  1. I think what you're looking for is in C:\Users\you\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\Config\View You'll be looking for CameraViewAngleLimits....... I think
  2. You can use them but I think you'll find them too sensitive(1) and they seem to have a tiny bit of lag between moving the wheel and the control moving(2). This causes an "overshoot" every time you use it as you invariably go too far. I ended up putting my trim (elevator and rudder) on the same hat switch. It takes a looong time to set the pitch for takeoff (1 notch down) from normal flight (about 2 up) but it's sensitive enough for much better speed control. Rotaries for things like prop pitch and gunsight range adjust (P51), slider for Spit brakes.
  3. Sort of... what's missing is the instant "seat of the pants" feedback you would get if you were actually sitting in a plane. Every correction we make is lagging far behind what the airplane is doing at the time because we're only reacting to visual feedback.
  4. Wouldn't a button (on/off) give you full brakes or none? My throttle has a slider axis and I use that for the brakes after trying and rejecting the other methods. I too found binding both brake pedals ended up giving only 50% braking. Compressed air is a fluid, just like hydraulic and generally works the same way.
  5. I read somewhere here about oleo struts not damping as they should, returning the "spring" back into the airframe making the landings squirrely. I've suggested to many to land without flaps. Your sink rate will be under 1000 fpm and touchdowns much smoother. Do your regular approach and when you flare you'll have a couple of seconds to get everything stable before you touch down. Smooth touchdowns don't impart any bounce back into the plane. I find that the sooner you get on the brakes the better, max brakes if it's going bad.
  6. It's focus is PvP but there are AI in the mix with a sophisticated system where (I think) an extra AI will spawn in to even the sides when a player joins. I've seen B-17 raids, messages of new ground targets, radar towers to take out.....I'm forgetting more. From what I've seen the RAF are a stand up bunch of guys as well.
  7. I recorded this for someone else who was having trouble shooting. Trying to demonstrate lead and lag pursuit to get a lesser deflection(better aspect) shot. Nose way ahead of the enemy to close the distance then nose slightly behind to tune angle off for a near zero deflection shot. By then you notice you can be very close. I prefer a convergence of 150 yards or even less but a locked thread told us all there will be no entertaining that foolish notion.
  8. You don't need a config file. Best to set the stick up as you go with what functions you use most often. If you don't have a head tracker you probably want to use the hat for your views. Elevator and rudder trim, prop pitch up/down(engine RPM), bomb/rocket pickle, Teamspeak transmit, zoom view in and out are popular choices. For the 51 you will need to be dropping and raising flaps regularly while turning with an enemy. To set the keys up I found a description for you
  9. I don't see a recent thread for the RAF662 server? Seems to be about the best thing going these days.....the level of the clouds are a bit hard on my machine though.
  10. I stopped using all the manufacturer software for all controllers about a decade ago and have had very few problems since. Bind the stuff in game and be done with it. If you need something extra use a 3rd party like Joytokey or similar.
  11. That is indeed the question Vinnie. Either way though thanks very much for posting it. It's made the Spit a pleasure to fly. If this is the Spit the rest of you have been flying it's no wonder we've had a difference of opinion on how this bird handles.
  12. Try looking at the keyboard settings in your Windows control panel. See if changing the "character repeat" delay and rate has any effect.
  13. While it may not have been common there's ample evidence it was done. Whether it's a historical point or not I think it is a highly desirable feature and ask that you reconsider it's importance to the user.
  14. I don't know if it's just the power of suggestion but I have to agree. Much of the "wandering nose" is toned right down. This makes gunnery and especially landing feel normal. I'm using a CH Fighterstick, X52 throttle and Saitek pedals.
  15. I said it and still stand by it. As to why it was released like that.... above my pay grade.
  16. When you think of the force that would be required to deflect this say 3ft by 5ft surface into the airstream it's madness to think you could do it at any real speed. I recall reading a statement from a Flying Tiger in that the limiting factor in how fast their P-40 could dive was how hard you could stand on the rudder pedal and still aim at a bomber. Similarly, if you could get any large yaw the vertical fin should bring it right back and keep it there instead of the wallowing wandering you get in the Spit.
  17. The X52 is not a bad setup but for the (sliding cone) stick itself, the Warthog sphere gimbal is not a good design and not much of an improvement, it will always have friction problems. Yes it has plenty of buttons, some already pre-programmed (programming buttons is too hard?) Keep your X52 throttle and stick to use as your throttle (you'll have all the buttons on both to use), plug in a good joystick like ones suggested above or a CH Fighterstick if you need a solid stick for less $ and it will work well for you. Unlike the WH you won't have to take it apart every few months to fix the constant sticktion problems. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=189425&highlight=sticktion
  18. Already a thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=187798
  19. You should have waited a bit longer to play your trump card (as probably the only one here who has actually flown in one). What say you then? Any near wingtip dragging? Any near ground loops? We've all read plenty on the Spit. I've never heard any wartime spit pilot say it was hard to land or difficult to handle on the ground. On the contrary, everything I've ever seen said the opposite. As easy as it might get it's still always going to be a 2,000 hp taildragger and will always need to be handled with respect. Besides, this isn't the place for an in depth talk about it's handling, that is well covered. Just want to help this guy learn to land this thing in steps, easier to harder.
  20. At first it's a good idea to land without flaps. This gives you a much lower sink rate, your touchdown angle will be shallow(er), you'll have less bounce induced wandering, but most important - you'll spend much more time at that "hanging in ground effect" phase that you need to get the plane straight and stable just before touchdown. Yes - preload the brakes a bit. The brakes on the Spit are slaved to the rudder(watch the indicator while you use brakes and move rudder) so some brake pressure(3lbs?) = much better rudder effectiveness. Come in about 100 or 110, start your flare and just hold it a couple of feet off the runway. Keep it straight with rudder. As you slow you'll need more and more back stick to hold off. Keep it straight with rudder. At some point it will touch down with your stick full(or almost full) back. Keep it straight with rudder. Keep the stick full back and get on the brakes. Keep it straight with rudder. I usually have to let off the brakes at the end to keep the tail down. These are all band-aids and patches to help with the flight model that isn't yet as it should be. This isn't (yet) the "flies without a vice", "obeys every command" Spit that your Grandpa flew in '44. Once you can make good landings with no flaps and some brake pre-load try landing with flaps, then try with reduced brake pressure.
  21. Yes. Do your approach as usual. Hold the plane off the runway at a foot or two until it stops flying.
  22. If you could just set the elevator trim and expect it to fly anywhere near the intended speed you wouldn't have to check the ASI all the time. All DCS planes that I've flown have the "hovercraft wallow" effect. Point the nose wherever you like and the airstream has little effect on the flight path. The right floodlight is better at illuminating the dashboard but hard to adjust precisely - RShift+N for brighter, RCtrl+N for dimmer.
  23. Yes and no. You only have 2 cannon on the Spit (although the Hispano is about the best there is) compared to 6 BMG in the Mustang so although in a side by side the cannon is about twice as effective as a .50, each cannon is not better than 3 x .50 cal. And while cannon are more effective on bombers that aren't that hard to hit you're throwing out about 1200 rpm (600x2) in the Spit while the Mustang is firing 4500 rpm (750 x 6) greatly increasing the hit probability on a maneuvering target when you only have time for a quick squirt at a time.
  24. Each round at 3000 fps and 750 grains should pass through everything on an airplane from back to front except the engine(maybe that too), each round causing damage in multiple areas. Couple that with it's ability to retain energy well past 400 yards this should be the most effective weapon on any of the WW2 aircraft.
  25. The Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback sounds like the stick you're looking for. There is no center, with FFB turned way down it's very light.
