  1. And indeed DCS does have quite a lot of settings to allow for various modes of play including "game mode". So this would just be another extension of the settings we already have. It certainly wouldn't take away anything from the hardcore sim side of it.
  2. I've tried using an XBox controller, but it doesn't give me enough accuracy for the absolute slew on the HCU. Would a bigger stick like a Thrustmaster T.16000M or Logitech 3D extreme be more accurate? Other options?:joystick: Or is there a way to use the mouse as the slew? (The keyboard arrows work OK, but it's not as nice as analog input)
  3. For those of us travelling, or those gamers who are not able to invest in a good HOTAS, I believe having mouse based flight control such as in the example below would make DCS a hugely more playable, perhaps even opening it to a new audience thanks to the accessibility factor. :smilewink: As you can see in the first and last part of the video, the plane turns towards the big circle, which is controlled by the mouse. Very intuitive and accurate way to fly.
  4. Most people here have headtracking, but most gamers do not, so I believe DCS would be far more accessible if we could use a centered cursor, and move the camera at the same time. Similar to this (or basically any First Person Shooter): https://simmer.io/@cleanshirtlabs/~b62b45b4-1181-10d8-094f-d9392d179293 Whatever you look at with the centre of the screen is also clickable. No more cycling LALT+C over and over :P
  5. I can only encourage the talented developers at ED to make true multi-core a higher priority. It's hard to buy a competent CPU with fewer than 6 cores these days, with 8/16 threads becoming the mainstream norm in about 15 months time, as the new Sony and MS gaming consoles come out. I don't exactly have any issues with running DCS it's perfectly smooth in most situations, but you know, it's always nice to get the most out of the hardware you buy, and particularly in multiplayer or scenarios with huge amounts of planes and things going on, there would likely be some benefits. But hey, I'm just glad we such as amazing simulator :-)
  6. Sign me up for the F-14D :-) As much as I'm enjoying the F-14B, I do miss the more modern technology at times.
  7. It's even more important to do stretching and movement in general as you age :-) (that and eat as much whole-plant foods as possible - a lot of what ailments that are considered age related, aren't so much related to age, but rather that people have been eating poorly for a long time, too much dairy, too much meat, and they get the diseases of kings, so to speak ) anyway sorry about the tangent, but look after your body and mind and you will have plenty happy DCS days to come :D
  8. +1 to getting a car seat from a car yard - some of the passenger seats have never been used in many cars! :-)
  9. I have disabled full-screen mode, and this appears to have solved it. So it appears to be an problem with full-screen mode - which is not a big deal, since non-full-screen still takes up the full screen, no borders or anything everything is great :-)
  10. If I alt-tab out of DCS, and then return back into DCS. My frame rate goes from a typical 100-200fps down to 30fps - and stays at around 30-40fps until I restart DCS. Has anyone experienced this, or is there something I can try to fiddle with? GPU: RX 5700 w/ 19.8.2 drivers (latest) CPU: 3700X RAM: 16GB DDR4 OS: Win 10 latest updates MOBO: MSI A PRO with latest BIOS
  11. Is the advertised Ghz/Mhz just a theoretical limit? The kind we see from advertised network card and internet speeds, but never actually achieve?
  12. The RX 5700 (non XT) is a better buy, there'll be no perceptible difference in FPS at 1080p You should easily get 100-200fps depending on the circumstances / settings.
  13. Smells like a smear campaign to me. AMD's new CPUs (and GPUs) are so popular they aren't able to keep up with the demand. The performance for the price is far ahead of Intel / Nvidia. Yes Nvidia and Intel are still faster, but you pay approximately 25-40% more for a ~5% performance increase, hardly worth it. It would only make sense that some social media influencers are doing what they are paid to do - influencing. You basically can't trust what happens on social media. 1) they are trying their best to create controversy, because that's what gets the most views for them 2) they are paid to say certain things, which is why one day their sing praise about about Intel, and next day about AMD. It's essentially a product commercial. Still, it'll be interesting how all this plays out.
  14. I prefer tutorial videos. They can get more nuanced information across and typically in a shorter time. Once you get the general idea of a function/system, a reference sheet (hardcopy or pdf) is all you need. Perhaps you enjoy reading the manuals then that's fine, it is interesting to do so, but remember you are playing a sim, so no need to read the manual like you would for a test. Some people get more fun out of DCS by doing what the task they are learning about. Which is the benefit of a simulator. Experimenting is part of the fun. Each to their own of course :)
  15. Best thing about VR is not having to press the re-center button over and over like you do with trackIR
  16. http://Http://gamechangersmovie.com I'm a huge environmentalist, so it pleases me see my silver screen heroes now promoting environmental eating. Just figured I could share my excitement here with you all and perhaps this documentary will influence more people to help us all fix the current environmental state of emergency. James Cameron is producing this, so I expect it will be high quality but perhaps no blue people this time :megalol:
  17. I fly with an Xbox controller about 50% of the time. I'd buy a conversion kit for sure.

    DCS: Phone?

There is software like Trinus VR which let's you use your phone as a VR headset(you still need at least a 20 dollar plastic phone holder though) it's a cheap way to get VR. But I'm not sure how good the experience is. I think it's better to save up for a HP Reverb so you can actually read the cockpit text and hud lol. Perhaps a 4k we would work OK.

    U.F.O.

Unless it's alien falling debris :) Well I'm looking forward to the show that is about to air about all of this. If it is aliens, I hope they are here to sort out our problem, being in the 6 mass exctiction God knows we need all the help we can get :)

Tic tac was visual ID only AFAIK. Which as we all know is not that reliable particularly in stressful situations. Friendly fire accidents happen sometimes from this - pilots mistake markings on top of vehicles for SAMs in the gulf War. Everyone in the same flight group saw the non exist ant SAMs. With the Belgian group, how do we know that it wasn't a falling meteor or satellite debris which China didn't bother warning us. Etc. All 3 radars may have picked up a weather anomaly or false positive etc. I'm certain they saw and detected something, but they need to show more data and that the data matches what the eyeballs saw. Whether it is UFO or ET or just dust. It is very interesting to me.

I'd like to know a well. Could it be a smudge or defect or dust on the lens of the flir? When they talk about how the f/a18 spirals downward in order to get a good look at the UFO and it matches their spiral maneuver perfectly but opposite, then that just sounds like equipment failure, or something stuck to the lens. As fair as I know nobody saw anything as well as detected it with sensors at the same time. Only one or the other, making me think it's malfunction one time, and optical illusion of the human eye the next. If they both saw it with their eyes and also confirmed it with their equipment, then we would know something was likely there. But when it's only one or the other, it's likely malfunctioning sensors or brain failure. We are tricked by magicians easily, and we know they are not aliens(unless thats part of their alien plan :p) There's that space photo of the NASA blanket floating around in space, and people thought it was an alien satellite, because there was no sense of scale. So I'm quite sure what pilots saw with there own eyes, in a pressurized cabin, with artificial oxygen, traveling at Mach 1, at 30,000 feet with brain overloaded with information and expecting to see a UFO from a briefing.... well that's a stressful situation, and your brain is primed to see something unusual, then the brain takes shortcuts to keep you safe(could that pile of leaves be a lion watching you? My tribe said there was a lion around.... ) , so in those moments everything looks unusual. Perhaps those malfunctions are even programmed in on purpose to test pilot's and radar crew psychology since they seem to happen only during training....and some pentagon psychologist team is chuckling away. But I'm quite sure all of this is purposely lite on info in order to create mystery to sell a book and TV show (about to air). Still I'd love to find out how our eyes were tricked, whether it was dust on the flir or something else logical. Unless they shoot one down and we get hands on it, then it's all just weather balloons and lens dust to me :)

This was on the news and the wiki entry is pretty interesting too. I don't believe that aliens have been to earth(or any conspiracy stuff at all) , but I'm also having a hard time explaining what they saw. They saw something, what it is we don't know. A true UFO but unlikely to be aliens. Anyone have a good explanation?
  24. Does/will the F-16 do anything which the Hornet can't? Or is it at least more suitable for certain missions? I love both, but only have time to master one.
  25. Get well soon Mr Wags! Ages ago someone posted about Dr. John McDougall's books here in the chat section - So I tired it, and helped me a lot with my t2 diabetes(basically gone) . Wags or anyone, if you are in that age bracket where chronic disease is setting in, this a great thing you can try. It's a little strange to talk about in on the DCS forum, but good health means more flying :)
