  1. To get the most from high fidelity sims you need stick, throttle, rudder control and head tracking. You can do all that on a budget or go high end on a Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Pro Combat pedals and a TrackIR 5. All depends on your wallet. If you get into it you can build a cheap cockpit with the Akers-Barnes design and start adding multimonitors with SoftTH and Helios. We're all eagerly keeping our eyes on Oculus as well, as that has the potential to take simming to a new level. After that... you're into enthusiast territory and beyond help :)
  2. You'll need to modify your monitorsetup.lua and options.lua files. There are a load of threads in the forum for this, just search on those terms. You don't need Helios for what you want to do, but you will get value out of Easy Monitor Configurator and SoftTH (the latter will allow you to run fullscreen rather than windowed for performance). Using EMC with the steam version of DCSW requires a simple registry hack, again just search for that.
  3. Helios is open source now, and anyone with the appropriate skills can fork it and add Huey gauges.
  4. Thanks a lot for this LiveBait. One thing I've found now with two different profiles, including yours, is that switching the AC power to AC PHASE causes a session restart. Does that happen to anyone else? Cheers
  5. This is a nitpick and I almost feel bad raising it, but the 171 Sqn texture has "AIR FORCE" down the tail boom when it should have "ARMY". The 1 Avn Regt shoulder patches and Auscam zoombags are a nice touch, but 1 Avn Regt is an Army unit, not RAAF, and Army owned the Hueys from 1987 until they were retired in (I think) 2004. Thanks :)
  6. deleted, turns out I was doing it wrong. Hi Bear!
  7. same here. reinstall, directx reinstall, directx sdk reinstall, trackir reinstall, nothing fixes it. DCS is unplayable for me.
  8. With SoftTH, cockpit MFCDs enabled and a change to a "line" rather than a "T" configuration of screens (saving me 3Mpx) I'm getting a solid 25-30FPS in instant action. Will probably drop a little when I adjust for bezels, but overall I'm pretty happy. Considering this is on a rig that's a couple of years old (Core 2 Duo 4.0GHz, 6GB RAM, GTX570) and pushing 7.3Mpx, it's hard to complain!
  9. Thanks mate, absorbing it now Mine too, I just wanted a stable starting point to optimise from.
  10. Old school :) No, I mean the VRS SuperBug and eventually DCS: SuperBug
  11. Lovely work Weld. I always chuckle at these "slow escalation" projects, I know that drug all too well :)
  12. Thanks, I've been considering softTH. Now that I have a stable config, that's one of the things I'll try for better FPS. There's also probably a rig upgrade on the way...
  13. Thanks. I had to shift the middle screen up an inch and a half to accommodate the touchscreen, and I haven't yet got around to shifting the left/right screens up too. FPS is around 15-20 with no tuning, double that at altitude. I'll disable the cockpit MFCDs for some extra FPS and work on tuning.
  14. Time to leave the Shark behind, it's all Rhino and Hawg now (at least, until DCS: Apache), with delicious touchscreen glass replacing the old rust and steam. http://pitblog.radsy.com/2012/07/block-2/
  15. Hi boarder, nice job on the app. Just curious... does it support multiple ipads with different panel views?
  16. This would be perfect for someone like Flexman to bring his amazing AH64 to DCS.
  17. Awesome work everyone. Here's mine, about to get a refresh for A10: for the Black Shark WSC working
  18. The full review of the Oz Flight Sim Expo 2009 is now up at PitBuilderMag. Please let me know what you think! http://pitbuildermag.com/?p=254 Also I'm looking to collect footage from the event for a feature video. If you have any, I'd love to include it and can take any format including DV tape. Please get in touch. All contributions fully credited of course! Cheers
  19. Added some more photos of the expo to http://pitbuildermag.com/?p=232
  20. Another great day today. If you get to go to something like this, especially as a live exhibitor, I recommend it highly. That's the second time I've done it now, and running a mission live in front of a crowd is just awesome.
  21. Initial photos from today are here: http://pitbuildermag.com/?p=232 Full feature to follow.
  22. There's still enough time to make it :) I'll be putting together some video coverage of the expo for PitBuilderMag, so hopefully all those who aren't able to make it will still at least get to see what went on.
  23. Hi, hope the mods don't mind me doing this, but it's directly related to DCS and flight simming in general. The VAAF is demonstrating DCS:Black Shark for 2 days this weekend (10-11 October) at the Oz Flight Sim Expo in Brisbane Australia. We'll have a bunch of Akers-Barnes cockpits set up including my own and will be running four formal demos, plus constant ad-hoc demos over the weekend. If you're in or close to Brisbane, come and say hi. There will be lots of flight sim vendors and gear for sale, so it's definitely worth the $10 admission. It only happens every 2 years! Also, my own pet project pitbuildermag.com is launching this weekend at the Expo. It's a weekly/fortnightly free online magazine dedicated to flight/racing/mech cockpit building. From 0100Z on Saturday, the first three interviews will be live on the site. Hope you enjoy them. Cheers, Rup
