  2. Your all wrong, BAE have made it impossible for anyone but them to move the exhaust point, I am suprised no one saw it floating a ft off the runway when it landed...oh wait :D
  3. TrackIR (and the alternatives) is far more impressive in 6DOF, the ability to lean around or over items in your field of view is just extremely usefull and cool. The time I found it most usefull and "game changing" was in FSX where you look over the dashboard properly and see the runway in front of you. In BS is the thing you find yourself doing a lot (ala 6DOF) is ducking down to get a good view on the Shkval and looking out the door as you side slip onto the helipad.
  4. Wait a few weeks and you will be able to get a clone like version with more functionality and at a tenth of the price.
  5. The needles don't match the tanks, in other words, aft if is infact front etc. As far as I understand it anyway.
  6. Thats close to what I paid for my steering wheel for the Xbox/PC...don't think the missus will like me spending that again in a hurry.
  7. I can understand there behaviour if someone else is leaching off there tech to provide a "free" solution. I am not sure if this is what your referring too or not, but if it's the DLL your on about then they had every right to get mouthy. Also if freetrack users are using TiR software, again reason to get angry. In the end you have two choices: 1) A cheaper alternative that will require the purchase of certain items if you don't already own them. Possible cost circa £30. 2) A far more expensive option, but you can be confident of it "just working". That's not to say 3rd party alternatives won't, but you know yours will. It also puts minimal load on the CPU and everything is already made for you, no skills required. Approximate cost £100+.
  8. Hahahaha This happened to me yesterday and I was about to post about it (different mission) and now I saw this I am glad I didn't :D However that said one time I could say this was fuel related, the other time, not sure, I was about 20 minutes into the mission in a hover and puff, "elec on acum" and the ground fast approaching. Can you get fuel leaks from damage? I don't think I took any hits, but since they altered the sound engine I am not always aware of getting hit.
  9. The new ones are "di-cast metal" which if it's the same as my "di cast" toys of old is pretty cheap/easy to damage. And yes I am talking about the Saitek pedal, mine don't seem to have an indent...this is curious!
  10. That was a good documentary that, those guys off Top Gear (and this wasn't top gear btw) get to do some cool stuff. If you see it on BBC DVD it should be called "James May in Space" or something along those lines. It's worth a watch.
  11. Oh yeah good spot, didn't see it was fully programmable. I really don't know why the rest aren't, seems a bit daft. The older saitek pedals are plastic, but I wouldn't call them flimsy, I have had mine for about 2 years and no sign of wear. The issue with them, and this is only an issue if you want this feature, is there is no obvious centre point, in other words you have to "feel" the middle by how your legs are pointing opposed to it have a indent to drop into. I would imagine your looking at about a good few months before the new ones are released, they only have renders up at the moment.
  12. This thread got me thinking, I like the idea of accumulated wear. However what if we took this one step further. You have a pilot and you have a plane. This is YOUR plane. You start off with a brand new plane. Every kill you get you get a little decal on the side and your name is printed on it, plus you can stylise your plane a bit, for instance your own selection of artwork. Maybe even a "spray" type system like they have in Counter Strike where you can select from a pre-set of nose textures (for isntance) or upload your own PNG. Any damage you take is shown until it's fixed (even to a point where the ground crew refuse to let you fly until it's been fixed). You get accumulated wear that adds to to the chances of failure during flight, if you get a replacement new part this resets the wear for that part. If it's reconditioned it can start at like 5% or something. If you stress or severaly damage the aircraft it can be retired from service. If you crash and die you have to start again as a new pilot and a new aircraft, everything is reset. If you crash but eject safely you get a new/reconditioned aircraft. Your rank could maybe be a deciding factor on whether you get a new aircraft or reconditioned. Any reconditioned aircraft has it's parts randomised between new/reconditioned/current with associated wear levels. Texture wear would be nice, for instance your plane can become weathered and the buttons texture (for example) get shiny and points on the cockput that get worn and scratched from use do so. You could even have a slow build up of dirt. (this is all quite doable with two sets of textures and you fade between the two depending on the wear rate). Any new equipment is installed clean, any reconditioned equipment will be installed clean but possibly with shiny buttons. What I would also like is then the ability to take MY plane online. Now everyone can see my plane with my textures and know if I look after it or not. I can't see why any of this can't be done, and it not being overly complicated either. Ok taking it online might add a headache or two. But if ED model each component of the aircraft why can't it have a failure weight? The texture/wear thing is easy, it's just an alogorithim that runs before the texture is loaded "what percentage is each part weathered/worn, so I set the transparancy of the 'dirt layer' to x percent". On a side note, it would also be nice to have your profile viewable online ala Xbox style, so people could see a break down of your missions and how many planes you have broke :D Anyway, just an idea that came to me.
  13. http://www.saitek.com/ - Quite a nice site now actually. Back Lit Panel - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/bip.html New Rudders - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/compedals.html Fuel Mixture/Throttle etc - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/tpm.html Sadly the back lit panel and the fuel mixture are still FSX only.
  14. I want this, it's exactly what I have been after. However that link doesn't work, it appears it's a protected area of the forum, so where do I get it? That is possibly the greatest avatar ever.
  15. Or...you just buy TrackIR
  16. Boresight ranging? Go on...I am hooked, explain :).
  17. Actually quick question, sort of on topic, when the rockets/cannon aren't locked onto a target (via the shkval or the HMS) it is boresight mode isn't it? And in that case it is normal for the piper to be floating around as I fly as it's the predicted fall point for the rockets? Or am I not locking the boresight properly?
  18. Not bad, needs a bit of work here and there, but not a bad first attempt. Looking forward to the further eppisodes so we can get into the new material.
  19. They sell and have a deal with TM so I would imagine so.
  20. Thanks for that! I accidently wiped out my profile the other month and been having problems getting my eject key to work. Sometimes it does sometimes (more often than not) it doesn't. I just realised it used to look like this in my editor, I don't think it does now. Will fix that. Cheers.
  21. I don't think I have ever enabled that and I don't think I have ever had a vik miss...what is it for?
  22. 3) Just re-read your question, the shkval does follow the target when locked, do you mean the helecopter? If so, turn on "Turn to Target".
  23. Although PC games have been able to do resolutions that you would consider "HD" it's only recently that textures and effects have started to catch up. Also just to point out, now a days HD can refer to 720p 1080i and 1080p. Other standard resolutions are about, but they are what most people call "HD", with 1080p being "Full HD". It's mainly all marketing that though :). In the end resolution isn't everything (the main part of the HD definition), you have to feed that hi res image with a quality picture for it to actually look good. If you compare the KA-50 textures and model to one of the fodder jets in the mission editor you will see what I mean (the shark being the better model and textures).
  24. A few things, 1) Don't get what this has got to do with modman 2) It's Simulation.exe 3) Not a clue what your asking about the Shkval :D
