Vikhr missiles stop working after a while and nose dive

Thanks for that info!! -
Thrustmaster Warthog combined joystick problem
PeaceSells replied to MadMonty's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
^^ That explains why I had so much problems with TARGET when I was using Teamspeak. It started when I started using the push-to-talk button in Teamspeak and never ended anymore. Nowadays I just don't use Teamspeak. I guess TARGET doesn't really do a good job at hidding the controllers in Windows, does it? -
Great advice, I would hire you as public relations!!

Sorry, but the cockpit buttons lights problem is there since 2.2. The memory leak should have been the first thing fixed... it breaks multiplayer for many of us, myself included. While "don't install betas if you can't stand bugs" is true, it really doesn't justify some stuff... You just can't say we can't stand bugs. We wouldn' be playing DCS release version if we couldn't stand bugs.

104th Phoenix - Operation Longbow - Dynamic PvP Mission
PeaceSells replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in Multiplayer
You can join MP using modded cockpit for better vision at night and play with other players that don't have it? -
^^ In-game, yes, they are, but only if you get close. With Vikhrs you can launch way out of their range.
-
Yes, exactly. Vikhr missiles travel very fast and you can launch the first one from 10 km away if you use Launch Override. But you need to turn laser off after the impact (while countdown timer is on the HUD), otherwise it won't let you launch another one, even with Launch Override on. (Plus, with Launch Override on, you don't need to have the HUD circle exactly over the target in order to be able to fire)
-
You don't need to turn laser on before firing the Vikhr, as a matter of fact the correct procedure is to haver laser off, if I remember correctly, as it will turn on automatically when you fire. After the launch, a countdown timer will appear on the HUD, indicating time remaining to auto turn laser off again. You can't fire another Vikhr before the timer reaches zero, unless you manually turn laser off (this way you can launch 2 or 3 Vikhrs in one pass). Another thing you can do to increase the numbers of Vikhrs fired in one pass is activate Launch Override, so you're able to launch the first missile from 10 km away.

^^ You mean ground units? Yeah, I didn't test that, but in DCS 2.5 I feel it's much easier to spot ground units than planes in the sky anyway... EDIT: The famous black dots are for planes, I haven't seen black dots for ground units...
-
Sorry, I meant Gamma value. It's posisble to see the dot in the default value, but I found that lowering it (I had it on 1.8 ) makes the dot more visible against the sky.

Yeah, but you have to be in the "Advanced" mode of reply, which has the Youtube icon. Paste the youtube link, mark it with left mouse button and then click on the Youtube icon. About the Ka-50 weapons, is there any that can destroy Command Center? I have tested all, except bombs, and had no success...
-
Wow, thank you for that! And how did you find that page??

+1 This is showing to be very important. I don't have a cutting edge computer, but I can run DCS 2.5 with pretty good frame rates until I fire a vikhr missile, for example. Its smoke trail being rendered twice (both on my view and on the skhval screen at the same time) brings the frame-rate to a crawl. For rocket salvos, even without the skhval, it gets abruptly and extremely slow. An option to lower quality of effects would make DCS so much more playable on medium to low and even high end computers, as I can see it also happens in many youtube videos...

Rest in peace, Gospadin...
-
It's just a limitation that every 3d engine that exists has to deal with... The farther the view distance limit is set, the more processing power is required... DCS is no different... @gospadin & Weta43: Bad, bad boys! You should not delude the poor man into thinking that this is the wonder of DCS dynamic weather instead!!

'Simple' 2.5 Setup Guide.. Starting point to improve your FPS+
PeaceSells replied to Snacko's topic in Game Performance Bugs
^^ Probably should have done that. Not used yet to this new Windows method of deleting without asking for confirmation, so I had the impression it deleted from the "User" folder permanently, like it does with files over LAN. Yes, I'm an idiot. -

Yeah, but I deleted it all, even regreted later not keeping my controls configurations. What I didn't do is delete the shaders and fxo folders after the 2 patches that came after 2.5... -
^^ Pixel is not gone in 2.5... turn off FXAA, lower Gamma value and you will see it.

'Simple' 2.5 Setup Guide.. Starting point to improve your FPS+
PeaceSells replied to Snacko's topic in Game Performance Bugs
That's what I tend to believe, but I don't have the patience to do tests anymore. Currently I have a clean DCS 2.5 install, from the website installer, not the updated version from 1.5. Before that, I had the updated version and did delete these two folders more than once. The fps is the same I have now. -
'Simple' 2.5 Setup Guide.. Starting point to improve your FPS+

There's no doubt the Nvidia FXAA works. I've tested it many times in my system and it's visual effect in unmistakable, affecting even the menus. But the regular Nvidia's anti-aliasing I'm not so sure (I'm not referring to MFAA, mind you). If I force it via "override app setting", it doesn't work, has 0 effect in the image, that's 100% tested and confirmed. Where it gets weird is when it comes to the "enhance app setting" option: With all the anti-aliasing turned completely off, both in-game and in Nvidia's panel (no "enahance" option, no nothing), frame-rate is high. Then I just set MSAA to 2x in DCS options and play without restarting the game, frame-rate decreases A LOT. If I close DCS, set Nvidia to "enhance app setting", re-open DCS and play, frame-rate increases considerably. The thing is, if I do the close and re-open DCS, but without turning on Nvidia's "enhance app setting", frame-rate increases exactly like before. See the problem? -
^^ No option to enable, but you won't see it depending on your graphic settings. Also, it's much easier to see against the sky than against the ground (usually impossible). I can see it very clearly in 2.5 with deferred shading on, MSAA set to off or 2x, Gamma set to 1.8 or 1.6... Don't know how visible it is at other MSAA settings, but I know it is almost invisible if you use Nvidia's FXAA. And I think it's harder to see at higher Gamma settings, but I'm not sure.

Ok, this is the frame-rate I get with only in-game MSAA 2x, when I restart DCS. If I change MSAA back to OFF and play without restart, I get frame-rate around 34 again. Is the observed gain in performance due to the "enhanced app setting" just a DCS glitch? -

Took screenshots instead, it should make no difference since it's not post-processing like FXAA... And with cell phone it's almost impossible to get 2 pics with exact same angle, brightness, etc... First pic is only in-game MSAA 2x, second pic is in-game MSAA 2x plus Nvidia panel AA 2x "enhance app setting". Note the frame-rate difference... Though I'm noticing some inconsistencies in frame-rate when I change graphic options in DCS. Not 100% reproducible, need more testing... -

Yep, best way for good frame-rate, pretty looks and, at the same time, good ability to spot black dots is MSAA 2X in-gmae plus Nvidia panel AA 2X "enhance app setting". If you use only MSAA 2X in-game, frame-rate is MUCH lower, have no idea why, but that's how it goes. My card has no MFAA, so I can't comment on MFAA... -
Cool testing! How about a test where you drive the driveable aircraft (MiG-29, Su-27, F-15, etc.), because the flight model for players is different than the one for AI?
