That’s good to hear, if you’d said it was fine from the start I’d give up now haha. I’ll keep at it and hope I don’t start tasting colours. Yup, I’ll be surprised if I can teach my brain to ignore it. But it’s worth a try as the perf boost is great. The Rift S was 80hz and worked great, I really liked that headset. I’m currently trying to persuade my wife I need a QP, so far she’s not convinced. Possibly too soon after the I tried the same trick with the 4090. It’s deffo worse the brighter the scene. The Tomcats light cockpit plus the bright sky is very hard to stomach, whereas in the Apache I genuinely can’t tell it’s 60hz. Thanks chaps.

Righty, they are all in my Amazon basket ordered now except From the Cockpit which might need a bit more looking for than a quick Amazon search. Thanks very much

Nice, thanks DD_Fenrir I’ll remember to do more research before posting in future.
-
The Silver Spitfire goes on the list too, thanks @Skewgear I don’t want to derail this thread too much with my ever growing reading list.
-
I’m deffo going to get a copy then, thanks @DD_Fenrir. Scramble ends with Malta, and was written a while ago (it’s a few books squashed into one isn’t it?). How odd he say’s it’s the last time he flew a Spitfire, he must of meant in the Battle of Britain I suppose. New book to buy, woop woop! Do you have any recommendations for Mossie books? I’ve nearly finished Terror in the Starboard Seat.

First off, I totally agree that the cannons don’t sound right. I can’t even tell if there firing or not now. And what Tom Neil says in the above screen shot sounds like what I’d expect. But… That’s odd, in his book Scramble Tom Neil said he only flew the Spitfire a handful of times. First time was the 1st of June 1940 and the last time being 11th June 1940, after that it was Hurricanes. And from what he wrote the one he flew had 8 Brownings, ofc he probably fired the 20mm cannons in a Hurricane (right?). Intresting he managed to squeeze a book out of that, or am I thinking of a different Tom Neil? I remember being a bit disappointed when I read Scramble that he was not a Spitfire pilot. Silly me, it’s a great read. PS. Sorry, I obviously have too much spare time today

Yeah, that might be me too. I was curious if the people who are fine with it were from the get go, or if it takes time to get your sea legs as it were. The rock solid frame rate is so good I’m going to give it another go, though I’ve got my eye on the QP as sounds like 72mhz might be the sweet spot.

Quest Pro vs G2 Impressions - 4090/7950x3D

Good to know, thanks. I’d be happy with my G2 if 60hz didn’t make me feel like my brain is about to pop. -

Brilliant, thank you @slughead If you dip below that does the asw do a decent job (ie as good as at 90/45hz) or is it a horrible mess? -
I see a few of the VR old hands are using 60hz with the G2 now. I tried it yesterday again for about 30 mins and the performance is fantastic but the weird throbbing around the edge of the screen is really odd. I had a strange headache last night that may well be unrelated (got a cold) but it made me wonder. Did you guys just get used to it or did/do you not notice it at all? How long does it take before you don’t feel like your about to have some sort of seizure? Im hopping it’s something I could get used to, to the point I don’t even notice it, is that possible? On the plus side it works great with the Apache, dark cockpit and spinning rotor means the odd effect isn’t visible, which is nice. The Tomcat was a nightmare.

What gpu frame time is required to maintain 72hz? -
There’s a video by spudknocker where he is dogfighting a friend (he is in an F14 and his friend is in a F5) who’s dad was a Tomcat pilot. You can hear the dad talking as they dogfight and at one point you can hear him (only just) say the spotting in DCS is not good. That was “case closed” for me. I play in VR and can spot things from a distance, but find they disappear at medium range. Isn’t the issue that DCS doesn’t simulate light reflecting? I have no idea how they’d go about doing that.

I’m sorely tempted by the QP, may I ask a question or two? Im happy with how the G2 looks in the cockpit, it’s the view out the window that seems to lack clarity. Does the QP look better in this regard? From what I’ve read here it seems performance is better than the G2 (MSAA x4 with my G2 is a no no) is this the case even if you bump up the PD to match the clarity of the G2? Has anyone gone from G2 to QP and not been happy (After maximum tinkering)? It all sounds like an upgrade to me though I’m a little concerned I’ll be disappointed if it’s a noticeable drop in clarity. I was going to get a new HOTAS as my next DCS cash dump, but this thread makes me think I’ll hang onto my Warthog for a bit longer and get a QP instead. -
That made me laugh haha. My first flight on the map I spawned over London and did what I do irl if I’m in London, I found Victoria station ASAP and headed south for Brighton with haste. I wish we had a PWCG for DCS
-
Indeed, I don’t know what they did with the ones in Brighton and Worthing, I’ll have to look it up. I haven’t been to the Dorset side of the map yet, or France for that matter, I’ve just been tooling around Sussex and thoroughly enjoying it.
-
In the spirit of “Oh I do like to be beside the sea side” will we be seeing the addition of piers on the south coast of England? There useful things for telling where you are. Brighton needs 2 (West Pier & Palace Pier) Worthing, Eastbourne and Hastings need one each. Im sure there’s more. Another thing that springs to mind is the Cathedrals, they’re all over the place! I’m guessing they’re supposed to be churches (on roids?) Chichester does need a Cathedral btw Finally is it likely the ground colours will get another pass? They are way off. Besides the above (apart from the colours) minor quibbles I love this new map, flying over home territory in a Spitfire is fantastic, Thank you.

Looks like I need to find a grand from somewhere haha -
Thanks for the suggestions @motoadve, I do have the Big Show but was hankering for something a bit more dynamic/open world. Ah well. My thoughts exactly, anyone got his phone number?
-
Does anyone know if anything similar exists for DCS? I’ve never had much luck with WW2 Liberation campaigns. Coming back from a break from DCS I’m having the old problem of wonderful airframes and maps but I’m not sure what to do with them. PWCG is bloody great.
-
Thank you everyone, very helpful indeed. The ground pounding sounds great but I didn’t realise it was a complicated beast. Not sure I have the time to learn it all at the moment. Oh well, but again thanks.
-
Thanks @peachmonkey From what you’ve said the P 47 sounds like a lot. Maybe I’d be better off getting the Mustang or just sticking with my RAF duo. I realise now it’s the A-G that has me interested in the Thunderbolt, but it sounds like there is maybe too much engine management involved for my tastes. Either way, thank you Peacmonkey. That has helped me
-
As the title suggests, I’m after some buying advice. I know I can do the free trial, but I like to hear from the pros. I know next to nothing about the P47 and haven’t really had an urge to buy it until today, and I’m not exactly sure why. What’s it like to fly? I have the Spit (love it) and Mossie (mixed emotions) is it a bit of a lump compared to them? I’d always thought of it as an inferior plane to the Mustang, and if I was to get a Yank warbird it’d have to be the P51. Is this just me showing my ignorance? Also do my American cousins mind being referred to as Yank? If so sorry

Slightly disappointed by Normandy 2.0 after first impression
Digitalvole replied to lwalter's topic in DCS: Normandy 2.0
My tuppence worth regarding the ground colours, I live in the south of England and have spent a fair amount of time on the South Downs. The Channel map colours look off to me, I’m no colour scientist so don’t know how to describe it, but it doesn’t look right to me at all. I’m using a Reverb G2 so that might have something to do with it. That being said the colour of the grass etc on the IL2 Normandy map look a lot more like what I’m used to and the old Normandy map sits somewhere in between. I’ve yet to try the new one . -
investigating Finally saw a warbird explode
Digitalvole replied to kennyuk77's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Wasn’t there a joke about the effectiveness of the 3.03’s that the only way to shoot down an enemy was to fill it with so many bullets it was too heavy to fly? -

Thanks, didn’t think so. I did get excited for a minute though, ah well.
