Yeah, I tried lowering and increasing gain. Raising it made the most difference, but I nearly had to increase it to the point where it was just a white light. I found this guy's video of the mission on Youtube - - At 24:30 you sort of see what I mean, except mine seems even worse. It bewilders me why those boats are lit up in the first place, but the most disorientating thing is that they disappear just before you're in range to launch on them. Sooner ED figures out lighting the better. Edit - Thanks for the advice Baltic! I'll use it next time I play through the campaign, which could be fairly soon. Haha. As it is, I just let Olive handle them and focussed on the more juicy target ;-)

This is probably more a question about DCS rather than the campaign, but anyway! Spoilers ahead. In the mission you are tasked with engaging armed speedboats at night time. I think this may be the first time I've engaged water targets at night since ED re-did the night lighting, but I'm just finding it utterly impossible. For whatever reason, the boats all have lights on them from a distance which disappear as you get close. The problem is that with NVGs they flicker like Christmas lights and are actually quite blinding. But without NVGs... it's just a black ocean and I can't see them. So.. am I maybe doing something wrong with my setup as regards to night time ops? Should I change the gamma settings or something? Or for this mission should I just use a workaround and point track each boat with the pod? Curious to know how others got on with this task!

R1 temporary bug fixes (currently: M02)
LooseSeal replied to baltic_dragon's topic in F/A-18C Raven One Campaign
Thanks for that Baltic! No worries about it all and really no need to apologise. I think any seasoned DCS players are aware how finicky the AI and ME can be :-D Just for anyone downloading the new Mission 8, you'll need to replace the '_' in the file name with a space. -

I'm not sure what's going on... I'm definitely on the new open beta version (.54046) but I didn't have that in the kneeboard, and now on Mission 8 Olive is still blocked by a static aircraft. Not sure what I've done wrong! -

Hey Baltic, I'm pretty sure I've got today's update but the Marshal frequency still isn't on the kneeboard for Mission 6? :-) -
There's definitely some weird AI behaviour being exhibited, shocking for DCS, I know. One of the few times I've got Prince to continue correctly after Joker, he then began a Mach .35 climb to 28,000... he didn't make it to 28 by the time we reached the waypoint and promptly disappeared and reappeared 3,000 feet above me. Another time he dove straight into the water at 500kts and seconds later came flying back out of it like a bat out of hell. Not to say any of this is anything to do with you, Baltic Dragon! I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. And frankly I can't wait to see what you're capable of when ED sorts out the AI :-D EDIT: Is there another issue in the mission or am I being a bit stupid? You're told not to use DCS comms until prompted, but I never receive any prompt even though I'm sitting off his wing at 8,000 (though the dialogue says he should be at 5,000?).
-
I thought I'd just ask here rather than making another mission 5 thread - when it's suggested that we tip Prince's wing over... we're not supposed to do that, right? There is a chance that I got impatient and immediately tried to do it. It did not end well. The AI attempted avoidance and avoided himself right into me.

Thanks for that RpSPT! Worked perfectly and very much appreciated. -

With the mission 3 bug, is there any way to manipulate the logbook to revert back to before mission 3 was started? I don't really want to miss the rest of the mission, but at the same time I haven't really got the time to replay the first two either! -

I think he means that the link doesn't seem to be working. Not that he could have just said that :-/ Edit: There's a '.' at the end of the url that shouldn't be there. -
Yeah, it's getting close to simply having to re-download it all again. I've tried many things to get it to work but no joy. I'm going to try one last method as advised to me by moderator Nirvi on here, which involves the updater copying files from the Steam install automatically. If it works then I'll report back here in case anyone else has the same issues. Thanks for the help though, Flappie, much appreciated!

Sorry if this has come up before or if it's a stupid question! Already searched the forum for how to do this and followed instructions others had laid out, but I've come up against a wall.. Rather than downloading the entire thing again (I live rurally, so it god knows how long it could take...) I copied my Steam DCS folder into the newly created folder for the standalone. I changed the Config Retail file to say ED rather than STEAM. I then ran the Repair action from the quickstart menu. It seemed it had worked, but when I tried to start it said "Authorization failed" and none of my modules showed up in the game. And yet.. in the module manager it says they're all installed!? So.. I deleted all my aircraft/terrain etc from the Mods folder, ran a repair and went back to check - module manager prompted me to install my modules (for some reason only the aircraft/terrain and not the campaigns). So I did that, restarted and.... nope. Modules still greyed out. Really not sure what I've done wrong... anyone had similar issues and can help!? Really want to use the Standalone so that ED gets my money in future.

Raven One: upcoming DLC campaign for F/A-18 Hornet
LooseSeal replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I'll be cheeky and ask whether it'll come on Steam today too? Usually I assume it'll come later but Steam did recently get Serpent's Head 2 on release day, which was quite a surprise. -
No offence or anything, but... I don't think I'm sure what the point of this is? Am I missing something?
-
That's odd... a basic short track file with only you and one or two other units could be less than 1MB. Obvious question.. are you in A/G master mode when selecting MAVs?

I think ED has said (maybe in one of those interviews with Nick Grey and such that have been popping up?) that the UI will undergo an overhaul at some point. I think he said the website was in need of redoing as well, such as bringing the User Files section to the forefront. I have a feeling that the UI overhaul could happen sometime around the launch of MAC, as newcomers to DCS could do with a slightly more modern looking and intuitive interface. AS QuiGon said, not much of an issue for people already immersed in (and addicted to) DCS, but could be off-putting for new users, particularly younger ones. What you've done looks great, though!

Good to hear! Thanks for listening!

Hey Glyn, I was doing mission 3 and I'd just destroyed the Geckos and artillery when instructed to go to tanker. I input the Tacan and began a turn towards the tanker. I mean, it was a leisurely turn, I admit, but maybe I went too far away from the tanker and I got a mission fail notification saying "You did not complete the second task" or similar. It's just my opinion, of course, but I think if that fail is related to being too far from the tanker then maybe it should change or the distance increased? I think I was 17 miles away when I failed. I egressed west after launching my final maverick so I was already a good bit away from the tanker when I received the message. By the way! I finally got past mission 1! Haha. Turned out a lot of my issues were the Frogfoots going defensive on me after firing the rockets but before getting to the runway midpoint and therefore their immortality never turned off. Hopefully that will be solved for others in the update :-)

Hey guys, just return to the Hornet for the first time in a while... and apparently I've become an idiot in that time. Practicing the various weapons, got to the HARM and TOO mode and I cannot understand what stupid mistake I'm making. Simple set-up of a Tunguska ahead - master arm is on, a/g mode is on, too mode is selected, hand-off is done on the target and marked as H-OFF, even use the RAID/FLIR button even though no other targets are possible. Coming in at about 15,000ft and launching 400kts+, at about 7 to 8nm and pointing the Harm's POV cross at the target... but the first Harm ALWAYS lofts and goes off and does its own thing. The second launch occasionally finds the target and the 3rd and 4th are always fine. I do not know what stupid mistake I'm making that makes the first launch always fail to lock and the rest find the target... Tried this a dozen times now. I've included a short track file. Thanks for any help, and excuse the obviousness of the question... harmtoo.trk

Stuck at the first mission
LooseSeal replied to ojneverson's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
That's really great to hear! Thank you! I've now tried the mission 7 times and been shot down each time... I think you've got to be very lucky to shoot down one early on so you get can quickly get behind the other. But if you end up on the defensive at any point or lose track of one (and given spotting in DCS, that isn't hard..) then you're basically done for. More importantly.. what idiot decided the Hornet didn't need an MWS!? Haha. Glyn - is there any way you could upload the new mission file for us? Sorry.. just enthusiastic to try out the whole campaign because I enjoyed the first :-D -
Stuck at the first mission
LooseSeal replied to ojneverson's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Just tried the first mission myself, and even though I knew roughly what was going to happen I decided to concentrate on giving those folks a damn good air display. Which I was fully focused on doing when that guy suddenly shouted something... I moved to switch the Master Arm on and -boom- already dead. So... I don't know, maybe make the guy's warning come a bit earlier? Or.. get the Su-25s to focus only on the crowd to begin with as that seems to be their primary mission. But currently I had absolutely no time to react before I was hit with 2 Aphids. There's also the issue with the R-60s themselves, in that I doubt most people, on their first run through, will have bothered to set up their countermeasures (which can be a bit of chore in the Hornet). Hell, I forgot to turn the whole system on! Haha. So maybe a warning in the briefing to set up a flare programme? -

Operation Pontus - upcoming dynamic DLC campaign
LooseSeal replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Missions and Campaigns
This is awesome news! The interactive element is very interesting... So that's 3 upcoming full campaigns in addtion to Raven One and the F-14B. Are there any more due out soon? (he asks greedily..!) -
Has anyone who has used this with DCS installed on Steam ever got the error message "This DLC is not authorized" when launching, or something to that effect? I'm pretty sure I've installed everything in the right place (even though the files aren't in the Saved Games location for Steam installs), and correctly edited the MissionScripting file.. although oddly enough it didn't reset or needed to be changed after the latest update?

TIR5 solution regarding attachment
LooseSeal replied to Ken Wenholt's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use TIR too and use a plain plastic hair band my partner gave me and works perfectly! Clips on the side and won't get in your way. I couldn't bear a baseball cap.... way too uncomfortable after a while, especially on a hot day. And pretty sore on the ears if (like me) you wear glasses. Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
