Today I joined an Australian server and flew around in a KA-50, I currently had no mic so was writing messages. I wish to thank a guy for being so helpful and giving me some direction to recent enemy sightings, I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your call sign. I have a few questions that couldn’t really be answered fully by the message system within the game. 1) once in the cockpit I was unable to activate the drop down menu for available missions. I was using the \ key but nothing. Is this menu available in all servers? If it’s not, how do you know where to go? 2) the guy that was helping said to join their discord and he would talk me through everything. How do you open another window, whilst your sitting in the cockpit? Obviously this needs to be done to enter the discord address. 3) once I was airborne, I was unable to access the drop down radio menu when I pressed the programmed button on my joystick. Is this deactivated ? it was enjoyable to be flying around, not knowing what lay beyond the next hill or in the next valley. It would be more enjoyable if I had a mic, which has now been ordered lol.

If you look at the cobra in Vietnam, the crew would rearm the helicopters at FARPS, but rockets only. The mini guns were too time consuming. I do personally think that reaming times should take a little longer in DCS, and repair times extended too.

What to do in Mission 5?
Rabies replied to rge75's topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
Hey mate, it wasn’t a complaint. I love the complexity of flying helicopters at altitude, being damaged just adds to the challenges and stresses LOL. -
What to do in Mission 5?

I finally completed this mission today, but not with missiles. It was guns only, which resulted in the Hind wingman crippling my helicopter. I only received 80% mission rating as I had lost an engine and was unable to climb out of the valley to escort the Mi-8’s, even after jettisoning pods and missiles. -
What to do in Mission 5?

I’m loving this mission, but for the life of me, I’m unable to lock onto the hinds to fire the vikhr. I’ve managed to shoot down one hind with guns, but I always get shot down by the second one. How do you guys lock onto the hinds? I’m using my optical helmet site to help locate them to no avail. -
For some advanced training, check out this series of videos, the author is a guru on the KA-50.

I was hoping if somebody would be interested in designing a skin for the P-47, based on the A-1 Sky Raider of the Vietnam era. I think the P-47 would make a great looking “Sandy” for missions of that era. Even just undertaking FAC missions would be fun. it’s just a thought.

I’m putting together a number of Ash & Trash missions for a Huey. I currently have it loaded with 1000kg of internal cargo, 750kg goes to point B and the remainder (250kg) goes to point A. Now, I have that set up with simple trigger zones that’s straight forward. The key lies with the person flying the mission to be able to plan ahead, as he/she is flying in mountainous terrain, hot, heavy, humid and high. Points A & B are at altitude and so the pilot needs to drop off at point B first, as this would mean the majority of the cargo is removed allowing a successful take off. Landing at point B the trigger resets internal cargo at 250kg, and upon landing at point A with 250kg of cargo, the trigger zone resets the cargo to 0kg. This is where I need help. If the pilot plans their mission wrong and flies to point A first, I want a trigger to set the internal cargo minus 250kg. This would leave them on a mountain side with an internal load of 750kg and insufficient power to become airborne. Basically they would have to sit and burn fuel until they can take off. How can I set this up to occur? Bearing in mind I already have a trigger at point A. I hope this makes sense. I have no clue about scripting. Thanks

The deployment of the Hind was a completely different tactic to that of the Cobra. Russian tactics back then was to overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers of equipment, regardless of losses. Manufacturing was about quantity rather than quality. When the Hind fist appeared, NATO in Europe crapped itself, they had nothing to combat such an aircraft on a modern day 1970-1980’s battlefield. The Hinds tactic was to fly at speed firing mass amount of rockets while Russian tanks and infantry armour raced below. While patrolling the East German border, by air, we would be on occasions shadowed by a Hind. Our official defence at the time was to hide if you weren’t spotted, or, to fire all of our TOW missiles in the general direction if he had seen us( immediately wire cutting each one) and hopefully this on coming barrage would give us time to escape. The two main things we feared most at the time of the Cold War apart from the sheer number of tanks, was the Hind and Russia’s battlefield air defence regiments.

I tried the mission again today, still no joy. I get all the radio communications between the aircraft but no joy with the ARK-UD and channel 5. I’ve flown every part of that search area in the off chance the trigger zone maybe small, and made a conscious effort at flying at 3000ft 150kmph.

Would it be possible to have some larger calibre weapons that can be available for infantry/Insurgents, such as .50 cal. It would make helicopter mission designs a lot more challenging. Currently you have to deploy an armoured vehicle or ZSU emplacement etc. Secondly, again for the ME. The ability to have an option to load helicopters with internal cargo without requiring the knowledge of scripting etc. I know there is a way to “trick” the ME into moving cargo however, the weight of that said cargo is not implemented into the flight parameters/dynamics of the aircraft.

It’s absolutely ridiculous how the AI functions. I’ve built this simple mission and the AI are attacking infantry and ACP with M60 door gunners. Rockets and mini guns are not being utilised, I tell a lie, occasionally a rocket maybe fired but that’s probably because the door gunners ran out of ammo. https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/dcs-world-topics/missions-and-campaigns/104815-uh-1h-missions/page7#post7131170

Name: Prairie Fire Author: Rabies Mission type: LRRP Extraction Controllable: UH-1H Quick Summary: A 6-man LRRP team has been compromised, they are currently bugging out under contact to a steep pinnacle clearing in the A Shau valley. Test your flying skills of the huey, concentrate on your approach and time your loss of translational lift to skids on the ground. Departure with the six man team is possible. Use the geographical location to your advantage and milk that collective! Download Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/868iqlswel...scue1.miz?dl=0 Please note, for the life of me, I have had issues with the AI not attacking the enemy and when they do, they tend to use door gunners rather than rockets or miniguns. If any of you have any suggestions, I appreciate hearing them, thanks. Mission Tweaked 10th Nov 2020

Thanks for the responses. It’s a sorry state of affairs that today’s combat flight simulator doesn’t have functioning AI wingman. When you think back to the beginnings of flight simulators, 30+ years ago, wingman functioned.

I’ve only just started to fly the KA-50 in the last couple of weeks, I’ve had it for a few years but I just loved flying the Mi-8. I’ve started the Deployment campaign and I have noticed that the AI wingman seem to be a tad suicidal. Upon reaching the objective, I have commanded them to commence with the “mission and rejoin”. To my amazement, I watch them trundle off over the objective, watch all the pretty tracers and white missile streaks, then the “ I’m hit” and the black streak heading towards the ground. So I changed tactic. I would lock onto a specific target and instruct my wingman to engage. Once again, he goes charging off into the distance, gets lit up like a Christmas tree and disappears in a black streak of flame and smoke. Are my tactics wrong, or is currently the KA-50 AI martyrdom?

Thanks for the heads up with the altimeter. I had played with it but I didn’t realise it had to be cranked so much before the dial readings appeared. Anyway, I flew the mission, after taking exceptional note of the designated search area in the briefing, and I was still unable to locate the signal. I’ve given up on it for now and moved over to the KA-50. I’ve had it for a couple of years and not flown it.
-
I've flown this mission countless times and I'm unable to find the signal. I've even had the main radio switched to the ARC and volume turned to max as in the briefing it says "listen". I have no idea what height I am, as I'm unable to calibrate my altimeter as the mmHg reading is blank. I've flown around the designated area to the point I'm flying on my service fuel tank. The 3000m altitude is that above sea level or radar? My radio is tuned in and I'm receiving messages at the way points etc. with the last one stating to commence patrol.

Should we expect wednesday release?

does that answer your query? -
I just completed the campaign last week. Can’t wait for your sequel, I loved the technical challenges and surprises, talk about double whammy :megalol:

REALLY cold start procedure? Mi-8 not starting in winter
Rabies replied to tovivan's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
After starting the APU, have you tried turning on the engine de-icer for both engines? On the de-iced panel above the commanders head, Flip the switch from auto to manual then flip the switches for each engine to on and wait for all three green lights to come on.. -
Unfortunately it’s non of the above. Today, I was flying one of the missions in the new One Mi8 campaign, based in artic conditions. The aircraft was heavy, all the Engine anti icing equipment was turned manually etc. so the engines were working hard, I only engage the AP (middle button), I never use the others unless it’s a long flight. I had to pull a lot of pitch but no right pedal, however, as speed is increasing, I’m having to apply left pedal ( which is normal) to prevent the aircraft from slipping. I’m at a loss as to why, in all of the other helicopter modules, pedal torque input is required during take off, hovering etc.

I purchased the super carrier package and Started again, I’ve had no issues since.
