How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

It was said in response to Raven's statement that "any 4th gen fighter can break M 1.0 in military power". Of course they can, but not all can in level cruise. Cracking M1 in a dive at MIL power is very different, eventually you will reach denser air or denser ground. Or even accelerating through the barrier and then reducing to MIL, you are technically in supercruise at that point, but will be decelerating. All I was wondering was if it was a known ability of the Strike Eagle with pylons fitted to be able to do it. I imagine if so, then it would be plausible with CFT fitted AMRAMMs too.
-
Breaking is one thing, sustaining another. I could have sat there in the cons all day at a steady M1.03.

Clean jet with pylons, 93% thrust, no AB. I could believe a fully-slick jet might be able to do it under certain conditions, but surprised it will with pylons on.
-
Had a quick lunchtime fly, followed the cold start tutorial mission and took off. Anyway, clean jet, with pylons, FL280, MIL power, M1.03. Is this correct?

The simple compromise, which I've mentioned on other similar threads is to disassociate swell with chop. Chop can be linked to wind, as in real life, and swell can be independently set. Chop is largely cosmetic, and swell effects the vessel pitching, rolling and heaving movement.

Switching from front seat to rear not working in VR
Lace replied to Sirbum's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, there is a setting to 'ENABLE MULTICREW' in the aircraft config tab in the Mission Editor. For whatever reason in some missions it is enabled, others not. -
Set your AWACS flight plan. Have WP0 the start point, WP1 your AWACS station, and WP2 should be your landing airbase. At WP1 under 'Advanced Waypoint actions' add 'Orbit', then edit orbit, stop condition, tick 'Is user flag' (flag number whatever you like). Go to Triggers, and set a trigger for your desired condition, then on 'Trigger Actions' set 'Flag On' for the flag number already set for your stop condition. This should then end your AWACS orbit and send it on its way to the next WP. Is this any use to you?
-
The orbit instruction (advanced waypoint options) can be ended (stop condition) with a flag. If the AWACS flight plan has an end point i.e. a landing waypoint, it will stop the orbit and continue en-route. I'm not sure if it can be done without any waypoints - is there a reason you can't have a landing waypoint after their station keeping waypoint?

Roadmap unofficial thread youtube creators spam.
Lace replied to Furiz's topic in Forum and Site Issues
I'm with @Furiz here. Previously an update to the roadmap meant some genuine news or an announcement, and was met with some excitement. Now it is just another content creator sharing their videos of what we already know. If I want to follow a YouTuber, I will follow them through that platform. The roadmap thread should not be the place for free advertising of their channels. We need to fix the SNR on that thread and move back to news. -
This is something which has been requested before. The general consensus is that while it would be nice to have, the mechanics of accurately simulating even an inert shape would require knowledge of how that device integrates with the aircraft systems, SMS pages, configs, switchology, PALs, procedures etc, all of which are still very classified. We would end up with a 'best guess', which kind of goes against the authenticity for which DCS strives. I think the best we can hope for is a re-skin of a Mk84 created as a user mod.

I should have been clearer, I believe it limits G onset, rather than maximum G. Happy to be corrected though.
-
It does limit the G, and roll rate (or at least it used to). The warning isn't implemented yet.
-
Happy to help. I'm sure there are better ways for those ME scripting wizards but for a simpleton like myself it works well enough.

For SAMs, under ADVANCED WAYPOINT OPTIONS > SET OPTION > INTERCEPTION RANGE > set anywhere between 0-100% of max Aircraft SET OPTION > AA MISSILE ATTACK RANGES > set to halfway max range to prevent long range shots, or NEZ only also, SET OPTION > RADAR USING > Never use, or REACTION TO THREAT > No reaction, to simulate a lack of SA. These are all crude workarounds, but can help to hobble an enemy response, in the same way an EW attack might.
-
You can reduce intercept ranges for SAMs and weapon DLZs for aircraft. That could possibly be adapted to achieve some sort of simulated jamming. Perhaps even randomly activating and deactivating 'ghost' aircraft groups to draw away defenders. EW in general is sadly (but understandably given its complex and mostly classified nature) underrepresented in DCS.

No reason you couldn't use ROCAF skins within CTF Blue faction, political considerations aside.

I have to say, this was one of my first thoughts too - they have done a fantastic job with this, in what seemed to be a very short development time. I wonder what region is next on their list? Certainly large cities don't seem to be a problem any more. How about Taiwan?

I was struggling at first but then set the draw distance down to medium and am getting very good results now. Obviously everyone has their own take on the whole quality/performance compromise, but as a VR flyer with a laptop 3080 I think the performance is as good as any other map, and still better than the Marianas. Tested so far with the Gazelle, Mi-8 and Viper.
