  1. To be picky, the Viggen was released in early 2017 so we've just entered the 4th year. I agree it's a very long time, but I do prefer this method to RB's way of arbitrarily declaring incomplete products to be out of EA, leaving key features as "future implementation" (whatever that means). It's good to know that they're doing the final push though, hopefully the last issues will be sorted out soon.
  2. True, but it does get hairy when the jet noses down at transonic speeds and you're egressing after a strike at 10m AGL looking for AA and SAMs around you Honestly I think the best summary of the Viggen is - do you like airquake and online dogfighting? If yes, it's not really the module for you unless you want a challenge. Do you like air to ground missions, and especially single player? If yes, then the Viggen is VERY much for you. It comes with excellent SP content, and there's lots more in the users section. And to just note those that say "the Viggen can't perform CAS because it's not an A-10" - that option is definitely there in the same way that it's there for anything that isn't an A-10. The Viggen carries the same amount of Mavericks as a Hornet (or a Viper with a non Hoggit loadout) after all, and the RB-05/gunpod loadout is decent too. Obviously it doesn't have all the goodies of a 4th gen US jet, but it's a better CAS jet than an F-5 or Mirage imo. ps most rocket/bomb/gunpod delivery modes do not require QFE settings contrary to popular belief, because the Viggen preforms radar ranging automatically. Off the top of my head, only the NAV/Radar and high drag/CCIP bombing modes need QFE to be accurate.
  3. I like how a thread about early Cold War British jet instantly descended into another Phantom fest. I want that module as much as anyone, but stay on topic eh
  4. Yeah. Considering that a lot of the trouble with the program came from the -B, I think that if they built one plane to replace the Viper and Hornet, and another to replace the Harrier and A-10, they would have saved a lot of money and ended up with better performing jets.

    F-15E?

Interesting. How common is it for Mudhens to fly with C/A paintjobs?
  6. The same happened for the legacy Hornet as well as the Gripen. Military programs are always unpopular with the media, regardless of whether they are successful or not. Honestly, the F-35 program was overly ambitious and realistically the Harrier/A-10 replacement should have been a completely different airframe, but that doesn't say much about whether the plane as it is today is effective or not. More F-35s have been built than Typhoons, Gripens, Rafales, Strike Eagles or Super Hornets, and that alone means the program is not a failure.
  7. I don't think this is particularly realistic. Off the top of my head, the only aircraft in EA that would fit that description are the Mig-19 and the C-101 (and that one is mostly due to multicrew). The Mig-21 is complete, the Viggen is near feature complete and the items missing or requiring a rework would also apply if we had some AJ variant. On the other hand, the 4th gen jets are so different from their earlier variants (e.g a Block 15 Viper or something) that you would require much more work to start with an early version and update it to a modern one, not less.
  8. The Hunter of course would be amazing, although it would be painful to see all the requests for a Swiss one so we can have another Maverick truck The Scimitar was a miserable piece of failed engineering, so I wouldn't be very interested in it to be honest. A better FAA early jet would be the Sea Hawk imo: it actually had a very long and distinguished career, it kind of sort of fits with both the Syria map (if you have a scenario in which the Suez Canal crisis escalates) and SoH (with the Indian Navy posturing against Pakistan?), and in Indian colors it has plenty of aircraft it fought with (the Mig-21bis plus the Hunter if it gets added) and against (Mig-19, F-86).
  9. As others have said, I would, but only if variants beyond whatever is the first were discounted. I would not pay $60-70 (more likely 70, let's face it) more than once.
  10. Stick shakers are for weaklings
  11. To be fair, the block 35 Sabre is far closer to the Korean jets than the Thunderstreak is to the Thunderjet.
  12. Oh yeah, I can see that business meeting. Wags: Hi everyone, let's get started. BN, any news from the forums? BN: Many users keep asking for a Flanker, especially a modern one Nick: Sounds like we could get a great return on that if many people want it. Can't have that. Quick, let's code up a new JDAM delivery mode and forget about the Flanker! That'll teach these people to love anything that isn't a Western jet! Wags: *evil Palpatine laugh* Give me a break. ED is a business. If they see an opportunity to make a Flanker, they will, because it's a popular aircraft. There isn't some conspiracy to piss off Redfor pilots for the giggles.
  13. That has less to do with its capabilities and more to do with its range (and the Tomcat's) being considerably larger than the Hornet-only fleet they have now though.
  14. Can the AMK be retrofitted to existing jets (plus software update ofc)?
  15. Not really, the reason developement was delayed and is not happening right now is the mess that happened after the Harrier was declared as being out of EA.
  16. lmao Klarsnow is a Strike Eagle WSO. Your posts never disappoint, keep it up.
  17. If we're going for that I'll throw in the Yak-28 Brewer, which was heavier than the Fitter. I'll admit the chance of having either bomber or interceptor Brewers in DCS are nil though.
  18. Honestly I have mixed feelings. I think tactical transports like the C-130 (or the C-27J, one can dream...) or Chinhook would fit very well and appeal to a fairly large audience, but things like AWACS or tankers are unlikely to have a good return on investment.
  19. If your "cutoff age" is 1955 then a bunch of aircraft mentioned here belong in the other thread Not to say that I don't like the suggestions, just being nitpicky.
  20. Out of aircraft that aren't in DCS yet, most of the Century Series, but especially the Starfighter. Also the Draken and the Su-7 Fitter.
  21. If we go by the 1950s, early jets...I'd say the de Havilland Vampire, the F-84F Thunderstreak, the RF-84F Thunderflash, and the F9F Panther (although two of those barely missed Korea because the engines were crap). For later jets, obviously the entire Century series, that goes without saying.
  22. Because HB have announced that it will also be their next full fidelity module, after the Tomcat and Viggen are out of EA. The AI will come before it though.
  23. That's exactly my point
  24. And the Greeks flew F-102s at the same time. Let's throw that one in as wel
  25. The radar isn't too bright at night, the radar screen has a night mode that darkens it and reddens it beyond the usual brightness knob in the cockpit. I think it's one of those things that should be animated in the cockpit, but isn't yet (like the EP sight controls).
