  1. I was wondering this too. I just assumed there was some kind of criteria for firing it, but there is no documentation about it and I can't seem to find a pattern. If it is as intended then not being able to fire steeper than 20 degrees seems a bit weird... and makes your strafing a bit of a dangerous affair!
  2. I just tried Mission 3 (I think? The GBU bombing one, anyway). Something went a bit wrong... everything was fine until the wingman is called in to bomb the large centre building. He drops his bomb, but there is no voice-over for "one away" and he immediately descends to 6,000ft and makes a beeline for the Tarawa. Also nothing from Norseman either. Also, I think the times are set wrong. The voice-overs and briefing talks about 7am local time, but it is actually 8am local time.
  3. In addition to the many other rebuttals your post has had already... didn't someone, I think it was Nick Grey, in an interview clearly state that the dynamic campaign would be for multiplayer servers also? Now I'm almost exclusively a singleplayer, but if I was into multiplayer then the idea of a consistent dynamic campaign being run between a few dozen people, or two virtual squadrons facing off, would seem like a revolutionary thing for DCS. Hell, even I would be tempted to get involved with that. The dynamic campaign, for me personally, is the biggest thing I'm looking forward to. Well, maybe after the clouds
  4. 3rd quarter of 2021 for EA! And judging by the screenshot most of the cockpit art is done.... I wonder how far along the external model is?
  5. I'm just going to say it because nobody else has... make sure you have a pretty damn good PC for the Syria map. It's the only DCS map I routinely have performance issues with, even without other units. Playing Liberation on it, even with distance culling, is crazy slow at times... haven't got that with any other map. The addition of Cyprus terrifies me! That said, it is the best map for DCS in terms of beauty and detail, and my PC is nowhere near as good as others out there. But I'd keep it in mind if you don't have a pretty good GPU and at least 32GB of RAM.
  6. Oh god.. if the mission hadn't been split and I'd died at that point I might have smashed my computer! I'll keep trying! Thanks.
  7. Spoilers ahead for anyone of course! I've tried this maybe 7 or 8 times now... The Phantoms are not an issue. The problem is that Su-33. If I'm still in a dogfight with a Phantom it will literally appear out of the ground. Or if I'm already bugging out to the south west it will spawn in about 2 miles behind me. Both times it will fire missiles almost immediately after spawning. My last attempt had it appear on my RWR one mile behind me and fire at exactly the same time. I was at 15,000ft and constantly checking my six... I felt really cheated. There just isn't enough time to react to it... And yet nobody else has posted about this mission.. what on earth am I doing wrong here?? How do I defend against an enemy that is invisible until it's right beside me!?
  8. That's strange... You shouldn't need to specifically switch anything on for the autopilot to work. Are you replicating the tutorial exactly? To be honest, sometimes the tutorials include things that are either outdated or unnecessary (don't think they've been updated since release??) Tomcat's tutorial is the same. Try downloading one of the quick start checklists from the User Files section into your Kneeboard and following that instead. Like this one, for example: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3309354/
  9. I just know this is going to be a really dumb question and I'm not doing something right! But when I'm in the reticle mode for the HMD and I use TDC depress on the ground it keeps designating a point in mid-air... which is obviously not very helpful when tried to get the TGP to look in that direction. This only seems to happen sometimes... particularly after a cold start, which is why I think it's me! Anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Edit - Due to what I'm reading here, on page 14 - https://trace.tennessee.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3359&context=utk_gradthes Is this just an accurate recreation of the JHMCS's error in calculating BAAT? Funnily enough, lowering my altitude and placing the nose in the direction of where I wanted to designate seemed to help. Guess I've answered my own question, but hopefully it helps anyone with a similar problem.
  10. Of course the Typhoon is used for strike roles. It's not a CAS aircraft by any means, but it has been used extensively by the RAF for strikes against IS in Syria. Hence why the Tornado was retired, because the Typhoon does it all, and better. The initial version we get in the Early Access release will be AA only, but ground weapons will be added in time.
  11. I think (hope) you're being a bit overly pessimistic with the 2+ years. Wasn't the Viper released the year they teased it in the end of year video? They've also been hinting at this for a while now, certainly if this is the 'mystery aircraft' they were talking about at the start of the year. I really don't see why they would include it in the video if it was 2+ years away, just seems like it would be a stupid thing to do. They didn't do it with the Hind.
  12. What exactly are you complaining about here? A 2 year old thread on a bug which has been fixed!? Also, if the ILS bug was enough to turn you to another game then I seriously doubt your heart was in DCS to begin with.
  13. I really can't see any fixes or substantial changes being made to the current ATC. I'd rather they just focused entirely on rebuilding it from the ground up anyway.
  14. You can play up until about Mission 6 - that mission requires more bombs than you have. But up to then you can basically do it on your own. So you might as well start now while we wait for a fix!
  15. The Hornet doesn't seem that far off really, considering how complex it is it's not a surprise it's taking time. As for when Early Access will end, I'm fairly sure ED said recently both the Hornet and Viper should be finalised in 2021. The Tomcat (which isn't ED's product I should add) hasn't been out that long... and bear in mind that includes the F-14A which should be released soon enough, and has some completely different features, particularly the engines. As for the Mirage, well, you have a point there. But take that up with Razbam, not ED. And as for Razbam, I'm sure there are plenty of opinions out there without me adding to it.
  16. It's still playable. I mean, it's not like we ever really need the wingmen to do anything anyway! Or even if you did ask them there's no guarantee they'd do it! Haha Edit: Mission 4 too. But I think there might be issues with other aircraft too? When I quit mission 4 I saw in the log that 3 Mi-8's exploded in the first 5 seconds. Not sure where that happened or if it's critical to the mission, though.
  17. Uh oh, it's Mission 3 as well for Wingman 2.
  18. Hey Baltic, Unfortunately in mission 2 the wingman spawns with a fuel truck meshed inside his wing like a Cubist painting, and as soon as he moves they both explode!
  19. Hey guys I saw in Wags' Youtube video that they'd changed the default view, which I was really waiting for as a QOL improvement. But I've just gone to try it out and I'm still stuck with my head up to the HUD like a bad driver. I'm using TrackIR.. maybe I need to reset something on that end?? Or is it not changed for anyone else?
  20. Another one for that! As it stands, there is practically no single-player content for the II - this would be a really quick and easy fix, and much appreciated. Baltic Dragon seems to be finding no problems in converting The Enemy Within 3.0.
  21. Ah! I was just so used to the Anti-Ice system being done automatically, I just completely neglected to turn it on! Thanks :-D
  22. Finally got back to the campaign! But immediately hit a roadblock, haha. So... when you get to the part with the 'surge', what should I be doing? My first attempt I just crashed.. my second attempt, the guy just kept saying "right engine failure! If we survive I'll never fly with you again!" over and over. Then I tried to land, but crashed... Should I immediately try to land (without crashing )? Or try to get to SP-58 on one engine? This is more a case of my poor helicopter flying than the mission design!
  23. Hey! I've got to mission 5, and as I'm approaching Krasnodar I'm told that I'll be contacted once I reach the outer NDB (the main one on 490 something?), but I never get any more instructions. Someone says "commander, you need to contact ATC". So I contacted, requested landing, landed... and nothing. I don't know where I should taxi to... Maybe I missed a voiceover/trigger somewhere? I also have a little constructive criticism of things I've noticed so far in the campaign (which, by and large, has been very good and challenging!). - In mission 2 there is a voiceover which says "I have traffic in sight" or something similar. This voiceover happens way too early as I'm still nowhere near the airfield. Also in mission 2, it seems like the oil refinery is on fire? There's smoke billowing out of the buildings and not the chimneys... it's a bit weird. - In mission 3 you are told to take "position 12 in the pattern". I feel like this is meant to be "landing pad 12" or something similar, but it makes it seem like you are currently behind 11 other aircraft in the landing pattern. But my biggest issue with mission 3 was that as I was approaching the Kuznetsov it started launching SAMs and there was clearly some sort of live fire exercise. And yet... there was no comment from the crew at all!? If I was flying a helicopter and someone was launching missiles in front of me I would definitely have something to say! Probably with some profanity included... haha. - In mission 4 I noticed that in the briefings there are no speech marks. I know it's a small thing and unrelated to the sim, but it makes it hard to follow who is speaking and when... And just a general observation in a few of the missions, you the pilot are talking with ground control and say something like "roger, switching to 126.00" but then the conversation after this continues on the previous frequency. I think if you say "switching to a frequency" then that switch should happen immediately. Anyway... I'm only making notes of these things as I like to help make campaigns better for others who will play them later. As I said, I'm enjoying it very much and I hope there is no offence taken! :-D
  24. I can't agree with that... at least in terms of what I experience on my end. The nav lights don't scale properly to me. Up close they're ok and an improvement, but they suddenly become huge halos of light that eventually engulf the aircraft and are unrealistically visible at large distances. I also see an issue, at night, with aircraft in the distance being lit up despite having their lights off... at that point you may as well have labels on. But my biggest issue with the lighting as it stands is in using NVGs. I recently did a Hornet mission where small boats on the water, which did not have lights on them at all, were lit up and flashing like a Christmas tree at a distance and blinded the NVGs until I closed enough - at which point the lights promptly disappeared and left me disoriented. I think there's been a bit of an overcompensation... either that or it was a quickfix until a better solution was found. Either way, I think progress is being made and I'm sure ED will get there eventually.
  25. I'm pretty sure they're talking about Raven One, as I noticed something in the early missions also. I think I just assumed the carrier was on its own time or something, but it did seem odd.
