I thought about that, which is why I overflew him and tried but still got nothing... also doesn't explain why he responds at beginning of mission if you take off early, but then doesn't respond later. Well, nevermind, in my eyes it's still campaign 'complete', haha.

Hey Baltic Dragon, I'm wondering if the update today has maybe caused an issue with this again? Or maybe it's just me... I was trying this mission the day before and I could contact JTAC fine, after the update I can't anymore. On Green channel 3 and definitely using VHF (even tried UHF just in case), well within range (at waypoint 4 and even tried when directly overhead of JTAC). Thanks! Edit: Yes, I've tried 3 times now.. there definitely is an issue, or I'm being very stupid. But I've checked - the Stryker is still alive when I'm trying to contact. He is set to Invisible in the mission and has the right frequency... Not sure what's going on! Edit 2: So... I tried just immediately taking off, not bothering with INS or anything, climbed up a bit and immediately contacted Axeman before I even got to Waypoint 1. He responded. So I started up the mission again and proceeded as normal, when prompted I tried to contact him. No response. Flew over him. No response. I'm absolutely perplexed... Haha!

Ironically.. there's no evidence that Churchill ever said that quote either ;-) Moral of the story: Never trust anyone! :-D

A letter from several Chinese DCS palyers - 19 August 2019
LooseSeal replied to Eagle sur Pekin's topic in Chit-Chat
I was furiously searching for a way around this... but it's absolutely true. Just a quick search on there throws up all sorts of copyrighted music, particularly F-14 walkman stuff, it seems. So yeah.. it isn't going to make you popular, but you're right - that kind of stuff should, technically, be removed if there were to be consistency. -
Excellent video of Super Hornet from start up to launch
LooseSeal replied to EAF602 Red's topic in Military and Aviation
Well, he did say he's been reading tins tonight... as for how many tins, we can only speculate :-D -
I'd say the easy answer to that is... a lot more people are going to purchase a Hornet or Viper than something like an S-3 or E-2. Especially given the complexity of the systems involved in those aircraft and the time and resources their development would require, it's just economics. We all have a tonne of aircraft we'd love to see (Tornado and Apache for me!) but it's a commercial decision for ED at the end of the day. The 18 and 16 have been very solid choices I'd say.

Oh man... last year I built a 1/32 scale F-16CJ and tried to do my best to make it as accurate as possible with correct research. Trying to figure out the colour of that radome took a while... In the end, after consulting some rather obsessed fellows over at F-16.net and other sites, it seems they're all painted in the same tone to begin with, which is a shade of grey (can't remember the 'FS' number). And then the fading and weathering begins. But, and I don't know if this is the same with all fighters (?), the cone was never repainted, due to the sensitivity of the radar equipment. I guess that it'll explain the huge variation you find in tones of aircraft based in different regions and subject to different forces of natures.

Somewhere out there the original artists for those old models is reading this and feeling very pleased with themselves... I think we can assume the new version will be a whole lot more detailed! And probably not mistakenly slipped into the game pre-release, haha

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, and I'm sure others will be along and be more knowledgeable... but I'd personally not have Civilian Traffic at High. I usually just have it off entirely, because it does affect performance and, just for me, brings very little to the experience.

The 'Georgian Oil War' campaign is more of a glorified series of training missions. It certainly isn't intended to be realistic in any way, shape or form. Just think of it as a big target range of sorts. I've never even completed it because it simply gets so, so repetitive. I do hope they deal with this correctly when they eventually release the single-player dynamic campaign, though. It would be a tad silly for A-10 flyers to be thrust into a war where the enemy still has a sizeable fighter force and SAM capabilities. Maybe each module could have a different starting context for the campaign and different end goals?

Ooh.. is this for Santa!? (Sorry, couldn't resist) But really... we all want these things. The graphics are being done, but it takes time...

Ah well... I'll try my best! I wonder why the AI is doing it, though... I've never noticed the anti-collision lights being kept on before :-S
-
This is most likely a DCS problem, but I've only seen it happen in this campaign, so I'm not sure. I've just done missions 2 and 3, requiring cold starts, and it would seem that the AI wingmen do not switch off their anti-collision lights after take-off. In any normal world i'd be able to ignore it, but unfortunately given the broken lighting situation in DCS... it's really annoying having your cockpit being lit up by flashing lights as your wingmen fly in formation. Hopefully ED get around to fixing the lights soon, because it really is just silly at this point, but is there any way you could make the AI switch their lights off.. or never switch them on??

So I started up the Tomcat today, having not played for about 2 updates and something seems to have gone wrong... not sure if it's DCS or my Warthog, though. I also tried the Hornet and got the exact same problem... which basically means I can't play at the moment and have no idea how to fix this. :helpsmilie: When pitching up or down the stick immediately comes back to centre (autopilot is off), but it doesn't happen with roll. The throttle similarly keeps returning to the centre, no matter whether I put it to idle or afterburner. I've attached a track where you can see the stick and throttle fighting my inputs. The strange thing is that the stick/throttle movements are being detected correctly when I go to 'axis tune' in the controls menu. It only seems to become a problem in the game itself. Any help would be appreciated as I'm pretty much stuck until this is fixed... strangehornetpitch.trk

March about to come and go... It is a bit weird that it's taken this long to put it out on Steam. It's almost as if they don't want my money! :-D

I can only imagine the developer's meeting after they read this thread... (prepare for immense sarcasm) "So there's been a suggestion on the forums, and I can't believe we hadn't thought of this before... it's pretty revolutionary, maybe a bit controversial. But - what if... what if we didn't have bugs in our Open Beta Early Access releases? Crazy! I know! But maybe it's something we, with all our experience and expertise in this field, should have thought of before." It is staggering that this thread is not a troll post given the incredible, provocatively obvious nature of the title. I sometimes wonder what resources people think ED realistically have available to them... some of the expectations are just a bit over the top.

ED, your crash reporting tool isn't launching when DCS crashed
LooseSeal replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS 2.9
It only appears for me when the whole program crashes to desktop. Unfortunately, most of the problems I have with DCS are freezes when exiting missions, so no crash report tool. So it's pretty much useless unless they work out how to make it launch when the program hangs, not just crashes! -
So... this has been a totally foreign concept to me so far, and neither the manual nor the training missions do a great job of simplifying it. I guess my main problem seems to be the AUTO function and also the relationship between the yellow emergency lever beside the throttle, and the wing sweep indicator on the front console. Also, the terminology - what on earth is a spider detent?? The manual talks about it but never actually says what it is... Whenever I do my own startup, I don't seem to be able to get the wings into AUTO mode (ie; they move without my input), and yet, when I do the "Basics Shore-based take-off" training mission (and everything is already set up for me) when I select AUTO the wings automatically move. Is it something to do with the position of the yellow handle?? I put it at 20 degrees, push it down then close the cover. But still I can't get AUTO to work... It would be great if one of the Youtube guys could make a tutorial video about this topic!! :-D

I don't think you have to give Jester an order just to close the menu..? Just (if you have Trackir) aim in the center, ie: not any of the radial options, and click the Jester button again and it closes. My gripe at the moment is the position of 'abort start-up' right beside some of the contextual options during assisted start-up. Quite a few times now I've accidentally aborted in the middle of a start-up.

Hi guys, So I've finally got a new monitor (my old, emphasis on old, was truly awful), a BenQ GC2870H 28" using HDMI connection. Not incredible, but seemingly fine for my price range. Problem is... I've started up DCS, with TrackIR, and there just seems to be this horrible blurriness on details inside the cockpit when moving my head. Dark shadowy areas or black areas in particular leave a momentary purple trail behind for a split second. Not sure if I'm being clear... but it's really disorientating and I absolutely cannot use TrackIR like this or I'll get a migraine! Is this normal..? A problem I can fix? Or time to return the monitor?

Hi Baltic Dragon, is there any word on what's happening with the Steam release? It seems to be taking quite a long time... very eager to get stuck into this campaign! :-D

Thank you Naquaii! Is that also true of the fact that the instructor tells you to wait for Jester to tell you he's ready to start the engines? Does that only refer to human RIOs? Because he never tells me anything.. That's my main issue. I'm sitting waiting for a response that never comes.. haha. Edit: Never mind! You already answered my question! Thanks again!
-
Yeah, I tried that. He says something like 'ready for start-up' and there's a minute of furious switch-flipping, but I don't get any new options in the dialogue wheel. It's just a bit frustrating as I love immediately learning cold starts for new modules.
-
This entirely could just be me... but I simply cannot get this to progress, for a couple of reasons. After switching to 'hot mic', you're told to ask Jester for non-assisted start-up, but not to respond yet to his request to arm the ejection seat. However, the instructions then go on to tell you to coordinate with Jester in the 'master test' section, but that isn't possible because he's still waiting for you to arm the seat. The big problem though is I am eventually told to wait for Jester to say he's ready to start the engines, but this never seems to happen and the only dialogue option I have for him is to 'abort start'. Anyone else having problems? Or as expected am I just finding a way to make this difficult for myself?

I don't believe you've understood his post correctly.
