  1. I bound zoom view as an axis to the slider on my throttle. (Under Axis only commands, last one in the list.) In practice, moving the slider forward is regular zoom but moving it backwards results in spyglass view. For your viewing pleasure:
  2. How do you get rid of that spyglass view?
  3. Can you make it regular zoom backwards as well or are we stuck with spyglass going backwards?
  4. The F-15 did not have recessed launchers, still doesn't to my knowledge. Instead of being recessed like on the Phantom the launchers were mounted on the lower "corners" of the fuselage. These were far easier/quicker to load than the recessed launchers on the Phantom. As a weapons mechanic I didn't find the recessed launchers on the Phantom advantageous to the load crews at all. It was kind of a pain in the rear end to get the wings and fins up inside the cavities w/o damage to the missile or the aircraft. A disadvantage to the recessed launchers on the Phantom is that they were structural, meaning you couldn't jack or tow the aircraft w/o the aft launchers (or the appropriate spacers) installed w/o damaging the airframe in such a way that reinstalling the launchers became nearly impossible. Several times while I was at Seymour Johnson aircraft were either towed or jacked w/o the launchers or spacers installed and in at least one instance it took almost 24 hours to get the launchers back in and it was only done by jacking the aircraft again while someone used a flashlight to watch how the bolt holes in the launcher lined up with the bolt holes in the airframe.
  5. The OP said release in 2022...time is getting short...just saying...
  6. I'd like to see the G model, niche yes, but it was modified specifically for SEAD missions, one of very few aircraft types to be modded specifically for SEAD missions. It's a great Vietnam/Cold War aircraft. Although I think the Navy guys should get a B or J first.
  7. I've read that the Ukrainians didn't modify the MiG-29's due to internal space limitations and are firing the HARMS "blind" and still getting good results. I'll see if I can find the link to the story I read. Found it. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/08/30/watch-the-ukrainian-air-force-lob-american-missiles-at-russian-radars/?sh=4759041755e5
  8. I suspect that is just impatience. Folks have mentioned scripts to stop rogue players from causing the kind of mayhem I've caused in other games. If you don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to scripting ( I don't have any knowledge in that area) I'm sure there are folks here that can help you out. Best of luck with this my friend.
  9. I think there are probably a couple of reasons why. People have busy lives and just want to get to the action. One real live pilot said in this thread that he doesn't want to feel like he is still at work so he uses the auto-start and hot start features. Some folks want to learn multiple planes and when so many of them are study sims why not cut out the parts that aren't absolutely necessary like startup and shutdown? Personally, I'd like to learn the F-14 and the F-4E (when it gets here) completely but I'd also like to fly other aircraft as well which means I'm probably not going to be able to commit all of that stuff to memory so I have choices to make concerning how I'm going to accomplish that.
  10. Why? In my experience many people call games like AirWarrior or Aces High sims when they aren't sims at all, they're games. DCS is a simulator and so is MSFS but how many others are actually sims and not games?
  11. Well... I've belly landed into hangers while enemy AAA vehicles were on the airfield and got away with it. I belly landed a Hurricane just as an La-7 (that I had shot down repeatedly that flight) crashed behind me while trying to vulch me landing. That one was hilarious, he was looking for some payback and gave me a proximity kill instead. Dev's fixed the belly landing issue, jerks. I've "gunned my engine" and taken off in whatever direction I was facing... I've used taxiways as runways and taken off directly from hangers I spawned in. I've killed AAA guns on airfields just so I could kill players as they spawned...
  12. That made me laugh, thanks.
  13. I guess I won't tell you the things I've done in other flight sims then.
  14. Look in the wishlist thread about the Vietnam map. Someone (ED didn't say who) has taken on Vietnam as their first map project. I just found out I misinterpreted what was said. If I got your hopes up and now they've been crushed under ED's heel, I apologize.
  15. ED said someone has taken it on as their first map. Being a glass half full kind of guy I tend to believe them.
  16. I'm relatively new to DCS and I autostart all but the F-14 and I can watch a YouTube video of a real Tomcat being started on the deck of a carrier and keep up. So while I can learn the startup and shutdown procedures I'd rather use my brains memory bandwith to learn how to fly and fight more aircraft. That said, I fully support your request as it will attract players to your server that enjoy that play style. I don't think it would be all that hard or time consuming to implement either. While you're waiting for an official update maybe someone could write a script for you that will make your wish become reality. Good luck.
  17. There are at least 5 runways owned by the Air Force that are long enough to accomodate modern fighters in Alaska. Eielson AFB in Fairbanks Elemendorf AFB in Anchorage Shemya Island Galena AB (former alert site during the Cold War) King Salmon AB (Another former alert site) Barrow Alaska has a lengthy runway also, we (21st TFW) deployed there one time in the dead of winter just to see if we could do it. Dead of winter = temperatures below -40. The guys that went took ALL of their cold weather gear and were glad they did. F-15's were housed in some sort of blow-up hangers made of plastic and were heated so the aircraft didn't develop leaks due to the extreme cold. Dutch Harbor, Kodiak Island and other places might also have long enough runways to operate fighters from. And of course, no runways are needed for helicopters. There were Soviet air bases close enough to send bombers to test our reaction times. And they did, many times while I was there. We already have that. When mapping your HOTAS look for "UI Layer" then Time Accelerate, Time Decelerate and Time Normal.
  18. Someone, (to my knowledge ED didn't say who), is making a Vee Et Nahm map, it's coming and it's going to be a reality.
  19. Since Vee Et Nahm is being made... How about Europe, the whole thing. I know, I know...to big, to this, to that blah blah blah... This is my wish. Why you ask? A potential war in Europe is what I trained for in the 80's. We used to write messages on munitions in grease pencil, things like...well...I can't think of a single thing we wrote that would be appropriate to repeat here... SEAD missions in F-4G Wild Weasels so the A-10A's can wreak havoc on Soviet armor in the Fulda Gap, close air support missions in A-7's, F-4's, F-16s etc, etc... The F-15 proving it's worth in aerial combat vs it's nemesis ( I use that term in the loosest possible way), the Soviet Air Force.
  20. We're getting the map so all of this is moot...but.... Why make separate objects for paddies (filled and unfilled) dikes, rice plants etc etc when you can make the "object" complete, a paddy surrounded by dikes filled with water and healthy rice plants? You can make multiple rice paddies that vary in size and look and have one object instead of hundreds. Your Huey can utilize landing zones in the jungle, so make jungle "objects" that look like a landing zone and make multiples that vary in size, shape, and terrain features but have one thing in common, the edges of the jungle have you oooooo'ing and ahhhhhing over the graphics but if you could step 10 feet into the jungle you'd see a very different story. That same prinicple (one object over many) can be applied to many things on the map. Do we really need every village completely detailed when we can add detail (static objects) via the mission editor to the portion of the map we are currently using? I probably don't need/want a village 10 klicks west of Saigon having me enthralled by it's awesome graphics while I'm bombing Haiphong Harbor.
  21. Why not use blocks of trees (jungle) as opposed to individual trees? That would likely cut the object count dramatically, and really, who pays attention to individual trees anyway? Especially when we're talking triple canopy jungle... speaking of which, why model all 3 canopies when you can likely only see the uppermost?
  22. I've only used the Virpil software to update the firmware and calibrate the axis. Here's a tutorial that is simple and easy to follow. Dang....I forgot to answer the question in the OP. lol I bought the Constellation Alpha R grip to go with my Virpil throttle (CM3) and have been very impressed with the quality of the gear. I'd highly recommend both items (and a set of rudder pedals) to anyone that wants quality gear that will last years.
  23. I found some templates and someone sent me one but none of them really seemed "complete"/easy to use to me. Sooooo, I made my own in LibreOffice Calc and it should open/edit in Excel as well. I have the grid lines turned off but the cells are still there, click on them and add your text. Easy Peasy. I'm using red text for all the commands in the various aircraft profiles. I have the Constellation Alpha R grip and the T-50CM3 Throttle assembly. Virpil Blank Template.ods
  24. I'm reasonably sure this is an AI issue. After ensuring conflicting altitudes weren't an issue (I fixed several) I'm down to about 6 losses instead of 10-12. I suppose I'll have to live with that. Here's an example of the sort of mishap that is causing casualties. All that said, I'd like to thank everyone who offered suggestions for fixes, especially those who downloaded the mission and took a look at it.
