  1. Ka-50 is one heck of an aircraft (it's co-axial rotor for a start). AH-64 doesn't appear to have that capability.
  2. As @admiki said, I think that is the actual problem. I'm already on the margin, and exceeding it by turning at all. "rapid aft" means "to move quickly". I'm not doing that. I know you can't see me flying, but I'm actually very smooth on the controls, and I'm not pulling aft at all. Pure roll + pedal only.
  3. I found a bigger problem was suffering RBS. I'm not sure why a 40 degree right turn would induce that?
  4. All helicopters have a better side to turn. It seems the Hind runs out of power, rotor RPM droops, and then you start getting other problems. It's a big tail rotor that you're demanding a lot of pitch from, and I don't think the Hind has much excess power to deal with it.
  5. Simple: it isn't American! Cue "Team America" theme... JF-17 is a potent weapon in the right hands. It comes down to how skilled of a pilot you are. Some people gravitate to the F-16/F-18 because the aircraft makes up for their deficiencies as a pilot, but as some of the problems are being corrected in those modules, they require more skill to fight in. As written above: do NOT under-estimate the Jeff as an offensive platform. I'm at home in either the Jeff or the F-16.
  6. I'm using a Samsung 40" 4K UHD LED TV. I see no screen tearing, and I didn't see any with my previous display, either, for the same reason.
  7. I fly a couple, but fly helicopters more. Helicopters can be stopped on the ground by simply pulling back on the cyclic. The brakes are really just to stop it moving once you're stationary. Helicopters do taxi. They either wheel taxi or hover taxi. Of course, helicopters with wheels can hover taxi, too.
  8. I'll try. Not sure a screenshot will show what I see. Give me several minutes.
  9. Mi-24 can auto like any other helicopter, but you must do a roll-on landing. No hovering!!! Just flare and roll it on. Correct. Pitch for speed and collective to maintain healthy rotor RPM. Collective should be on the floor initially.
  10. Vulkan is massively over-rated, and I think people will actually be disappointed with it.
  11. Ka-50. It was my first DCS module back when Ka-50 was a totally stand-alone product! I have the Russian installer CD that was sent to me by a friend because there was a delay with it being made available in the UK/Western world. UH-1H is also a great module, but Ka-50 is best for combat. I just chill out with the Huey and treat it as my personal helicopter.
  12. Hi, Small detail: when watching the tips of the blades from the cockpit, the blades don't track correctly, and so some blades are higher/lower than others are the rotor rotates. Is this by design, or a weird graphical glitch? Helicopter is sat on the ground not moving, so not due to vibration or control input. Also, some blades appear to have opposite pitch to the pitch they are supposed to have (negative vs. positive pitch).
  13. Hi, It seems I can only equip one pod which is a grenade launcher, and the chain gun pod is no longer selectable? The weird part is the missing pod is available on the Mi-24.
  14. I think there is a bug. The middle position is AUTO, so it should work regardless, but it only works if you manually select MAIN.
  15. I'm sorry to hear that. Windows is just a major security headache. There is no real way to secure it - it is INsecure by design. The only thing I can advise is that you (anyone, actually) keeps OFFLINE backups/copies of all their important data/files. By OFFLINE, I mean on a disk that they have physical control of that is NOT connected to any computer except to access data when required. Any data used online (e.g. all day computing, or a server) should merely be a working copy that you can lose any time. Online and offline do NOT refer to network! It refers to the "old" definition of storage being available to a system. If iy is unplugged/depowered and inaccessible, then a virus can't attack it. Unfortunately, crypto miners and ransomware that encrypts everything is rampant, and the only defense is to have backups. The only safe way to restore such a system is to nuke the drives of an infected machine, and re-install from scratch. It is also much quicker (a couple of hours work). Antivirus was always pretty much useless, but nowadays it is even more useless. I'm not suggesting anything, but do you absolutely trust your friend in the US? There was also this, recently: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/12/critical-windows-code-execution-vulnerability-went-undetected-until-now/
  16. If you're not interested in VR then top spec Intel CPU (i7, not i9), and a 2080. The 30xx cards are overrated and not nearly as good as claimed. Get the fastest memory you can, but be aware that your requirement for 32 Gb will mean you may need to run the memory at slower timings. I run 16 Gb for this reason, and I've not yet found I *need* more than this. Close your damn web browser when gaming! That junk eats 5 Gb of RAM on its own. I run an i7 9700K @ 5 GHz, and a GeForce 1080 (NOT Ti). It runs DCS at max settings at 4K without any problems. System memory is running at 3466 MHz (it can run higher clock freq but it is actually SLOWER at 3600 MHz due to timing interleave with the processor clocks). Refresh is 16 ns.
  17. Not true. It depends entirely upon how your display updates pixels. Mine only changes the pixels that changed; not the entire display. Screen tearing is a symptom of raster displays (old CRT) and lower quality LCD displays. "Gaming" monitors are pretty poor for the money they charge. I use a 4K TV and have a much better display than friends who paid twice as much for a "gaming monitor".
  18. You "run a server". Do you own the server hardware or do you actually rent a server from a hosting company? If the server in reality is a hosting company, then sue the life out of them. If the server is yours, then the question is: did you disable anything you don't need, and run a tight firewall? By disable "anything you don't need", on my systems that means stuff like Windows Store is unable to function because certain system features are deleted. You can't run a Windows box without performing some major surgery if you want to keep it even slightly secure.
  19. I ordered the VKB pedals. Need to wait for sometime next year as they are on holiday! Thanks everyone!
  20. How do the toe brakes work with these? There is an interesting line of text on their site that reads: "And Virtual-Toe Brake software is now available to give users added functionality!" How does that work? Helicopters (Ka-50, Mi-8, Huey, Mi-24). Not needed so much for the jets (JF-17, F-16, F-18).
  21. New GPUs aren't worth the money! My 1080 is still more than adequate for 4K DCS simming! Long may that continue!
  22. Hi, Looking for a new set of rudder pedals. The VKB look to do what I need, though they lack toe brakes. VKB: https://flightsimcontrols.com/product/vkb-sim-t-rudder-pedals-mk-iv-2/ Virpil: https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-ace-interceptor-pedals.html Virpil look interesting until you realize they want an astronomical sum just to ship them, making the cost nearly $400 rather than the apparent $260 the pedals cost on the sales page. What range of motion do the Virpil pedals have from neutral to full deflection (inches please)? I've checked multiple reviews and no-one discusses this important aspect! While the VKB don't have the articulation I'd be looking for, they are less than half the price and nail everything else I want. In summary: is the Virpil worth double the price, if you neglect toe brakes? I primarily fly helicopters in DCS.
