  1. I guess I was thinking it would make me sound like a bad fan. I jumped on the hornet pre order I think a week or two before it was suppose to become available. It just made the wait for me feel less longer if that makes any sense. I know heatblur does great work because I bought the viggen randomly and was surprised how authentic and detailed it felt, which encouraged me to learn it and enjoy it more.
  2. Appreciate the info. I know it may sound bad but I want to wait until almost the last possible time to pre order so then I don't feel like I'm waiting any longer. Love the previews I've seen so far!
  3. These are my settings for VR with a PD of 1.5 if anyone wants to try them out. Runs smoothly enough for me on the Odyssey. Hopefully it helps someone out. I know I got tired of messing with settings to try to get the best visual/performance for a while.
  4. Trim is very slow with full flaps. You have to hold the trim button for it to move a little bit. I find it more trouble to use the trim in AAR since it is so slow it screws you up. I should swap to my warthog grip because it's heavier than the MT-50 so I might be able to make finer adjustments that way. The MT-50 grip is very light plastic and I think it's throwing me off because sometimes I end up moving the base too in VR.
  5. I'll be trying to get one of these Monday. I have a warbrd base and mt-50 right now because I wanted the ability to use the warthog grip but I still have not used it much on there. Curious of the differences between the two so I'm looking forward to owning both. I used heavy springs on the warbrd but it's better suited for the heavier warthog grip not a lighter grip so I think I'll stick with the stock vkb springs on the gunfighter when I finally can grab one.
  6. Has anyone tried the warthog throttle curves here ? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=214802 I'm going to give them a try when I'm home to see if it helps. I don't have that many issues as long as the tanker is flying straight it's when he constantly banks before I connect that throws me off. Obviously trying to keep speed by moving through throttle will create a bit of PIO which is why I feel the curves may be necessary, at least for me. For some odd reason I find carrier landing and refueling the A10C easier.
  7. True, each person has a technique that works for them. For me I forgot what it was because I have not flown in a while. But at one point I did have some technique I used and connected each time as long as the tanker was straight and level. I'll have to figure out the throttle curves to make them smoother. I was doing the AAR mission from this campaign and the tanker ends up banking a lot. He's also at 228 knots which seems ok but also feel very slow. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3302808/ The biggest thing I notice is I need to relax myself and not get frustrated or nervous. That is when I end up screwing up.
  8. After some time I managed to connect. But not for long mainly because the guy starts turning as soon as I'm nice and stable about 2 meters from the basket haha. The throttle does take a while to get used to once you come back to refueling. I'm using my virpil warbrd base with heavy springs but the MT 50 grip. Maybe I should swap out for the normal springs because I put the heavy ones on thinking that I'd use the warthog grip. But I don't want to recalibrate right now and redo all my bindings.
  9. Had no clue you could slide the padding over. I'll try to get rid of those flaps. Thanks!
  10. There are full version missions where you often start on the runway hot and have to take off and go through all the way points or short version of the same mission in day and night where you start in the air somewhere at waypoint 1 which puts you closer to the targets.
  11. Maybe he was just testing some things with the Odyssey for a while. I know the Odyssey isn't as comfortable as the rift. But I can't go back to the rift because I like the resolution of the Odyssey much more. At least with the rift I could breath lol the Odyssey squeezes my nose a lot and I'm often stuffed up so it's annoying.
  12. No worries it's been a while since I refueled in the hornet. I'll keep trying I think I just have some bad luck because I'll line up and make it so close to the basket then the tanker initiates a turn :) But I'm having fun with these missions. I want to play them in sequence so I'm forcing my self to do them in order before moving on to the attack stuff.
  13. I remember I did refuel in the hornet a few times a while back. Not sure what changed now but it seems my warthog throttles have a bit less response pushing them past 50% on the rails. It feels like I move the past military power and the response isn't linear. I need to move them up a bit more past that and then my speed just shoots up quickly. If I lower them to mill power or a bit less the speed takes a while to decrease. What settings in the throttle axis do you guys use if any? I don't remember the power curve acting like this on the throttles. I remember having to move them a lot but the speed increase and decrease used to be better.
  14. I flew day 0, 1, and 2 so far. Can't quite get the AAR because I haven't done it in a while. Seems the tanker flying around 228 knots makes it a bit difficult because it feels like you're fighting the FCS system. My favorite mission I think so far is the night formation. Once I got my NVG's on it and adjusted them, it was a really nice ride. I had some trouble seeing the tanker because of the darkness but adjusting the nvg's up and down fixed that.
  15. Very good to know. I have the original Odyssey and luckily I don't have the misalignment issue. I wonder if it's particular to the Odyssey + I know Wags uses an Odyssey too but he hasn't mentioned having this issue either. Good to know they will fix it whether it's windows or the DCS team.
  16. Looking forward to trying these. Thanks !
  17. You can stop the Oculus service from running when you boot up your PC if you will use the Samsung. But I don't think you can use the rift controllers with the Odyssey. The Odyssey controllers don't use the rift sensors and can't since they don't require it and have different tracking. Check out Revive for oculus games that you can play on the Odyssey using the Odyssey controllers.
  18. I think during the holidays it was going for $299 but enjoy it. You are in for a treat the f18 cockpit looks great in VR.
  19. Yea I thought so too. The Odyssey isn't as comfortable as the rift. It squeezes my nose a bit too much but the magic spot where you can see everything clear is easier to find than in the rift. I saw people returning the Odyssey + because they said it wasn't comfortable. So I'm definitely waiting for the next gen.
  20. What's the difference with the Odyssey+ ? I don't notice much screen door effect with my Odyssey. Whereas it's more apparent in my Rift.
  21. I will say that before I got VR I had track IR. Before I had track IR I barely flew in DCS. It just was too difficult. Track IR was fine but jumpy because I could never find the right curves. Also even with better VR hardware I hope ED will optimize DCS a little better. I feel like the Odyssey is pretty good in resolution and it can only get better from here. Also with any computer hardware, there's always a new version coming so waiting isn't always the best option unless price is ridiculous. Example: 2080ti vs 1080ti only 20% better in traditional performance but 50% more expensive.
  22. I finally was able to release my Mavericks yesterday. I ended up taking out three tanks and didn't realize that you are suppose to fire when the instructor tells you to press the pickle button. Thus all I had left was the laser mav which I didn't get to use because the tutorial instructions were still waiting for me to press fire on the IR Maverick. Will try out the guns and rockets tutorial later when I get a chance. These are gonna end up being some great tutorials which I feel are much needed for this airframe.
  23. Those are all good points. The competitive crowd is similar to those that play competitive fps games. They rather have the raw performance compared to immersion. Similar to for example playing battlefield V on a 144hz gsync monitor compared to 60hz because it offers better performance and smoothness if your rig can handle it. I had a 27 inch 144hz panel and switched to a 34 inch 120hz gsync wide screen. For me that's more immersive when playing non VR games. I also find the widescreen more useful when I work from home. I can write my code, have outlook and several other tools open with no shortage of screen space on my monitor. But 90% of the time when I use my Odyssey I'm flying in DCS. I don't see myself going back to monitor for DCS. When gen 2.0 headsets come out I'll be the first to get one because I enjoy DCS so much more with it. I'm still waiting to see when google and LG are suppose to release their headset. It's suppose to have really good resolution. I kind of wish I had pre-order a pie max after watching Jabbers review of one. Now they are quite pricey. But for me, I would only use it for DCS. I find that my rift is much more comfortable in terms of headset and controllers when it comes to not flying DCS. Edit: Those missions sound interesting. I do have the PG map and the hornet. I'm nowhere proficient with the jet yet. My long time flight hours were mainly in the A10c before the hornet came out. I really hope they do update the cockpit textures in the A10. The hornet cockpit looks much nicer in VR.
  24. Check out VR lens lab if you want to have custom lenses created for your rift. This one here is for the Samsung Odyssey and I have not ordered any yet because next month I go in to renew my contacts so I'll ask for all the details regarding my glasses which I just wear when I'm home. https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/ Your eye doc should be able to provide those numbers for you. Just posting it in case people didn't know about it. Sometimes I wanna do a late night flight but after having my contacts in all day it makes it tough. Having these lense adapter could make that possible.
  25. I'd say it's worth it if your PC can handle it. I used to have a rift, still do in the closet. I use the Samsung Odyssey now. Resolution is fine and clear for me mostly except for the harrier. Can't wait to get better vr equipment later. One thing is I have everything on high with PD of 1.5 and it runs pretty smooth. Sure it could be better but it's much nicer compared to track IR. ED just needs to optimize VR better. I have played other vr Sims and games and dcs optimization feels a bit lacking so I had to compromise with setting some things lower than others like shadows and msaa. For those saying they cant see the mfd's, a PD of 1.5 with the right settings on high vs shadows low and civilian traffic off, less smoke density will make it better to use a higher PD. But I also wonder if people flying in VR had their eye exams lately because when i first got the rift I didn't have my contacts in and I could not make out text easily at all. Always had to zoom. Wasn't happy and felt like I wasn't seeing it how it's suppose to be portrayed. Since I wear my contacts now all the time everything is crystal clear at least in the Odyssey. I only have to use the zoom in the harrier and other cramped Jets like the mirage.
