Thanks Sage, I am gonna give it a try. Mainly thought of it for radio commands, but other things like turning labels off would be handy too.

I have to admit, I did not know the rift had a mic built into it. I hadn't even looked. Set it as default and will give it a go, the less cables the better!
-
For Rift owners that are using Voice Attack and / or Vaicom....what are you using for a microphone that works with the Rift? And.... I have never used either of these but am thinking about trying it to make life in VR better, especially for radio commands. I am still trying to work out what does what and what I need...looks like Viacom is a add-on that has most of the commands already set up? Do I need that? How many people use Voice Attack without Viacom? Does it work well? I watched a video about setting up Voice Attack with Auto Hotkey and Viacom...looks like a pain in the butt??

My system ran 1.5 great, and choked on 2.0. The issue was video memory. What video card do you have?
-
You will be amazed at the immersion....prepare to find yourself reaching our for switches and trying to rest you arm on the cockpit rail! And maybe being a little airsick, at first! The other day I finally flew my first full mission, from cold start to landing and shut down, without having to remove the goggles at all. It was pretty cool. Some very recent upgrades (kneeboard, mouse key bindings) made that possible.....the implementation of VR is still far from perfect, but it is improving quickly.

Me too, I had to upgrade to a 4 GB video card to run DCS 2.0 even in 2D.

The A-10 'Warthog' just got a little more badass
Mad Dog 7.62 replied to Call911's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
With all the emphasis on collateral damage control, I can see this being widely adopted. It sure would be nice to have a MAJOR weapons update for the Hawg. There are a lot of issues with the effectiveness of many of the weapons that could stand to be corrected. I believe Wags said the A-10C is STILL the best selling module for DCS, so it would behoove ED to keep it fresh. -
It would be cool, especially with the release of NTTR, to have mobile SCUD launchers to recreate the SCUD hunts of the gulf war, and in general, a wider variety of ground units would be nice.

Yes, if you could just pop up the radio menu and click on the commands that would be perfect.

Now that's a good idea!

I flew my first mission in VR last night where I managed to fly the whole mission, from ramp start to shut down, in the VR goggles. Two things made it possible....the mapping of mouse buttons to my HOTAS and the ability to have my custom kneeboard in the VR cockpit. Very cool experience, of course the shortfalls of VR are still there, but this is gonna be so cool when we have hardware that can handle higher resolution displays!! Also, I had some issues with the bino switch in VR, having to hold it down. I mapped that to one of the fuel flow toggle switches on my Warthog throttle (I virtually never use those) and now when I throw the toggle my view stays zoomed. I mapped the wheel brakes to the other one. One thing that still hard in VR is target recognition, I wonder if ED could bump up the model enlargement options a bit more to help make up for the low resolution in VR?

Anyone have one of these TM warthog covers?
Mad Dog 7.62 replied to Mtnbiker1998's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There used to be a guy on here that made them. Kind of a soft black velour? materiel, and you could get your callsign or whatever custom emboroidered on them. Very nice. -
[quote=J Oh and by the way does anyone else have the issue, that when you look rather downwards and hold your head idle for about 2 secs the marker disappears an you have to move your head a bit up again for it to reappear? It's a bit annoying... Are you doing Alt-Enter to go full screen? If you don't, the cursor will disappear when it goes out of bounds on the desktop.

Question on ripple deliverys....if I ripple off three bombs with say a 75 ft spread, the CCIP/CCRP will be on the center bomb, correct? Or is it the first bomb? What about two bombs? Will they hit on either side of the CCIP pipper?

I will answer my own question......YES IT WORKS!!! I decided to mess with it again, it downloaded and update, and now it works!! I have my checklist in my VR cockpit!! Hoooray!!! Thank you Alaskan Grizzly!!!!
-
After a lack of success in that past, I just tried Alaska Grizzly's Kneeboard Builder again. (You can find it in the mods and apps forum) When I loaded it, it applied an update and....viola! It worked perfectly in 2.03!! I can know have my startup checklist in the VR cockpit, and I will be adding other things as well!
-
You have to bind a control to it in the UI Layer on the controls menu. That's also where you bind mouse keys to your controller.
-
Well I finally got a chance to try Open Alpha 2.0 with the new VR improvements. (2.03xx?) The ability to assign the mouse clicks to my controller is NICE! I kinda wish the zoom view was a toggle rather than a hold. But the next thing I need in VR is a way to see my checklists for startup etc. The kneeboard is there now, but paging through the manual is not good. The last I knew the kneeboard builder utility by Alaskan Grizzly was not working reliably and not at all in the open alpha. Any ideas, or know if there are any plans in the works?
-
Is this working in 2.03 at all?
-
Yes, it is! Thanks. I am running only 2.0 so I hadn't seen it in 1.5. Thanks!
-
I just installed the 2.03 update, and the VR tab has the pixel density slider, but where are the bindings to use a joystick key for a mouse click, the bino view, etc? Also do kneeboards work in VR now?
-
This sums it up.

I figured it would not be long before someone came out with something with more standoff for glasses wearers.
-
You have pretty close to the same setup I do, and I get respectable frame rates with midrange settings in VR. The load is on the GPU, not the CPU.

I can read the HUD and MFD's quite well, and most of the instruments and switches on the consoles. The UFC is clear, and the CDU is acceptable though not perfect.
