  1. Definitely the textures are about a generation behind what we are use to. It's not a deal breaker for me. I saw an explanation somewhere that the artist was sick so upgraded textures will be coming later. If this is important to you, then perhaps best to wait and see what how it turns out.
  2. Zero time on the MiG-29 and only a few hours on the F-16. It seems very snappy, F-16 like. Mind you this was with a clean jet. Certainly has the potential to hold its own. I'm looking forward to Growling Sidewinder's 1v1 videos in due course.
  3. Initial impressions after 10 minutes * Superb jet. Fun to fly * I love the big MFDs - similar to my Tesla Model S * The moving map is actually usable * Fuel will be an issue. It drinks like a fish. So far so good. No show stoppers. Looking to putting it through its paces over the weekend. Congratulations to Deka!
  4. I had one session with it and the sound quality was very good. The feature has a lot of potential and I would encourage it. While SRS is good, I found that it did take a bit of work to setup. I think this is why on many open servers there is only limited use of it. Having something native would encourage the use of voice communications greatly and help with immersion. Keep up the good work. DCS just gets better and better.

  6. Not yet. Meant to be coming in December.
  7. I haven't had a chance to update it yet - is this improvement for VR only or are you also seeing a change for us 2D monitor users. Thanks.
  8. Why does every thread on this forum gets sidetracked until a discussion of the merits or otherwise of DCS' approach to early access? Wouldn't it be more productive for the community managers to be spending their time answering module specific questions such as flight model changes, TGP features, rather than having to defend or explain Early Access / Change of Plans. Which they have down countless times so far.
  9. Looking forward to more colour on this as well.
  10. Its not cheating at all. Until DCS has animated ground crew guiding you onto the launch bar this is the only way to get on the catapult.
  11. A couple of things that work for me: 1. As someone else mentioned trying holding the onspeed A0A and just fly straight and level. 2. As previously mentioned you will be constantly moving those throttles. You have to accept there is no one setting 3. The trick is to reverse the throttle once the plane starts reacting. For example if you add throttle to go up, once the jet starts moving up then return the throttle back to its original position or close to it. You are constantly doing these corrections. After a LOT of practice it sort of becomes second nature and you don't think about it as much. Keep in mind that IRL carrier pilots do around 300 practice landings before they get to try it on the boat.
  12. This is the key to NWS HI - very slow. You should just move the throttles enough to get going then back to idle.
  13. Brilliant. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge.
  14. This is probably caused by the different numbering conventions between USAF and USN. My memory is faded here but Button 1 in USN is bottom left while I thin for USAF it's top left. DCS follows the naming convention for each respective service. So if you allocate the same button 1 in the Cougar for both Hornet / Warthog it will appear 90 degrees different. I hope this helps.
  15. Very helpful summary - thank you.
  16. I have a similar approach to Mule. I keep the third one for non critical items such as checklists, fuel etc. The colour moving map is pretty useless too. If you have a spare tablet / or large screen phone, there is a great app for both android / iOS that replicates the MFD and UFC. I use this for extra "immersion" but it isn't really necessary.
  17. No real world F-16 experience but I find taxiing to be straightforward and wheel brakes are moer than adequate. The key is to slow down for corners. You can't rail around them like it's grand theft auto. :)
  18. I have no knowledge of ED's plans but given the current state of the Viper I can't see it going into Stable in the near future. If you are keen to start playing it now, I think moving to OpenBeta is the thing to do. To be honest OpenBeta is pretty "stable". From my perspective the worst that has happened is a couple of times they have overwritten the key bindings so I had to spend around 15 minutes doing it again. Any showstoppers they normally released a quick fix a couple of days later.
  19. Thanks for this mission. Looking forward to flying it this weekend!
  20. Thank you very much. This will be my weekend activities!
  21. I've been enjoying the Viper immensely since launch. Strangely, I'm getting a kick just from free flying IFR in it and doing ILS shots in different weather conditions. Kind of like an airline pilot :) The hornet I spent a lot of time around the carrier but otherwise was VFR. It's interesting how different planes reward you flying them in different ways.
  22. You made the right call here and I had plenty of fun this weekend with it. The way I see it you gave us a free option... If you think it shouldn't have been released, just don't play until you think it is ready. Which is kind of the whole point of early access.
  23. Thank you
  24. I'm loving the F-16 so far. Congratulations to ED for producing such a great model in such a short time. Thank you.
