  1. Man this horse has been beaten to a pulp...Like others have said, this has been around since 2.2. It's clearly not a quick fix, however it is aggravating to see features like rain drops on the canopy, and vapor trails being worked on while basic cockpit lighting is non functional. Different teams working on different things? perhaps. Maybe an update on this issue from those working on it would help... Like maybe a "hey guys this is a coding nightmare, but we're hard working on it" type of deal. It's hard.. I really try to have patience because I know people are hard at work trying to better this incredibly detailed sim, but for the first time I'm starting to wonder what the deal is... End of the day... hope for a fix sooner rather than later.
  2. It's been like this for awhile now. Something to do with deferred shading. I know other modules have had lighting problems as well, especially at night, so it might be part of a broader issue, thus why it isn't a quick fix. I feel your frustration though...I haven't flown the shark since this has been an issue which is painful with 2.5 now out. They do know this is an issue. I've seen multiple other threads on this, so really there's nothing more to say. Just hope for a fix sooner rather than later.
  3. First thought.. May 31st...Thursday release??? no that's not right... closest Friday is.... May 25th...6 whole days left to waste! Nope...it's settled... May 32nd...
  4. I really enjoy the NTTR map and the "flag" events that can be hosted there, however, being limited to "flag" events has hindered this map imo. Other maps can have believable war scenarios, whereas NTTR must stay in the realm of training. At least if it wants to be believable. More content may fill up some servers, but I just don't see it breaking out of its niche training category. Great map though! It just is what it is.
  5. Yes, Wags did say they hope to extend the map to the north and west. He also said the ultimate goal (way way off) is to have a connected "world" map. The kicker in all of this however is the fact that current hardware can't handle much bigger than what we are getting now. I forget the size mentioned, but in the most recent hornet live stream Wags made a point to say any bigger and performance would suffer. I think it was 350km by 350km... or 250km... Idk, point is we're a ways off from a big connected map.
  6. This is pretty awesome news. I wonder if ripping the basket and/or hose off the tanker will ever be implemented. Haha I can already see the basket tangled on my probe and the hose whipping all over the place. regardless, whatever improvements do come of this are much appreciated!
  7. It's a skin I'm working on right now. Was hoping to get the new paint kit that has been discussed before releasing anymore harrier skins, however, idk when that will be so I will most likely be releasing what I have here soon. EDIT: I have uploaded the "Chief" skin. Awaiting approval.
  8. Some WIP
  9. Gotcha! I should have been more clear. I asked for the real life answer in hopes that it would be applicable to the game.
  10. Right, simple... so your telling me that the in-game fix to this is simply move until the thing you want to see is in the non-nvg part of the screen. I'm fine with this answer, just wanted to make sure before I started rubber necking around to see in the cockpit
  11. So, how would one go about reading the cockpit instruments with NVGs on? I understand all the comments about the focus, and it all makes perfect sense to have it focused to infinity rather than two feet in front of you. Just pop them off when you need to see something, or...? Really just curious how the blur would be handled in real life.
  12. May have something to do with the current damage modelling not being able to accurately represent the 87's damage to soft targets. At this point however, your right, 87's are a waste to bring along. 97's on the other hand are damn near a cheat code... though they do help when there's more targets than you have munitions for. :smilewink:
  13. (I notice my story mimics quite a few others) Wouldn't be playing DCS had they not offered the "core" for free. At the time the way single planes were priced made no sense to me, but I could try it for free so I gave it a shot. Pretty cool, so I got the A-10C. Rationalized it as "normal game" purchase since it was $60, but $0 for the core. After diving into the A-10C I realized why the pricing was set up the way it was... these were full fidelity simulations, not arcade eye candy... and well, lets just say now days ED has a lot of my $$$. Point is many people don't know what DCS is or how it develops over time so they just stay away. A free download to get a taste has proven to pull in some of those people. They are getting paid for it, it's just by way of other modules. Modules that would have never been bought had the core not been free.
  14. The last thing I saw regarding this, and I believe it was from Wags, was that the Hornet will be coming after 2.5, which is coming in late January. How much after? I don't know. It will eventually come though my friend, hang in there.
  15. Your right...im just gonna remove myself from this conversation now hahaha! Did the updater for release version and what do ya know... update!
  16. My mistake, the AV-8B is the only reason I downloaded the Beta, thus why I'm just now seeing the full picture of how updates jump around the versions. With the release version and 2.X downloaded, I'm use to some applying to one but not the other, but this is the first time I've personally dealt with a particular modules updates hitting different versions at different times. My comment was more directed towards the lack of an update coming to the 1.5 release version even after a week or two in beta and alpha, but again, this may be normal like you have said, and I just may not have noticed.
  17. I'm not telling you not to try, but I would wait for it just to come in an update (likely next one IMO). That being said, I'm with ya. I saw the update log for 1.5.8 and was a little salty they weren't for 2.2 as well.
  18. This is a very common misconception due to the two MFCD's, TGP, air-to-ground roles. In reality they are very different. Honestly there are very few planes with characteristics like the A-10. Where the Hog will loiter around the battlefield for hours finding and picking off targets with its intuitive sensors and large payload, the harrier will have a set target area in mind, get in, get out, likely winchester after a few passes. The Harrier doesn't have near the fuel efficiency of the A-10 but makes up for it with speed. The Harrier doesn't have near the weapons capacity of the A-10 but makes up for it by being VSTOL capable. I know we don't have our hands on the Hornet yet, but I would say the Harrier is closer to the Hornet than the A-10, at least in terms of how it approaches ground targets. In terms of whether to get the M-2000 or the AV-8B there's two things. One, do you mind early access? Second, do you want to do A2A or A2G? Both are great planes in their respective roles. Also, do not underestimate the VSTOL aspect of the Harrier. It may not seem like much, but it is a pretty awesome experience that I don't see getting old anytime soon.
  19. Thank you!
  20. looking through DCS files I found the Gun Pod as AV8_T7.dds, was wondering if anyone has converted this to psd yet. Also, does anyone know where the strakes are? (I think that's what they're called)
  21. Ditto to all the positive comments. Great module, will only get better! Now if only a plane had the VSTOL and speed capabilities of the harrier combined with the loitering and weapon capacity of the A-10!... What? Asking for too much? Haha!
  22. This is awesome, great find! I find the corrections for common errors section to be pretty funny at times. Some of them might as well just say "don't be an idiot." After looking through some of the procedures though, I'm definitely one of the "idiots" doing it wrong haha!
  23. I had a problem of over using the TGP when I first started flying the A-10. Like others have said, use your TAD or hud to mark targets, and then slave the TGP to it. Also don't be afraid of using your good ol' mark I eyeballs. The point is if you try to slew around the battlefield exclusively with your TGP, you will have a hard time. You can get away with it at distance, but once you're on scene your going to have to use a mixture of all your target designation capabilities. If you just love using the TGP so much (I'll admit it is pretty nice) then just keep some distance.
  24. Only out for 1.5 open beta, got it. 2.1 is coming in a week or two, fair enough. Any info on when it will make it's way to stable 1.5? I'm by no means grabbing my pitchfork on this, but the whole only released in 1.5 open beta to start seems to be info worthy of sharing prior to release day. If it was and I didn't see it then cool, I'll eat my words.

    Yak-52B?

Outside of training, these "oddball" planes could lead to some interesting scenarios... Multiplayer escort mission. Two players in the Yak spotting/avoiding bandits while friendlies escort. A VIP mission of sorts. Seen similar missions done escorting unarmed ground vehicles manned by players. Personally wouldn't have picked the Yak for this but the point is I'm sure people will make it work. Price... well, usually depends on the level of simulation and included features in DCS. If light attack version or some kind of weapons system is included, and it's full fidelity, full price... if it's just the trainer...eh.. that's where it gets tricky. I'll place my bet when we know a little more.
