You just plug it in and windows will download everything it needs. You don't need to roll back unless you want to increase the rendering resolution wmr sets back to 2.0 which is basically the equivalent of setting steam vr options SS to 200%. You should also download steam vr and wmr for steam vr either stable or beta as you need that for DCS.

On Reddit NineLine mentioned he is trying to figure out what's going on with that update. Most likely will be pushed until Friday if it's not released today. They found something last night and are probably trying to fix it.

Would love to hear your thoughts. I just checked amazon US and it doesn't even show up in the search. I wouldn't want to order from HP because Amazon has super easy returns for whatever reason if a return is warranted.

He does a good job explaining the way it compares to other headsets in terms of resolution, screen door effect, panels, the controllers, etc. I think he mixes up the length of the cables. Both have 3.5m but the pro has the .6m additional for the backpack edition which he says is .5 longer which isn't the case I suppose. He mainly reviews video games so I wouldn't expect a super detailed review on hardware like this. He does a much better job reviewing games and I can say that he saved me a lot money from buying games that weren't worth it.

I was just going to post ACG's review of it. He does mention DCS at 14min and says it's extremely good at the clarity of the dials and resolution. I dont think I watched the whole thing though and was curious what hardware his PC is running. He does mention because it's lcd the blacks are not as dark so be aware that night scenes will show as a bit of gray.

Oh he initially had to turn shadows off to set other settings higher. But he said it was really tough to use the headset at 90hz because it required more power to get stable frames. But when he set to 60hz it played much nicer. Not sure what his steam SS was set to.
-
I thought this was the same guy on Reddit I talked to who told me he had to have everything on low in DCS to get 60fps. We will know soon enough when Wags tests it out.
-
Even a 2080ti won't be able to run it with high settings unless you remove shadows. But hopefully the VR improvements help out.
-
Nice! Will definitely like to hear what you think. You had great things to say about the rift S. I'm hoping performance is decent enough that I can still use the same settings as my Odyssey.
-
Yup 2080 is close to the 1080ti. So that is good to hear. Looking forward to to impressions. I wish they would have shipped already.
-
Yes VR is very demanding as now you are drawing a 3D render on everything and on top of that the dcs engine is not the best when it comes to optimizations(minus the 50% vr improvement patch which hopefully will do us more justice). It may not be so demanding on lesser resolution optics but with the reverb pushing the highest resolution, you need more power to drive it. As always shadows will be the first setting people will have to turn down.
-
That's somewhat a relief. I think soon we will have some people reporting here who have obviously used dcs longer than that Reddit person. He admitted he wasn't familiar with the sim but at least those of us who have had it for years will have a better understanding of what settings to use.

Ah ok yea that is pretty good for the 1060. I'm using 32gb of ram which seems to help out a bit. I've held off on flying for a long time now because I've been excited about a new headset but now it seems like I may not even replace the odyssey if the Reverb performance is bad.
-
No sure what card you have but with a 1080ti I can have everything high except shadows and PD of 1.5 and last time I measured fps I got above 45 at low altitude and much higher obviously flying higher, at least on caucus. You may be able to bump up some of your settings depending on the card.
-
I think most people that plan on getting the Reverb have 2080Ti's. If the one person on Reddit said the 2080ti can barely hold 60 fps with all settings on the lowest in DCS, I don't have too much hope for the Reverb. Which is why I'm holding off on waiting for people to get it and try it out. I'd like to upgrade from my Odyssey but I dunno if the Rift S is a big enough upgrade if the Reverb pans out to be a no go.
-
Looking forward to your impressions gents. I really hope performance isn't as bad as I've been expecting.
-
I guess yea if you are playing at 4k and want 60 fps on all your games. But to me I was getting 100+ fps on most of my games with my 1080ti at 3440x1440 ultra wide. Disposable income is not an issue, at least for me. It's what one perceives they are getting in return that makes it worth it or not and for me paying 50% more for 20% gain logically didn't make sense.
-
The reason I never got a 2080ti is simply because of the giant increase in price for a 20% increase or less increase in performance compared to previous Ti models. The big marketing seller was gigarays and RTX which is a tech that has yet to be fully implemented everywhere efficiently. I had one in my cart but cancelled it after reviews came out. I suspect the VR market is smaller for Nvidia and AMD and they are not really focusing on that portion as much at least from a consumer standpoint. With the Reverb being more of a business type solution, I wonder if Quadro cards is the type of category it would fall under.
-
Problem is new hardware is most likely 6+ months away. At least Nvidia with their newer cards which who knows how they will brand them going forward trying to make the most money, as usual.
-
Yea I feel the same way. Index is out of question due to need of base stations and price. At least for me, all I use VR for is DCS. Seeing how we don't really have next gen Ti graphics cards yet, without spending $1300, for barely 60hz on low settings I guess I'm stuck with my Odyssey. Unless I can try it out from Amazon and return it no hassle. I really don't expect it to run that well in DCS, not without hiccups or having to sacrifice settings where I may not see an improvement at all. But I'll wait anyway and see what those that ordered one report. I gave him my specs and this was his comment regarding DCS: "Well I did a lot more testing in DCS after I narrated the video, as DCS isn't my primary game at all and I really don't know it very well. I found the issue to be shadows - if they are on at all framerates are terrible, when it's off I can get rather high settings. As I love shadows I hate turning them off - as for upgrading a 1080ti is just barely above the minimum specs (hard to believe that's actually the case!) so if you want the same framerate yes, you'll absolutely have to turn things down. That said you can run the Reverb at 60hz and if you're running the Odyssey at 90 (and not getting reprojection to 45, and I bet you are) then you'd be okay. Regardless I'd take the Reverb of the Odyssey any day as I thought the Odyssey was one of the worst I've ever used given how painfully uncomfortable it is."
-
Interesting to know that. I most likely still won't super sample anything. It's kind of disappointing about the cable being so short. I just hope extensions do end up working with it in case I ever want to do any stand up games. Looking forward to watching that video after work. As soon as we get impressions from the community here and they happen to be good, I'll order. Looking more at the Reddit post he has a 2080ti and had to turn down almost every setting to low in DCS to struggle to maintain 60hz. Not sure if this will be the answer to many like myself with a 1080ti because well the clarity won't matter if all the settings have to be at the lowest. He says people with a 1080ti may struggle in the end.
-
I also run the odyssey at PD of 1.5 and it's fine so here's hoping. I thought the pro version of reverb had a longer cable. I don't plan on using it much for room scale but if the cable is really that short it seems it was made just for sitting use? Not sure how much of a price difference the pro vs regular is, but I would probably wait until I can get the pro if the longer cable comes with it along with a comfier lining.
-
Thanks yea he also has a 2080ti. Another person asked if he should upgrade to a 2080 which is equivalent to the 1080ti...what I have now. Hopefully with the VR update performance would still be decent with the Reverb.
-
I'll be looking forward to the impressions when you get it. I'm not buying anything yet until I hear about how the reverb does in dcs.
-
Yea it depends. I wonder if those people leave in game pixel density at 1.0? I tried 1.5x SS and 1.0 in game pixel density on my Odyssey but I prefer just using the PD instead of applying any super sampling.
