  1. Hello gentlemen I recently watched a lenghty video about the Constant Peg usaf program to test mig 17, 21 and 23 (could be one of those Gaillard Peck youtube presentation). The retired american pilot said (not exact quote) : "The mig 17 and 21 were great fighters and could pose a real threat to any allied counterpart of their time. The mig 23 wasnt really dangerous as it could barely turn" Here's my genuine question from someone who doesn't know much about the Mig 23: I think most players enjoy DCS for the dogfighting part of the game so what is drawing so many people (at least in this thread) to this aircraft ? Did it have great BVR capability ? High thrust/weight ratio ? I'm a bit skeptical about its usefulness in a multiplayer environment if it's modeled accurately. Cheers
  2. What are the differences in training between a pilot who is planned to be carrier qualified and one who is not (like the US Navy Reserve) ? How does the fact you're flying a single engine jet into combat affect the mission planning and mission execution vs someone who would go there in a twin engine F-18/F-15 ? (i.e engine troubles peace of mind in a twin) In the airline career: What airmanship trait do you wish your pure civilian colleagues had that most seem to lack compared to a military trained guy ? (if any) Or, in different words : what has been taught to you in the military that makes you a better airline pilot and that the pure civilian pipeline doesnt emphasize enough ? Most importantly : when do you order that blue Corvette C8 with cream interior ? :smilewink:
  3. 320 $ here ! Who wants to continue this nonsense ?
  4. Hey everyone, I wonder if after a few months/years after the supercarrier release, ED would be able to create a less detailed spin-off of that module for land based aircraft. The crew chief marshalling you in/out of the apron spot, flight controls check and a couple ground crew removing pins and chocks. As was said previously, it would had some life on the airport apron.
  5. Is the JF-17 still coming out next week ? I haven't seen a single line mentioning it nor some sort of teaser/launch video. Even if it's a 3rd party module, ED usually helped them launch their products. I remember seeing Heatblur products being put into the light more than that. (and maybe Razbam av-8b too). Maybe it's Deka's plan to play it lowkey but in any case, it's weird it's this quiet before a launch.
  6. HALF of ED staff is already allocated to core game features while the other half is spread out on all the modules (WWII and modern, carrier, assets etc). How much more of that 50% would you like to see working on the core components ? 75% core and 25% modules ? 90/10 ? People dont realize a dynamic campaign, weather system or vulkan stuff aren't done in 18 months, especially for a relatively small team like ED. People also need to understand that if one coder works for 8 months on a feature, 8 coders wont take a month to complete it.
  7. Hello guys, I stumbled upon the buyers' list and saw Jabbers. Is he the DCS youtuber ? I haven't found a video mentioning the PointCtrl on his chanel. Anyone knows if he tested them ? The FCUs look very promising for VR, a review from Jabbers could help boost the sales. Keep up the good work Miles !
  8. Let's see, Hammer Profile created in november 2019 so less than 9 days ago. 5 posts, all of them in his Xtal thread. Claims he has never done any video but created one with 'digital distortion' effects, in a studio like environment with a perfectly clean white background. Moving/sliding motion on a company branded stand. Teases with a 20 seconds useless 'initial review' video Encourages you to like/subscribe like a good internet PR person. Yup... seems legit'... totally not a commercial or someone paid to do so :music_whistling:
  9. Before people ask : Dissimilar Air Combat Training = when 2 guys fight flying a different aircraft. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissimilar_air_combat_training
  10. And this man lived through 2 world wars... We can have lightning fast R&D within 50 years again but i doubt you'd agree to have half your family killed in the process :no_sad:
  11. Hi A clockwise 'snap-twist' of the forearm is a left click. A counterclockwise snap twist is a right click (or the other way around but you get the idea). He mentions you have to exagerate your movement a bit so the input is registered. For the twisting knobs like the altimeter setting or lighting knob, it looks like its a slow forearm twist.
  12. Hey guys, I'm quite pleasantly surprised by the proportion of professionnal pilots flying in DCS. I thought the idea would be "I do that all day, the last thing i want when i get home is to fly another plane..." Although I'd imagine flying a B 737/A 320 for real and goofing around at 100" strafing trucks tickles 2 very different parts of the brain ;)
  13. Hey guys, Since VR is getting more and more popular, i thought I'd ask a few questions before I venture into this simming experience. My worries are about having a screen an inch away from your eyes for (possibly) hours at a time : 1. Have you ever experienced any 'symptom' after using your VR headset ? For example headache, sore eyes, dry eyes or whatever else. I'm not talking about obvious pain that would be caused by a headset squeezing your face or a bad strap. 2. Have you ever mentionned your VR hobby to your family doctor or eye doctor and what were his/her inputs on that matter ? I can't find anything on google saying VR is a no-go but i cant find anything saying it's totally consequences-free either. P.S. Regular tv/pc/tablet screens are known to be harmful to children development. Something about the blue light emitted, their eyes and brain. So I'd keep kids (0-15yo) away from the headset. Just my 2 cents. Cheers
  14. Hi, The 4x4 mfds dont seem to have been swapped for bigger or smaller screens. A couple other videos of various models. All show a consistent "knee picture" For comparison, here is how close to the eye the legacy hornet screens are
  15. Throughout this video, you can see several snapshots of how far back the mfds are and their size relative to a human knee. This pilot seems to be well over 6 ft though. We'll need better VR headsets than for the Hornet to read those :D Cheers
  16. Congrats ! I think DCS will be the sim that will get me into choppers (once Im VR equipped) !
  17. Bringing this up so more people can see it and vote. A higher number of voters will create more meaningful results :smilewink:
  18. Ha ! My first bird ever ! You just reminded me of my first take-off. I couldnt understand how one could control that thing in the take-off run, everything just happened in a couple seconds !
  19. Hello gentlemen (and gentlewomen) Since DCS is a hardcore sim, i have always wondered what population was attracted to this game and if a good chunk of it had a foot into aviation. Eagle dynamic did a great job giving two free planes and offering the FC3 plane as an intermediate step before the most advanced modules. I can only admire a teenager with no ties to aviation who would dive into all the systems and general concepts one must be aware of to fly some of these planes. (F-14 rio cockpit is both fantastic and terrifying to me :joystick:) Hence my poll today : My rusted brain couldnt get to make a poll directly on the forum so i created one externally. https://linkto.run/p/KND5F8OT
  20. Hello everyone, New guy here, I got to test the Rift in a non aviation game demo (Robo recall) a few days ago. While the immersion was great and the graphics looked great at arm's length, the resolution beyond that seemed awful. (rift's pixel per arc-minute is about 10 if i'm not mistaken) I understand the cockpit must look fantastic in DCS but how do you spot any bandit or vehicle on the ground with such a low resolution ?? Thanks
