience using both against AI).
