  1. To be honest I do almost exactly what you are doing at the moment. I generally only use trimming to maintain hover, to keep the craft at a certain speed, sometimes when strafing. I'm not sure why anyone would use it much in combat. In combat I use 'turn to target" a great deal.. I trim before that to get a reasonably stable hover.. I trim afterwards to maintain a steady speed back to base. I don't fully understand trimming when using the Autopilot between waypoints... I use flight director a great deal.
  2. This skin is already in the game......!
  3. Well I've tried it 6 times now and only on the first go did TIR fail with a hang. I think it MIGHT have been because I had the head tracking window open as I ran BS. Normally this hasn't been an issue, TIR detects BS and auto closes any track windows but maybe it struggled this time.. :book:
  4. Yes unfortunately TIR is disabled (well actually it hangs) when I use Wombat's script. I haven't got time to fully test this atm but I might try releasing 1 or 2 of the 4 cores on my system and see if that makes a difference. I'm pretty sure I've had TIR running with 4 cores on DCS.exe by setting it manually.. but I'm not absolutely certain. I didn't notice this yesterday (when I first tried the script) because I wasn't using TIR. Oh I should point out that whilst I don't always play the game with TIR running I've used it several times and this is the first time it hasn't worked/hung. EDIT: I've just tried it again with Wombat's script and it worked fine.
  5. I have no idea why you get this. Are you sure you are looking at the correct process "dcs.exe"? The fact that it doesn't, by default, allow for multicore is "known". I have Blackshark installed on two different 64bit Vista machines (Russian and English) and neither machine, by default, have affinity set to more than core 0.
  6. I had the same issue. For whatever reason the in game default setup with the X52PRO the collective gets assigned to the small slider on the throttle and the throttle itself sets engine power. I swapped them round manually. Note that once I did this I reversed the axis for the small slider because forwards reduced engine power.
  7. This is very nice work Wombat :) Works fine and saves me messing about with affinity in task manager every time (which I often forget to do anyway).:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
  8. You need to quit the current game AFAIK. Turn on the realism settings and run the mission (or whatever) again.
  9. Finally an answer about the NAV switch! Actually at least one of the training missions has it set to on. I've noticed if you switch it on mid flight the KA-50 goes a bit nuts....
  10. Well I'm still puzzled by the NAV switch.. Can anyone tell me exactly what it does and when its required? To be fair I'm still reading the manual so maybe it's there somewhere! Regarding the AUTO TURN TO TARGET. This is weird. Sometimes the KA-50 DOES turn to target properly (without additional trimming), sometimes it's a degree off, sometimes significantly off. Anyone know more about this?? The safety idea seemed good but it's not much of a safety when it is dead on! :) :helpsmilie:
  11. Although I don't "know" the answer, in Nemises mentioned that he thought it was a safety feature. This makes some sense. You select the target which is a fairly easy operation. To prevent accidental fire IRL you have to make a very definite turn to target before weapon release.
  12. I've found a couple of switches that seem important which aren't covered in anything I've seen so far at least.... The first is Weapons Control System (WCS) which is off by default it's located to the right of the pilot ejection switches. I THINK this is why I wasn't getting illuminated "Auto turn to target" etc.. buttons when I pressed them. Maybe I've missed this in the training..? The other is a bit of a puzzle atm. "NAV" This is located right one switch of the Main Hydraulics switch. The manual states that it is the "Targeting Navigation System - ON -OFF switch" and says that it governs power and ground checks for the targeting navigation system.. It therefore sounds (to me) like it PROBABLY should be ON in flight and in the weapons training it seems to be ON. Switching it on or off in flight has a major impact to the helicopter when flying! Leaving it OFF doesn't seem to be a problem although surely it must cause some issue! Anyone know more about the NAV switch?
  13. Similar situation for me. Been practicing hovering a lot, landing a lot (well crashing). Worked on the startup procedure which has helped me to understand the systems more than I did. Moved to weapons systems a couple of days ago. Starting to feel like I know what I'm doing.. to a degree. :)
  14. The OP asks a fair question and assuming he hasn't yet played Blackshark and therefore doesn't realise the amount of work gone into it will not realise that the KA-50 module is worth, at the very least, double the asking price!
  15. I was just writing something almost identical to this.. So to add: I have played many, many "simulations" in the past, not one of them feels as real as Blackshark, almost all of them felt like a compromise. Blackshark feels like a full military simulation, everything just seems right. The immersion (imo) is unparralleled.
  16. I partially agree with the OP. I don't find the training missions boring but I would prefer them to be interactive. On the other hand they can be paused (to take notes) and you can take control at the beginning and listen to the training whilst attempting to copy the instructions (to a degree at least). Despite the massive information overload I do feel that there is actually a lack of information in some areas, certain controls are mentioned but remain unexplained, this applies to the manual as well. I am still confused about the "NAV" button on the right panel, for example. Having said all that.. the sim is a remarkable achievement. 10/10 imo.
  17. I have had the same issue with the yaw pitch and bank APs disengaging but I'd put it down to them being switched off after (or while) I turn off auto-hover, reading this post makes me think that it's happening before that and I'm just not noticing it.
  18. @nemises Having carefully watched the 2nd producers note on the weapons systems I can see that he too is offset to the right of the target and appears to use rudder to bring the firing pipper in line. I suspect you are right in that this is probably some safety feature so that you don't accidentally fire when your attention is on the shkval tv. I guess by trimming you are actually turning the safety off :) I have a feeling that the reason why auto-turn to target doesn't light up may be due to me missing the right panel weapons system on switch.. Although I wonder if the fact that the button still works is actually a bug! If anyone can confirm any of the above and help to explain the loss of autopilots when disengaging auto-hover I would be happy :)
  19. Well I can try that I guess although it seems a little odd. It doesn't explain the problem with the button remaining unlit (which I thought might be the root cause) and it isn't mentioned (AFAIK) in the training......
  20. Thanks for the reply Vapour but AFAIK this isn't connected to the cannon. The cannon is on the right of the heli anyway so pointing to a few degrees to the right of a target makes it impossible for the canon to fire at all. In any case it stays a few degrees to the right regardless of the selected weapon system.
  21. Using the English version of Blackshark Well I'm very much a novice so excuse my ignorance but I am totally confused about Auto Turn to Target and an issue with Auto Hover. I've made a very basic mission as a training area. I have myself as a flight leader with 2 wingmen and roughly 3km away I put a group of about 6 enemy BMPs.. Everything else in the mission is default.. I've set no extra parameters and windspeed is default (zero). I start on the ground, power off, along with my wingmen. After following the accelerated startup procedure I can take off without issue however when I lock on a target with the Shkval and hit the Auto Turn Target button I have two issues: 1. The button works i.e. the heli autopilot turns the craft... but the button itself doesn't light up.. Anyone know why? Basically I get no visual information that I've turned auto-turn to target on.. 2. No matter what I select as the target the helicopter always points a couple of degrees to the right of the target forcing me to apply some left rudder to line up the pipper with the target before I can fire ordinance. Why is it off target? Do I need to adjust something as in zero it in? Final question! Roughly 50% of the time when I disengage Auto Hover the other autopilots disengage too! Anyone know why this happens?
  22. 30" dell 3008WFP with an Nvidia 280. Currently running in a 1920x1200 window while learning controls and looking at manual. Have tried it at 2560x1600 and it looks really good. Obviously there's an FPS drop at this resolution although I didn't notice a massive drop. The monitor is exceptional but a bit expensive. No noticeable latency altho the tech specs are roughly 45ms lag. No ghosting noticable either, very little backlight bleed. The monitor has loads of inputs including a display port. I currently use dual link DVI for the PC, HDMI for a PS3 and VGA for a 360. I would highly recommend the Dell 2707 (27" 1920x1200) if you can find one. I would NOT recommend the 2709!!!! The 2709 is nowhere near as good as the 2707 although it does have more inputs. Just a word of warning. I hate SLI/Crossfire, every time I've tried it or seen a setup with it I've noticed stuttering issues when the FPS drops below around 60. Whilst some say they don't notice it the facts seem to speak for themselves (at least when running AFR). http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1317582
  23. Well it is the most realistic "Swimulation" ever ;)
