Not sure about that, maybe were also talking about the rift S and it's connector. Maybe they were hyping it up for the resolution increase. I have no doubt the resolution is better. But for DCS the way DCS is currently optimized in VR is trash. Well, until the VR update comes in. I need to see comparison to the fov in the odyssey too.
-
I may just stick with my Odyssey. If the chromatic abrasion and fov are different I may not like that. Rift S on paper has a lower resolution than the odyssey but I'm curious what people say. There is a Microsoft store where I live and they have the rift and odyssey + for people to try. I wonder if they will have the reverb there to try out. It would really make it simple if I could try it. I hate ordering these things and then repacking them to send back if I don't like them because it's a hassle.

Yea that review didn't sound promising especially for DCS. But we would need to wait and see what people say who got it for DCS. He also didn't mention anything about how it fairs on current gpu's and processors.
-
I'm guessing one would need to unplug their monitor if they only have one display port on their card. I just checked my card and I have 2 HDMI and 2 display port 1.4 ports. Which is odd if you only had one display port as you would wonder how you would you launch all the apps you need then unplug your monitor unless there is a way through the Oculus software to access your desktop like wmr does.

Please review it when you get a chance along with your PC specs.

Since I have the Odyssey already I don't think I would go to the odyssey +. I also have the first rift. I have astigmatism as well but only in my right eye. I used to think things were blurry in both headsets until I wore my contacts and then the odyssey was the winner in resolution. Now I just got prescription lense adapter for it. I will wait for reviews on rift S and reverb.
-
Nope I meant the original odyssey, its what I have. On paper the odyssey seems to have higher resolution than the rift S but I'm curious to see how it compares.
-
I think it's a mini display port to display port adapter. I would also have to check if my gpu has available display ports.
-
If you have tried the Odyssey I would like to get your review and comparison on it.
-
Seems cool but honestly I prefer my hotas.
-
Depends how thin the glasses are. If they are thick they may touch the vr lenses and that is no good as they will get scratched.
-
Use these guys they will make adapters for your odyssey that snap right on. I've been using mine without issue. I also wear contacts but after work when I get home I take my contacts out so these made flying less tiring at the end of the day. https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/

I've been using the Odyssey and I also have a rift. I preferred the odyssey for the better visuals. Now I am also considering the rift S so I would wait until reviews come out from those that got it for DCS. There is the more expensive hp reverb too but we don't know how it will perform for DCS.

The reverb sounds a bit more like 2nd gen based on the fov and resolution while the rift S seems 2.5. I think the rift S may have a bit better clarity than the odyssey which would be nice. What you mentioned in the last portion sounds more like a third gen headset and I also expect the price to be a lot more expensive. So far I don't see much of a difference in resolution for the rift S compared to the odyssey except: - Better tracking; - Better controllers; - Most likely more comfortable for most people; - Better lenses; - Native support to Oculus software. They are marketing the reverb more toward businesses. At least that is what I got from their website. It will definitely be useable, for sure in steam and Oculus games but not too sure how smooth it will be for DCS.
-
I think so too. It would be nice if the rift S is clearer than the odyssey as it's cheaper than the Reverb so I'd go that route. One thing I hate about the odyssey is that it's not as comfortable to wear as my Oculus. I'm hoping the reverb is more comfortable in that regard. Looks like reverb will be out may 6th so we should be getting some reviews later in the month.

I have an odyssey right now and I'm not buying any new headset until we get some reviews on how they will run in DCS as that's what I'll mainly be using it for. When I used my Oculus I played some other games because the software was more intuitive. I'm really concerned about the resolution of the Reverb and what it will take to run it smoothly. I don't want to spend $1300 on a 2080ti just for the headset when my 1080ti handles every other game I may play on my 3440x1440p monitor with pretty much max settings. I told myself I'll wait for the next iterations of Ti cards after the 20 series reviews came out. Wags mentioned the rift S made everything clearer to read and I already thought cockpits were clear enough for me with the Odyssey so I'm wondering if it's actually better. I know a lot of people on here preordered the S so I'm waiting on their reviews. Hopefully some of them have also tried the Odyssey. Then it will just be more waiting to see how the Reverb does. To me it feels like it will be better but you can't really say that based on resolution alone if it's gonna run like crap.

I like Klipsch speakers I have them for my PC setup with a sub and they are blutooth too. Great sound too. I would probably do the same unless Oculus announces add on speakers. I really want to know how it compares to my Odyssey. Obviously the Reverb will have better panels and a higher resolution but if the reverb will require me to upgrade my 1080Ti and the S won't, then it makes sense to go with Oculus. Unless of course we get new gpu cards available too anytime soon which we won't I think.

Someone at work told me the rift S has audio through an audio band around the headset above your ears, but just no headphones. You can definitely connect any headphones to it. I'm curious how loud this audio band may be.
-
Yea if it has a mic built in I have a pair of headphones I can use. But I'll wait for reviews first to see how it compares to the odyssey. I may just end up with the HP reverb, that one also does not have an ipd adjuster.
-
I almost bought those when I was looking for headsets for PC. The Logitech were cheaper at the time and had better reviews. I also preferred the small USB dongle which made it easy to work with my Xbox X and PS4 pro too.
-
Yea which is why I am also waiting for reviews because earphones would also have to have a mic too if you wanted to talk in multiplayer or use Viacom in DCS. I know for a fact my Logitech g933 headset would be too bulky to wear on top of the rift S. Also I heard Oculus is thinking of coming out with attachment headphones for it.
-
Also are people buying new headphones? I have other headphones but they are Logitech gaming headphones and they are heavy to wear on top of a headset like this.
-
I'm interested in how it compares to the Odyssey. It's either rift S or reverb for me as the next upgrade. I just let my coworker borrow my rift so he could see if it would be something he is in to.

Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
sze5003 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Sounds great, can't wait for this to come out. I've been doing the enemy within 3.0 campaign and I could definitely use this training campaign to improve my knowledge. -
Surprised because the price of the reverb is $699 or so last time I checked. I wonder why the Acer is cheaper. Probably the build quality. Either way with the rift S, reverb, and this I guess we will have to wait to see what is the best one to go with if you are replacing an odyssey. Also it looks like the Acer has IPD adjustment and the Reverb does not.
