  1. Following on from the last post, I thought "maybe it just runs at the speed of the slowest card", so I ditched the left and right screens again and just ran centre/ABRIS, but this time both screens on the 8800. Guess what... 48 FPS on low. So it really does only seem to be an issue when both cards are in use. Wtf?
  2. OS is Vista 32, sorry bout that. Updated in OP. I removed the offending sound card altogether. OK so benchmarks showed up some very interesting results. All tested in single player instant action using FRAPS. Running just the main screen and the ABRIS (no left/right), both screens on the 9800 card, I got 50FPS on low settings and 37 FPS on high settings. Running just the main screen and the ABRIS (no left/right), with the main screen on the 9800 and the ABRIS on the 8800, I got 25FPS on low settings and 20 FPS on high settings! So basically it works twice as well putting both screens on one card as it does putting one screen on each card. That doesn't make sense at all. I'd expect increased FPS as each GPU has only one screen to deal with. Putting left and centre on the 9800 and right and ABRIS on the 8800 gives me 12 FPS low settings or 10FPS high settings. Any ideas? It looks like some sort of inefficiency communicating with two GPUs?
  3. Hi folks, Tonight I finished mounting my extra screens, installing my extra video card and tweaking the BS config files to give me this (click for larger): Now it is truly awesome in every way except one: it runs at 10FPS. This, with your help, I hope to fix. So my specs are: - Q6600 quad core 2.4GHz OC to 2.88 GHz, using all 4 cores via the dcsbsaffinitytool GUI tool - Gigabyte P35-DS4 mobo - 2GB G.Skill DDR2 PC8500 - 1x Gigabyte 9800 GTX+ 1GB running the left and centre screens - 1x MSI 8800 Ultra 768MB running right and ABRIS screens - 2x WD Raptor 10k RPM drives in RAID 0 - Vista 32 - Onboard sound * * Note that my X-Fi PCIe soundcard stopped working when I added the second GPU today. I don't know if that is related, but I am now using onboard sound (with the unrecognised soundcard still in the slot). Main screens run at 1280x768, the ABRIS runs at 1024x768 (non-fullscreen). This is pretty much non-negotiable, as messing with the resolutions causes problems with being able to see the multiplayer menu buttons. This rig was pulling 13k+ in 3dmark06 before I added the 9800GTX+ and it ran BS with just the centre screen and ABRIS really well. So I dropped the graphic details down from high, to now medium with 0 water. No difference to FPS. Any ideas? All comments appreciated. Cheers rup
  4. It doesn't have to be extra! Take it from the grocery budget, the kids' college fund, whatever, just buy it :) Glad you're enjoying it.
  5. So could I ask how the real pilots practice autos in the shark, if setting the throttles to idle is not a reliable way to get 0 torque to the masts? I'm assuming they don't just pull the fuel cocks and practice the hard way! Or does the checklist look like this: AUTOROTATION - One engine out --- dump stores --- fly away - Two engines out --- Eject ;)
  6. Sounds to me like disk access, or a program running in the background. As above, do a good defrag and kill antivirus/defraggers etc before flying. As an extreme solution, you can't beat twin WD Raptors in RAID 0! I never get any disk access issues anymore ;)
  7. On the radio sound effects (which were great) you could try setting up a cheap walkie talkie next to your PC mic, then speaking your lines into the other walkie talkie. Will give you the slightly garbled voice and the "psssshhht".
  8. *SPOILER ALERT* Thanks for the mission, I really enjoyed it and am still trying to see what I need to do to get some sort of mission success rather than "the element of surprise is lost, rtb" :) I'm not sure of the ethics of using apartment blocks as cover, but it works for me! Are the MLRS near WP2 really firing north? It seems so. It made me wonder if the bad guys had snuck some troops forward. I really like the regimental phase line concept - it helps suspend the belief that there's nothing set up outside the lines :D Can't wait for the next one.
  9. I'm sure that's a useful post, but for the life of me I have no idea what it says.
  10. It happens. 99% of the world's population are decent people. Most of the rest are in Hyperlobby.
  11. Support the high fidelity sim market and buy it anyway. Or one day we'll all be playing Awesome Chopper Combat Extreme on PS4 with our joypads because there's no alternative.
  12. ... unless of course you are using multi monitors in vista.
  13. That's the NDAC airfield diagram. It could be a shift in magnetic variation that has caused the difference - if the runway numbers haven't been repainted and the mag var has shifted over time (as it does). But it could also be a bug.
  14. I also make a point of cycling my AP switches before I take off. I don't know why, but it seems to make a difference to the autohover. The process I use is: (before takeoff) - cycle all AP switches (when hovering) - check route mode off - manually hover and trim - engage autohover - check overhead hover lamp on - check AP lights, ensure all on - when all remaining lateral movement stops, trim
  15. I've got mine mapped to the left toebrake axis on my CH Pedals and it works nicely. I actually have it reversed so I have to press the toebrake to release the brakes - so if I'm sitting with my feet off the pedals, the brake's on (essentially a park brake). Only thing is I have to remember to hold the toebrake down when landing!
  16. I partially mitigated it by dropping my main screen resolution to 1280x768, the same vertical res as my secondary screen. At least now I can join MP missions, even if I don't know what the server's called because all that is off the left hand side of the screen! I would say this is definitely a bug, I can't see why it couldn't work the same as the single player menu. Any indication from DCS if this is a fix commit for the next patch?
  17. Thanks for the reply. I posted here to specifically report it as a bug. I'm aware that it's been raised many times at the bottom of twenty-page threads in the general discussion forum, but that is not the same thing. If it has been reported specifically before as a bug in the bug reporting forum, then I apologise for the repost and will work further on my search-fu.
  18. Hi, I have set up multimonitors according to the guides on the forum and everything works fine, including the single player menu, which appears on my main display. However the multiplayer menu is stretched across the entire virtual display (including the "phantom monitor"), resulting in my inability to host, refresh, join or browse multiplayer sessions due to inability to view or mouse to the bottom left or bottom right of the menus where the buttons are. I believe this is a bug as the single player menu works fine. Unless there is a config setting to force the multiplayer menu to the main display only, can this please be patched? Essentially if I want to play multiplayer, I can only use one screen which sucks ass as I've built an ABRIS button panel specially for my cockpit. My config is in the vista section here: http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors More pics here: http://pitblog.radsy.com Cheers
  19. We have summarised this thread on our wiki here http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors with some examples. Hope this helps.
  20. @ FADM_Stern_GNSF and quotemeas pwned
  21. awesome, thank you
  22. this may be a stupid question, but did you buy the russian version or the english version?
  23. Remember too that the current AP stored heading is shown on the HSI. When you retrim, you'll see it flip round to the current heading.
  24. 1. add a second video card 2. replace your card with a 4-head card, e.g. the Sapphire 4850 X2 3. use a Matrox triplehead2go
  25. pic of my setup. Not benchmarked yet, but am expecting to see a drop with the ABRIS screen. and the new ABRIS button bar, awaiting wiring
