  3. Thanks for the responses. I am not sure if I was 1000M's AGL that's for sure, I didn't look, but I could have been. Regardless though I was firing them like I normally fire rockets, into the ground. I was under the impression they were like the smoke rockets and basically made little (but bright) fires. They certainly wouldn't have got 17 seconds flight time. Is there a way to shorten the fuse? And where do I find this readme? I was wondering where something like that would be. I will give your advice next weekend and see what happens. Does anyone know of any screen shots around with these flares in operation?
  4. Afternoon all, I have recently started getting back in BS after about an 9 month hiatus (I got lazy and it was too much effort plugging everything in, setting it up etc). I have installed the latest patch and over the last few weekends I have been testing out the new kit, setting up my joysticks again (new profiles) and learning to land/fly/shoot again. However I got a bit lost on the weekend. How are you supposed to use the illumination rockets? I loaded out fully with them (I was going to do some night shooting with the gun) and proceeded to my target zone at the dead of night. I got roughly in position (using the NV goggles) and let rip a salvo of illumination rockets to see them (or not as the case me be) disapear in the night never to be seen again. Puzzled by the lack of anything happening I let off a few emergency and signaling flares all of which worked (i.e. I could see them) and then flew a little lower and over land this time. I was originally fireing the rockets over a bay and assumed maybe they plopped into the sea and not hit the ground. So over land this time I let off another salvo...nadda. So lower I go and skimming the tree tops (more by crap flying than judgment) I off my last salvo and again nothing. I see the rockets leave the tubes and I can make out some sort of smoke trail but they just disapear without "illuminating" anything. Am I using them correctly? If not how am I supposed to use them, and if I am, what exactly are they supposed to do? When I got back to the edit screen I checked I had attatched illumination and NOT smoke, and I had. Any ideas?

  6. Well I had a weekend of playing and I must say you did do a fine job. Is this getting included in the forthcomming patch? It's surely up to the standard ED expect and is far superior to the current stock ones. I take it your textures work across all season etc and don't have the pitfalls that the current BS skins do?
  7. Feature request for patch Is it possible to have some sort of rewind function built into the track replay? A scrub bar would be nice, but failing that (and even if a scrub bar was implimented it would be nice to have this anyway) a key to rewind like you can fast forward etc. I hope I am not the only one who thinks this would be a good idea...maybe even Glowing might find it usefull! :D
  8. Oh bum! I just fired up BS and realised I had removed your mod (due to an unrelated problem) so I fired up ModMan and then had this nagging feeling...like an idiot I haven't even been running the damn final version! I had it downloaded but never installed it. You being you though I thought I would re-download it off here in case you had made a few thousand updates since I originally got it. Anyway it's nearly finished downloading now, so fly time here we come!

  10. Subs have prangs all the time, it was relativly commen in the cold war, especially during "crazy ivans". Don't forget you can't just look out the window of one of these things, it's all passive sonar, and during normal operating procedures when in the operating area the screws are going quite slow and the boat is relativly quite, if you don't actually know something is there chances are you can hit it, just like the sea bed...that happens as well. Apparantly this is the French's ONLY attack sub...you think they would be extra careful with it. It also serves them right for not agreeing to share positioning information like the Brits and the Yanks do.

  12. There are 3+1 views: View 1) Cockpit View 2) Full Screen with HUD (sort of cockpit view, think of a bumper cam on a race game) View 3) View from behind aircraft, or chase cam. View 4) Assistance off mode is an outside view that would best be described as a replay view but live. ERS (which basically tells you were to fly) can be toggled on an off in any view as far as I know. I can't say I have tried to use it in View 4, but it definatly works in the cockpit. I also think you guys are comming at it from the wrong POV, it's an arcade game, treat it as so and you will enjoy yourself as it is in fact a good arcade flyer. The assistence mode off is fun to see cool stuff and is usefull under a few circumstances. I do find myself switching between cockpit view and assistance off, but a lot of my combat is done in the cockpit. The reason your friend may have said ERS goes to an outside view may be down to his settings. I have mine in "expert" mode...whatever the hell that is!
  13. Well I downloaded the demo a few days ago and I keep dropping in and out. The game was never going to be sim, I never had any thoughts it ever would be. The 360 is a console and the majority of it's audience just don't want to play a sim. So with this in mind I fired up the demo without any pre-conseptions as to what it was trying to be. And for what it is, it's good! As I was flying along I looked into the corner of the screen and saw the missle count...over 100...I was disheartend but carried on playing. After the second (and last demo) level I had a big smile on my face. I had fired over 75 missles and not even cared that it wasn't realistic. It's a visual and sound treat and to be honest a welcome break from BS. For me BS is the kind of "game" that you need to plan to play, you need to know you have enough time on your hands to get in and enjoy it, put on your track ir, make sure your joystick profile is loaded etc. With HAWX you just plonk down in front of the TV in your pants, a cup of tea and a long straw and let your brain turn to mush. Oh and to the previous poster regarding Tom Clancy being careful about what he puts his name too, if I remember correctly UBI now owns Redstorm and the Clancy name as far as games go.

I was just reading this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7881031.stm?lss And I was wondering what kind of future plans ED has to bring the modern sensors of the battle field (like the above plane, the Nimrod, AWACS, UAVs etc) and have this information being able to be fed to the pilot. So it's effectivly a dynamic update of information as the AI does things, maybe depending on triggers etc. I know LOMAC had the awacs, but I am thinking more of being able to employ the other systems like mentioned above? So you could have a drone flying around or some other sensor platform that could dynamically update you on the developing scenario.

  22. If I am updating the speech in a mission with new sound files and subtitles do I need to re-pack the entire mission or is there a simpler/less mod size friendly way?
