  1. I'm on OB, so I'm ok but I can completely understand why those on the Stable branch are going to be annoyed, because absolutely nowhere can I find it stated that the release would only be on OB. You're 100% right, it should have been much clearer.
  2. Yes, I'm fairly sure it has been stated that it is a concurrent release.
  3. "With the DCS: MiG-19P Farmer by RAZBAM Simulations to be released this Friday, 1 March 2019, we will be shifting our Open Beta release to Friday this week instead of the usual Wednesday. A benefit of this is that we’ll now have time to also release an eagerly awaited new Eagle Dynamics feature! Let the speculation run wild!" Even though they have named it as an "Eagle Dynamics" feature rather than Heatblur... I wonder what the chances are of it being the Tomcat? Well that's my wild speculation run for today anyhoo.
  4. No... I'm fairly sure that's PB mode, not TOO. There are no waypoints involved here and no range information whatsoever. Nobody has actually answered the question yet, and frankly, I have no idea what the practical difference between the two modes would be either.
  5. So two times today DCS has crashed at the end of a campaign mission. The first time it happened on clicking the green "end mission" button after quitting, so luckily I progressed from the mission regardless. This time, however, it crashed only on clicking "quit mission" and so did not log the successful mission. I really don't have the time to fly these long missions repeatedly, so yeah, pretty frustrating.... This is also far from the first time I've had issues with crashing on mission end. Not convinced it's specific to the Sturmovik campaign. Anyway, here's the log zip file. dcs.log-20190224-210037.zip
  6. Not much you can do about that other than change room... Well, I ended up having to tape the curtains right back against the window to stop the tiny sliver of sunbeam that was coming in. But apparently taping curtains to windows is "not a form of decorating," or so I was told...
  7. I'm fairly sure there is now the ability to do that since January. Have a read here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/500/#1510447 Though why not just buy it on standalone and transfer all your other modules to standalone?
  8. You may have been at 10,000 according to the barometric, but perhaps less in relation to the ground and there was enough for the Igla to have a pop at you? That's what I'm thinking. I've definitely made that mistake before of being way too complacent about baro altitudes, completely forgetting about the 2 or 3,000 feet of land between me and the sea... haha. I've only ever been hit by a tank cannon while in a helo and doing fairly low speeds.
  9. Oh it's definitely existed for quite a while. I've seen this problem for the last couple of years at least. It's only going to happen on aircraft with afterburners, because the AI simply does not know how to use them efficiently. It mainly is going to happen when the AI is chasing you for formation after taking off (which is why you should loiter and wait for them, or fly very slowly to begin with) or after an engagement and they end up far away from you. I'm fairly sure this will be fixed in the supposed AI overhaul being planned. Hopefully. Maybe.
  10. This is very much a known issue and being worked on. The AI in general should get an improvement this year, finally...
  11. Good to know! I'll be on the lookout!
  12. Without creating a whole new thread for it... is there any word on a Steam release? This is a great excuse to get back into the Hog! (Hoping the new textures won't be too long!)
  13. I feel like the Hornet is what you should go for if you're looking for total mission efficiency, and the ability to do, well, basically everything an "F/A" aircraft should be able to do. But... I'm personally looking forward to actually flying the Tomcat more than I looked forward to the Hornet as it just seems like it will feel more 'hands-on', dirtier, powerful, analogue... just look at the shakes of it in a tight turn! The Hornet on the other hand is fly-by-wire and, frankly, a child could (and can, as my 6 year old nephew can do it) fly it without much real bother. The addition of the RIO seat in the Tomcat could be interesting if you're looking to fly in multiplayer as well. Then there's the fact the F-14 will be more or less complete upon release, and that it will ship with 2 campaigns (not sure on when they'll be released, though). Oh, and the AIM-54. That's got to be worth a mention :-D
  14. Imagine how overpowered you'd say the Super Hornet was if we had that!!
  15. Yeah, first thing I turn off as soon as that screen flickers on. It's strange considering it works perfectly well on the A-10C.. But I also remember hearing that most Hornet pilots turn off the moving map in reality as it simply serves no purpose to them.
  16. Yeah.. I'd tried that, but the crashes are still happening frequently :-(
  17. Just to add my name to the list without creating a new thread for it as it seems like the same thing... DCS had always been very stable for me until last week's update, but now just constant crashes, particularly on missions with more units involved (maybe??). I'm getting crashes on the Hornet Task Force Challenger campaign a few minutes after take-off in mission 2, for example. Video card drivers are up to date (as of last week), no mods installed (ever), and nothing else has changed except the update last week. Also, page file was increased to try to solve it as I believed it was related to cycling the F2 key, but even if I don't do that, it still crashes. Regarding the page file, though, in my DXdiag it does say: 18368MB used, 17694MB available. Which seems like odd mathematics to me... but could be unrelated. dcs.log-20190122-205927.zip
  18. What you described doing in your first post should be enough to activate the HARMs. What I'm having trouble with is... what is the 'Grisha'? Which Nato designation are you referring to? Not sure if you maybe mean a Grizzly or a Grison... I have a feeling it's the Grison if you're only experimenting under 10,000ft. I'll load up a practice mission and see how it goes. EDIT: Or yes, could the RWR being turned off!

    JHMCS

I also find it a few degrees too low for my normal eye line and find myself looking up a lot. But my main issue with it is that (for my setup at least) there is a tiny, tiny little gap at the top of the UFC where the JHMCS doesn't work or isn't recognised... if I look above the gap, the AIM-9 locks; when I look below the gap the seeker resets and has to reacquire. It is insanely annoying. But I refuse to change my TrackIR profile as it's just the way I like it..
  20. He's most likely referring to the turn rate demonstrated in MagzTv's Youtube video, which is an impressive turn rate.
  21. I think you meant to ask 'can the RIO be injured or incapacitated in any way?' In which case - I don't know.. fairly sure it's been asked before, but I'm sorta doubtful that the DCS damage model allows for pilot injuries in the way a certain WW2 sim does. I just don't think that shrapnel is modelled to detect specific fragments and whether or not they would penetrate the cockpit.
  22. Do you mean in order to use it to slew the maverick, for example? If so, this was a whole 'thing'. The dev team couldn't get it to work due to a hardware issue (you can't slew and hold it down at the same time), which is hardly a surprise given the poor quality of that part of the Warthog. They're working on a workaround. For the moment, for the maverick slew, you can assign TDC Depress to another button and have the Warthog 'nipple' assigned to TDC in the Axis page of the controls, then press them both together.
  23. Just feel I have to chime to defend against the rather unfair criticism against Steam (never though I'd be saying that...) Steam users, such as myself) get the Open Beta the exact same day as the standalone users, so there's that myth dispelled. As for this "many of the DLC missions don't support Steam" nonsense, I have no idea what that's all about. As far as I'm aware, the paid DLC for standalone and Steam is exactly the same and will play exactly the same way. It simply comes down to choice, but as said before it is an important one as purchases can't be interchanged between the versions once made. I personally like just having all my games gathered together in a nice neat pile :-)
  24. Probably worth pointing out for the OP that the AI is in no way a realistic indicator of an aircraft's combat capabilities. It essentially has total situational awareness. Try evading an AI by flying through valleys and you will fail pretty much every time as they always know where you are, try it against other players in MP and you have a much, much better chance. I'm fairly sure ED stated at some point that when they get around to doing the AI revamp they'll attempt to make it more 'human'.. give it more realistic response times, etc.
  25. I just got back to the Hornet for the first time in a while tonight to try out the Mavericks, and yeah... just not happening with the Warthog 'nipple' as the TDC. It goes in every direction I don't want it to, except left. It never goes left. And yet, as others said, I can slew the radar without issue. I tried using the coolie hat beside it as the TDC movement, while keeping the nipple as 'TDC depress', and then nothing worked! And I can't get anything to do move the TDC now... which is really weird... Hopefully ED are aware of this, I imagine quite a few of us have Warthogs!
