Nahemoth, I see absolutely no change when using NVCP AA, whether at 2x or 4x. I may have found my problem with framerates because of that guide though. I had set texture filtering to High Quality at some point and forgot to turn it off.

When you say SteamVR SS do you mean DCS Application SS or Custom Resolution? If not Custom Resolution, what are you setting it to; 150%, 188%? *edit* I set it to 100% and am testing from there.

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen, I'll try these before reformatting. I sent my original Index back because of overheating but the replacement is doing the same thing. I'm now wondering if I have a bad power strip as I also seem to be having intermittent USB issues recently as well. Things were really good for a long time for me which seems to be the case for all of us if you look at the drop off in posts. Now I'm back to tweaking.... great lol.

Leave on motion smoothing or it's really bad. What's happening is your frame rate is dropping below 45. The Index takes more supersampling to look good than say a Reverb that has a higher native resolution. Supersampling takes a LOT of processing power and when you're on the ground there are many more textures to process. Lastly, DCS doesn't have very good VR optimization to start with. My specs are in my Sig and I still have the same issue.

My performance has gone to crap over the last day or so. Anyone else seeing the same thing? Between the latest DCS update and 2 Steam beta releases I'm not sure where to start looking but my frame rates have gone down forcing me to reduce my settings from 138% DCS Steam App and 148% Custom Resolution to 200% custom resolution only. For a long time I could spot targets at 18 miles while at high altitude but lately it's been degrading to where I have to lean or zoom in to see the F-16 MFD's. Seriously thinking of doing a complete dance and reformatting but my buddy who has a Reverb has noticed it as well.

I've tried multiple ways to get it to work with no joy. I even bought a copy of WinZip. The new zip is a smaller file size but I would expect that since reflection textures are being altered/removed. It simply wont work for me.
-
For some reason I am unable to get it to work. When I change the name of the original zip file I have to give admin permission to do so. Not so after I add the files and regardless of whether I zip it back up or not it doesn't ask to give admin permission and DCS doesn't recognize it and all of the textures are missing. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Same here on no response from Viperpits and I've had a login there since 2005 lol. Same avatar and everything!

Your Thoughts: Is the F-16 Worth Time Investment Now, or Just Wait

Agreed. I've found workarounds for A2A, for BVR anyway and the CCIP behavior when dropping bombs seems correct to me even though it does not have FCR functionality for AG yet. Unlike the A10C when you pickle on a target the bombs won't land short/long because of elevation changes. I was expecting the type of bombing the 18 originally came out with but was pleasantly surprised to find it close to what I've been doing for the last 2 decades in the other Viper sim. I've said it before and I'll say again, I bought a bunch of F-16 parts lol. Put a better way, I bought an F-16A fresh of the assembly line in Ft. Worth TX but with some modern bits added in. For me I would have paid full price if asked to have it in VR. That said, please acknowledge the MFD's look like ass because they do. To say there is nothing wrong with them is to say they will never get better and that is unacceptable. -

Wow! Good to know.

The behavior is present regardless of the type of input. Currently I'm using my Warthog and have CW-CCW mapped to the cooly hat on the throttle. I have to lightly tap it to keep it from scaling from one end to the other. I haven't flown the Hornet since the 16 came out but I think it has the same behavior as well.

Paradigm shift my friend. If you're still flying the other Viper sim and happy with using track IR do not try VR lol. Some people still fly sims using both but I couldn't go back. Your are IN THE JET. -
From what I can tell, the INS alignment function upon cold start is now functioning properly and shows the countdown in the DED. If you want to look at something else in the DED while aligning you can, simply hit List 6 on the ICP to go back to it. I'm pretty sure that is the extent of the INS update.

I completely understand. The frustration of not hearing "LOCK" from Betty when my nose is on a bandit inside 10miles while in DF mode can be unbearable at times lol. Still, I had to see it in VR. I remember begging the different mod teams (for other Viper sim) on Frugalsworld for exportable MFD's and gauges in the wee 2000's. In 2015 I finally get them along with Helios for touchscreens. By late 2016 I'm flying with a 60" 4KUHD TV, 27" Touch screen and am only using the mouse/keyboard to hit fly. Heaven. lol And then I try DCS in VR......... shit. I have all the modern modules in DCS including FC3 but they were just place holders and time fillers until the Viper was released. Being INSIDE that pit after 20 years of seeing it on a monitor makes up for the long list of missing/incorrect features. For now anyway :D -

I bought it knowing it would be framework only and it's the only thing I fly. I flew the Viper in another sim for 20 years but once I flew in VR I was done with flying on a monitor and eagerly awaited DCS' Viper release. Having flown the Viper for 2 decades I'm not worried about negative training because I know what's wrong or missing in it's current state. I simply create new tactics to make it work until it gets fleshed out. That said, how experienced are you in the Viper? If you're brand new to it, I'd wait. -
For Aurelius and others tweaking their Reverbs

In answer to your question regarding the IPD adjustment on the Reverb. I had to send my Index back recently and decided to try the Reverb. When I read about the IPD adjustment it said it is set at 63.5mm and will adjust 8mm +-. My IPD is 58 so I'm thinking 63.5 - 8mm= 55.5mm. I would still be within 2.5mm of lowest IPD adjustment. However when I went to set it up the lowest I could get the IPD was 59. At 59 I was still cross eyed enough that it was unusable. All I know for sure is if you have an IPD of 58, it's not for you. I will say that when I closed one eye it was much clearer than the Index lol. I've now tried out the S, Pimax 5K+, Reverb, CV1, Odyssey and Index. I'm convinced that if your IPD is out of the norm more than a few millimeters, software IPD adjustments won't fix it. -
You're right, the Rift S does have a slightly lower resolution. I don't know the technicalities but the Rift S has a sweet spot where everything is very clear but when you move your eyes it's goes blurry. The Index doesn't have a super clear center but is generally clear almost edge to edge. You'd need to ask someone more informed than me. My previous explanation is correct though regarding the Index power needs. It takes higher amount of supersampling to get really clear.
-
The problem is actual pixels. Reverb and Rift S have more native than the Index and do not require much supersampling whether it be Pixel Density in DCS, DCS application supersampling in SteamVR or cranking up custom resolution in the SteamVR video tab. The Index has a lower pixel count/resolution natively requiring us to crank up one of the above or a combination of 2. Example: I either use Custom resolution in SteamVR at 204% and the other 2 at 100%. Or, DCS application at 138% and SteamVR custom resolution at 148%. Supersampling is the ass kicker of the Index. It is not as clear as the S or the Reverb in the sweet spot. It does however have a mechanical IPD adjustment for guys like me and a wider FOV and the sweet spot while not as clear is most of the FOV. Simply put, having to use SS is what makes the Index a resource hog.

If you are referring to the fact that the antenna goes up and down extremely fast when moved off center, it's not a Cougar antenna pot issue. It's and implementation issue. The axis for antenna elevation should be one to one. In the real jet, if the antenna knob is in the center, your antenna is in the center. As you move your antenna knob up and down the radar antenna moves up or down and stops in the position where you stoped moving the knob. Right now it is not modeled correctly as an "absolute axis" I believe it's called and is a known issue. If I misread the initial post disregard my response. I have the TQS and TUSBA as well and it happens to me. What I've done is lower the Y saturation and increase curve to at least 30. Regardless of these changes, you'll need to move the knob back to center to stop it from moving. This same behavior will happen if you set the Ant Elev to the Lever on a Warthog.

Agreed. I've been searching a couple months now for a double gang, center detent, with pushbutton 50K potentiometer. I'm also working on other designs to arrive at the same function. I'm not using the Cougar design but the actual grip design which brings its own complications, especially for the microstick. But it will be worth it in the end. My goal is to create a design that's focused on the mechanical functioning of the throttle gimbal and pot/Hall sensor, whichever it ends up being. This was the big failure of the Cougar and the fact it's made out of zinc. It will be designed to last 20 years easily, provide the same access for repairs as the real one, using easily sourced parts, have open source firmware/software and be able to host other pit building I/O boards for future use if I want it. Ideally I'd just buy the radio, DF and SB switches from Otto..... but that would be a $1,000 alone!

The sound files work for me but I haven't flown the Hornet since the Vipers release but I'll check tomorrow. Thanks for the work Tyrant07!

Truth.. My F-16SGRH grip was over $500.

If you have the FSSB3 Lighting base and have updated the firmware to the latest release, you will NOT lose any functions at all. It will work seamlessly without Bluetooth.
