  1. What is the current state of ASW? I know several months ago you had to do a registry edit and use the keyboard to turn it off and on. Has that changed? Is the edit still necessary, and is it still turned off and on manually?
  2. This is still a problem!!!
  3. Same here.
  4. Its too bad this module seems to be needing some attention. With Normandy on the horizon, this would be a must purchase if it were up to par.
  5. This is gonna be a blast! Panther, meet the Black Shark!! Tiger, I would like to introduce you to....the Warthog!! LOL. Those will be fun, but this should seriously help out ED with sales of the WWII era birds. I have the Mustang but haven't bought the others.....yet.
  6. I don't have a problem with the way ED chose to sell this. You have a choice, not everyone is going to buy the map for WWII uses. We REALLY need to get to a unified version though, this requires 2.0 which pushes more people to double installs, or away from the Black Sea map.....
  7. Sorry if this has been asked, but will the Viggen have an English cockpit option?
  8. I am quite well aware of that. I have been around since the Flanker days, up through Black Shark and the original A-10C Nevada debacle, and on to the current days. And I am well aware of the "it'll be done when its done" philosophy. So what was proposed to be out by the end of 2016? DCS 2.5, the F/A-18, the Normandy map, and a CVN if I recall correctly. I realize ED has a lot of irons in the fire, but when you build a house you don't put the roof on before you build the foundation. Right now we have a lot of people running DCS 2 only, others running 1.5, some running both....and I appreciate they are trying to give us a better product with things like the upgrades to the Nevada map.....but the current state of multiple, incompatible versions is a mess. Imagine you are a newcomer to DCS World....how confusing and frustrating would all this be?
  9. I know I for one, am not in a rush to buy WWII modules without a WWII map and appropriate ground and AI units. And a WWII map does us no good without 2.5. So much ED needs to get done......
  10. I'm not really seeing the reason for focusing on the Normandy map before the release of 2.5, as there wont be any way to use it.
  11. Brakes work much better in DCS if they are bound to an axis. I use the rotary next to the right throttle on the TM Warthog. MD
  12. What everyone else said. Its painful to see the cockpit in 2D after flying in VR. Head tracking in VR is amazing and much better than TIR. I only use 2D for mission editing and testing. That said, VR is first gen right now. I suspect it will get even better in the next year or two, so the question is....wait or jump in now? Only you can answer that.
  13. I just did the Oculus 1.8 runtime update, and things seem clearer to me? Am I imagining it?
  14. I just read a book called Viper Pilot, by a guy who flew F-16CJs in Iraq, and he talked about how much better the H was than the earlier variants. Crystal clear seeker picture and easier to lock.
  15. It must depend on the system, I can start DCS without Oculus running first and it is fine.
  16. Same in the 2.0 Open Alpha. Good question.
  17. Wow I haven't flown the Shark much in a while, but I think I remember that the sim will by default set if for whatever is loaded on the outer pylons?
  18. Huh? I haven't heard about this....
  19. In reference to the original question though...TrackIR is very helpful, but it does have its issues as well. I really disliked that your eyes have to swivel around and point in a different direction than your head to keep the monitor in view. If you're looking at say the radios on the left console in the A-10, your head is pointed that way but your eyes are trying to stay focused on the monitor which is up and to the right......very uncomfortable. This is not a problem in VR, and the tracking in VR is MUCH better than TrackIR. You can turn completely around, lean, rotate, do anything you want and the tracking is perfect. VR headsets have a constellation of emitters all the way around the headset while TrackIR uses three, all facing one direction. No comparison. The downside of VR at this stage is of course resolution, but it is livable, and I am sure it will get better in the near future. MD
  20. Yep, once you've flown in VR you cant go back. It is much much more immersive. I do mission editing on the monitor, but that's it.
  21. I'd sure like to fly this but I am currently stuck in Nevada as I only have 2.0 loaded on my system. Sigh. Someday soon maybe.
  22. Another good option might be to spend $10 for Voice Attack. You can map most anything to it. You're still gonna need a HOTAS of some kind, but VA makes it possible to do a lot more and save hunting for key combos on the keyboard or mapping things to stick buttons.
  23. Dunno, I am only running 2.0, but I am not really seeing the effect of the pixel density slider. When I did the same thing with the de-bug tool it seemed hit and miss too, sometimes it made the pit clearer and other times it didn't.
  24. Corbett, it doesn't seem too difficult to get it to work. Download and install, do the recommended mic check to make sure the mic is working properly, do the recommended voice training so the computer recognizes your voice, make sure you run it as an administrator, and it seems to work fine. I am still working on the best way to organize the commands to work with the DCS comms menu tree.
