DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
Zius replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I don't get this comment. We have B-17's and P-54's, as well as ground targets, so what more do you want? Yeah, but those things don't pay the bills. New modules do... -
Yeah, but what's sticking out of the butt of the guy on the front row, fourth from right??? :helpsmilie:

Very interesting comments! Perhaps it was due to the system where Germany just kept pilots at the front until they died instead of rotating them like the USA did. I do think they have a point. Aircraft is aircraft, all are approx. the same generation / type and the differences are not that big. But I wonder if they had the same attitude on the Eastern Front where the Soviets were (in the beginning) fielding clearly outdated / inferior planes, enabling the Germans to rack up those enormous kill numbers. Also, later in the war, when the quality of German pilots became pretty low, due to the experienced ones being killed, I think they should have changed their approach a bit. I think that for a rookie pilot it can be quite useful to know their aircraft's strengths and weaknesses compared to their enemy.

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)

Thanks! Really looking forward to it, especially the Me 262. Although I do really hope that they will have PFM / ASM because that's what sets DCS apart from everything else on the market. I can live with some systems being unavailable in EA, but I do hope PFM / ASM is the goal. -
Could be interesting as well although I think I'd prefer the F-106. I do wonder how much fun it would be from a gameplay perspective, but certainly an interesting aircraft to master. The one on the photo seems to be the T-37 training model. I do really like light attack aircraft though. The Albatros is probably my favourite DCS aircraft. On DCS f0rtunately we do have a Mod of the B-29 recently updated to work on dcs 2.5.5 .. I use it on some of my Mig-15 missions :) I try to keep DCS unmodded, but that does sound tempting.

FC3 but WW2 style? No, please, no... Already plenty of games have this approach. -
I'd like that F-106 (or is it a F-102?). But I think the A-37 would be a lot of fun as well. Not 100% sure that there is a P-80 in the photo, but it would be great to have that one in DCS. And I would REALLY like a B-29 as AI aircraft at least, to have a good opponent for the MiG-15. Incidentally, the B-52 in the background looks quite small. Interesting perspective in the photo!

I thought Merkel closed all of them down and replaced them with "green" brown coal plants... :music_whistling:

 But yeah, the state of the defence in most European countries is pretty sad... What I personally find interesting is that Russia, which has a GDP with a size between Spain and Italy, is still seems able to field more military power than the entire European "union" (or is that spelled onion?). Germany has more than twice the GDP of Russia, but is barely able to field a meaningful defence force. You can say what you want about Trump, but he's absolutely right with regards to spending levels of NATO countries.

I also mainly use a tablet (Samsung Tab A) which is pretty convenient. The only problem I can see is if you need to quickly turn to this-or-that page, then paper is easier...

Heh! I have those as well! But maybe I'll someday try to make the Hindenburg in 1/72:

I thought it was a pretty good read. Especially this part: If Pearl Harbor didn't happen, then just how much did the US want to join the war? I think they (at least the general public) were pretty reluctant. If a reluctant US would eventually be dragged into the war only to be confronted with big losses due to unrestricted submarine warfare, then maybe they would have enough of it pretty soon. Then again, I don't think that WW2 could have ended with a white peace between Axis and the USA. The consequences were too big. If the Axis would have won, it would have made Germany and Japan / East Asia the dominant economic blocks and not the USA.

Heh, I had the same idea... I prefer 1:72 though. 1:48 is pretty big, especially if you want to build ALL DCS aircraft eventually. For the Viggen, Tarangus has a new model out. Looks great but I still need to buy it. I do have the Heller version, but that one is not fantastic. The AJ variant is coming out later this year from Special Hobby who developed the kit together with Tarangus. Eduard has a MiG-15bis which I think is pretty decent. The also have an Albatros. You can have a look here: https://www.aviationmegastore.com/?switchlang=EN

Nice post Vanir!

[nerd mode] The Viggen's stick is wrong. :smartass: [/nerd mode] Otherwise, the combination of anime girls and realistic aircraft is weird. Nevertheless I'm intrigued enough to download the entire thing and watch it later.

DCS: MiG-25RBT Mod Announcement
Zius replied to cosmicdoubloon's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Unfortunately my Russian is not that great, but that is a great resource! (if you can read it :(:music_whistling:) As for this project, really looking forward to it! -
"Too bad" that they are going to lose in the finals though... Sorry, couldn't resist! And it's the women's world cup, so yes, it's girl's football if you like. :music_whistling: At least they don't need helmets to protect what's left of their brains... :P

Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!

Welcome to DCS! :music_whistling: This is probably that makes little sense to many but DCS is a sandbox sim where any scenario could take place if the mission / campaign creators wants that to take place. The limiting factors are the available assets and your imagination. It's a common question why there is no DCS: Vietnam war and why the more-or-less period assets are not the ones used in the Vietnam war, e.g. MiG-21bis instead of MiG-21F, or MiG-19P instead of the J-6. But developers choose either what they think is the most iconic version of an aircraft or the version for which documentation is available. Therefore we'll likely never have the suitable versions to accurately model a certain war. -
Or a Sabre / MiG-15. Which is not *that* far removed from late war prototypes. Especially the V-1 would be really interesting. The V-2 would be un-interceptable, except maybe during launching. Not sure if we have suitable SAM's in-game for ballistic missile interception. Or even suitable aerodynamic modelling for ballistic missiles.

One of my favourite things to do in DCS is down a formation of B-17's, with or without P-51 escort. At the moment, my favourite tool to do this, is the MiG-15. It's fast enough but not too fast, and only a few hits with that 37mm cannon are neccessary to disintegrate the target. Problems are that the MiG-15 is difficult to do deflection shooting with, due to low projectile velocity, and that the B-17 is quite well armed! I'm not yet sufficiently familiar with it, but maybe the MiG-19 will be even more effective than the MiG-15. Before you say "but that's not realistic" I would like to point out that: 1) In the Suez Crisis of 1956, Israel flew B-17's and Egypt MiG-15's and could have met. The MiG-19 was introduced in 1955. The B-17 was still being used by the CIA in 1962 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_COLDFEET The last country to have the B-17 in active duty was Brazil (until 1968 ) 2) Who cares anyway as long as you have fun? ;) So, what's your favourite B-17 destroyer?
-
No: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-produced_aircraft Top 10 contains: - Aircraft which are similar to the Cessna 172 - Aircraft which we already have - Some combat aircraft (Il-2 and Po-2) which are interesting in their own right but not an alternative to the Cessna 172 So the Cessna 172 is the logical choice.

Very sorry to hear about your husband, my thoughts and prayers will be with the both of you... :( Donating to a museum sounds like a beautiful option, I hadn't thought of that myself. If you decide to sell everything though, I would suggest the following: - Make a good and complete list of everything including: product name, manufacturer name, date of purchase, price of purchase etc. It may be - Take good photo's, ask for help if necessary. - Research or ask around for the present value of all items. Although I understand it will not be on the top of favourite things to do right now (to say the least), but it would be helpful if your husband could help you with the above as much as possible, as some things can be complicated to figure out, especially with older equipment. If you want to, you may also look into the possibilities and limitations of selling stuff abroad. Best wishes from the Netherlands.

Yes, smooth and gentle is the key here. If it's still too much, you can set a curve in the joystick setup screen.

Not that I disagree, but you can also fight the P-51 and the B-52 as contemporary aircraft. With some imagination you can fight B-17's as well, which is great fun in my opinion. If you like a challenge you can dogfight most cold war era fighters. The MiG-15 stayed in service for a very long time in some airforces....
