  1. Why do you think the British version has no gun? A quick Google gave me the RAF website which says it has a 27mm Mauser cannon and a further result showing the cannon being used in Syria in 2016.
  2. Really disagree... I can't see the point in spending resources to build an asset in the game for one country (France) so it can be used exclusively by another country (the US). It just seems weird. It's like the other comment proposing Harriers taking off from the Queen Elizabeth and Tomcats from the CDG. It is just a waste of time and borderline anachronous (or completely in the case of Harriers on the QE). No carriers without suitable accompanying aircraft as far as I'm concerned.
  3. Completely agree with that. It would also make it so much easier to place infantry (and also armoured groups) in the mission editor if the came as preset squads, as you say.
  4. My first half an hour with it was a nightmare and I was convinced it was the most unbalanced, jittery thing ever designed. And yet... a bit more practice, understanding how it works and not trying to fly it like the Ka-50 - now I think it's very stable indeed. With the Huey or Mi-8 I was never able to accurately use the guns or rockets reliably, yet with the Hind I can nail targets with rockets at 250kph in a turn. It is interesting how everyone is having different experiences.
  5. HE ammo combined with an updated splash damage system = nightmare potion for all infantry.
  6. I would congratulate whoever was responsible for the reflections in the Hind. Easily the best and most realistic of any module. Also the canopy in general with its scratches is just wonderfully done.
  7. Oh! This kept happening to me too during the Operation Persian Freedom campaign. Funnily enough, the only time it's happened to me is also after long missions so making a track may be tough. But maybe the mission length is somehow a factor in it? It usually happened a matter of feet from the runway in my case, about to make a lovely touch down then it would suddenly just float. I wouldn't even say pitch up, it just sorted of started of floating, as if someone had pumped it full of helium. Sort of glad to see I'm not the only one.
  8. The runway start option in the ME at this (new?) base seems to start you in the middle of the grass off the side of the runway.
  9. Completely agree with that! But also agree that learning to fly this beast is already hugely rewarding. I was struggling a lot yesterday, then today made the small adjustment of setting the curves to 20 or so - HUGE difference for me. Much less twitchy below translational lift speeds. I imagine further tweaking of the axes should help even more.
  10. I was wondering if I may need to adjust the curves... it seems crazy sensitive before reaching translational lift speeds. I'll give it a try without the AP aids then and see if I can't figure her out. It's probably just a case of practice, practice really. My first attempts at the Huey years ago were also disastrous if I recall... although at least it didn't tip over quite so much on take-off! I've broken so many rotors already....
  11. I'm finding this to be the most difficult to fly of all the DCS modules I have, rotary or otherwise. The last thing I was flying was the Ka-50, so maybe I'm stuck in a bad habit here, so can anyone clarify this for me: In the Ka-50, you generally hold the trimmer down, fly into a stable position then release the trimmer - and everything is smooth and normal. Is the trimmer the same function-wise with the Hind? Should I hold it down while maneuvering then release? Or am I doing this completely wrong? At the moment I'm finding it so much more jittery and unbalanced than I was expecting of a relatively heavy helo, and after seeing videos of others flying so smoothly, I must be doing something wrong.
  12. This is an extremely irritating issue, for me anyway. I use TrackIR (regardless if it is related) and what I find is that it doesn't seem to happen as much if I move my head laterally or vertically - it's only whenever I cock my head to one side or the other that it becomes really noticeable. Probably why it's happening to people without TrackIR while they're banking the aircraft. I really hope as much priority is given to this as to the VR problem, because it is seriously immersion-breaking to see the clouds jump about all the time.
  13. I would say that the initial communication should be "Taxi to and hold short of runway 21 left (via taxiway ____)." I don't think any ATC would ever just say "Go to the runway and take off when you like".
  14. The Chinese carriers I can sort of understand, as making a FC3-level J-15 wouldn't be too much of an ask. But the other non-US ones? No... What would fly off the Queen Elizabeth class? Or the French carriers? The F-35 and Rafale simply aren't going to happen. Haven't heard of the Etendard being made either. I may be mis-remembering, but isn't the Invincible being done by Razbam as part of their South Atlantic thing? Not sure if that's just an AI asset though. In general, I think the US carriers are enough, after that a fully fleshed out Kuznetsov and full fidelity Su-33, then the Chinese carriers. Not to mention the WWII US and IJN carriers that are supposedly in the works.
  15. I'd actually second that. It can be seriously frustrating with TrackIr and you're desperately trying to keep your head still enough to put the cursor over the thing. Especially in a combat scenario. Nice, big hit-boxes where possible please!
  16. I haven't a clue what's going on with the complaining about mission 2. I don't think I encountered a single bug throughout this. Waypoints are not a bug. The Ka-50 can only store, what? 5 or 6 waypoints? I'm not sure what else you need in Mission 2 - you have an IP and you have the target location marked on the ABRIS. Any more and it's just babysitting. As for target spotting in mission 2... you're given clear target locations in the briefing images, you're even given the precise locations of the SAMs!! You should never be getting within range of anything lethal in that mission and have more than enough missiles to destroy everything without relying on allied flights. The voice-acting definitely isn't great, but then this isn't a "story" campaign and is clearly meant for the challenge. I would agree that the price should, probably, be a bit lower as it is a bit odd paying almost the same price for something like Raven One as for this.
  17. Right now it's fair to say we only have the bare bones of a ground force... There are so very many things I'd love to see, not just in terms of units but also the structures they inhabit: - sandbag fortifications - the kind you'd see making up an ISAF base in Afghanistan - watchtowers (and varieties of them) that actually have people inside and don't magically fire - MG bunkers - any other alternative to the "barracks armed" or "house armed" - trenches and foxholes - many more military buildings in general And that's before you even get into ground unit variety and the AI associated with them (the day they learn to take cover... that is the day). There's a lot of work to do, but I'm sure they'll get there eventually.
  18. I would point out though as far as Exocet's idea is concerned - If you do that for a campaign mission, I don't think it will count as a mission success, so you'd just be wasting your time if you wanted to progress the campaign. Also... the chances of the track being accurate and not developing an issue is pretty slim.
  19. Great campaign so far Armen, very challenging at times! I've only had one real issue so far and it's with mission 9. First of all, the Mi-28s are just flying straight into the enemy and being bombarded with Stingers and AAA when they could very easily deal with the armour from a stand-off range. Secondly, the Mi-28s become distracted by the two helipads from the previous mission and fly over and start attacking them. Maybe switch them from blue to red? Also... it's not a bug or anything. But I think this mission is essentially impossible to complete the first time. Because you have no idea 10 Leopards are about to turn up you will probably use all your Vikhrs killing the armour outside the town. And then the Mi-28 issue becomes the problem... because they either are shot down by all the Stingers or away attacking the helipads when the Leopards come along. A final thing is that even though I've destroyed all the Leopards, I get a voiceover to "attack more" - but there's nothing left to attack. Maybe make that voiceover conditional on there being some Leopards remaining? ** for anyone trying this mission and failing - I recommend just leaving the initial armour alone and letting the Iranian T-72s destroy them, then flying to the side of the town and getting ready to destroy the Leopards side-on. A bit game-y but it's the only way.
  20. After 8 missions I have not had any wingmen thus far. The point of the campaign is that you're deployed as a single Ka-50 in a small group of a few helicopters and fixed-wing, so I can't imagine there will be a wingman in the rest of the missions either. There are other flights, but you have no control over them and so far they've all done exactly what they're meant to do.
  21. I'm onto mission 8 at this point and there have been a few rather challenging missions so far, and it is well made. Haven't encountered a single bug so far, which is an odd experience for a newly released DCS campaign! It's not like 'Raven One-style' dialogue heavy or emphasis on story, but I think it's a very good campaign for testing out your abilities with fairly challenging missions. The last mission was pretty cool... without spoiling anything, sneaking up to a certain advanced SAM through valleys took a few attempts!
  22. Hmm... Always seems to work for me and I'm about 6 missions in. Are you switching on the AC generators? I think that's considered like a 'trigger' to know if you've properly started up or not.
  23. This is affecting me too. Never had any crashes before, now every time I load a mission the second time. Oh well, I've sent my crash reports. One can only hope a hotfix for this is their top priority!
  24. I'm personally saving up for the whole Virpil set. I've had a TM Warthog for about 3 years now and the stick has just become pretty annoying at this point. The throttle is still great, mind you. I'd say if you can afford a stick from the premium guys like VKB or Virpil then go for one of them, without a doubt. The only way I'd recommend a Warthog stick is if you were an A-10C nut who just wanted that grip. Unfortunately I don't think that grip can be bought separately like the TM Hornet grip can. When I say 'grip', by the way, it's because you could buy a TM Hornet grip and plug it into a Virpil/VKB base. As for rudders... I think it depends what you want to fly. If you're into warbirds and helos then a good rudder is a good idea. I've used the cheap but effective Thrustmaster T-Flight pedals for years now, but saving for MFG Crosswinds as I'd like more precision for helos (Apache!!). Anyway, long story short... it depends on your budget and what you want to fly

    Thankyou

Yeah I'd also say job very well done to the ED team. I started up an 'Overcast 4' over the Persian Gulf, and to be honest I wasn't expecting a huge reaction, but wow... it became immediately apparent just how much this is going to change tactical gameplay, especially once the AI has line of sight limitations. Not to mention how beautiful it is! Flying over a properly cloudy land is a totally different experience. I sort of understand what it must be like to be a pilot in the RAF now, haha. Cloud, cloud and more cloud. Even more than that, it's going to add a lot more variety for 3rd party campaign designers in terms of how the weather plays a part in their missions. Someone commented on here recently how the weather updates were "just a cosmetic thing". They couldn't have been more wrong.
