  1. Yes please! I Have been trying to figure out how to get something like this working with no luck.
  2. A few months ago but a great video that show us warts 'n' all, heaps of choice Kiwi phrases like "Shit a brick!", "Noice" and heaps of other barely decipherable solid Kiwi chat. If your from around here you'll get it :D
  3. Thanks ED, this section is paying dividends for us already! :D Great to see you Hamel! Look forward to catching up online soon
  4. Bigrudie streams, I've just found his details. http://www.twitch.tv/bigrudie Check it out tonight if you want to see what we are all about.
  5. Yes we have a couple of streamers, having trouble finding there links though, you can check out Yodas videos if you want to know what your likely to find us doing... https://www.youtube.com/user/rsmetcalfenz/videos We are a pretty casual bunch but we pull of some pretty cool and challenging missions that's for sure! The time zone is a bitch but its perfect for anyone down under. Aussies are very welcome
  6. If you're in the Australasian region/timezone and are looking for a group who regularly fly together TFK could be a fit for you. The Flying Kiwis have been flying together for the last 19+ years and moved from IL-2 to DCS a couple of years ago. We cater to most aircraft types and are big on carrier operations, we use all maps and always fly new and different missions. The main nights we fly are 'Choppa Tuesday', helicopter training on obviously Tuesday, often with fixed wing support, Thursday is our 'training night' consisting of carrier work, Case 1 & 3 practice, formation, refueling and weapons employment, we will also give the F16 a good crack on Thursdays, but most types are available. Sunday is our main mission night where we fly together as a team to accomplish the mission in a huge array of different mission scenarios and contexts. All flight nights commence at 20:00NZT. While we do have some very talented pilots flying with us, if your at the beginning of your DCS flight simming adventure don't be shy to join in. I have always firmly believed the best way to learn is to jump in with guys that know what they are doing, everyone is very approachable, patient and happy to help and offer any experience they may have that will put you on the path to success. Jump on our Discord channel where most of the action takes place- https://discord.gg/QjPd5pM See you in the skies!
  7. Thanks Willie :D, I have given it a bloody good crack! Lots of useful info and helpful opinions. So far so good, very glad I got it and I am having no issues with fogging now, so whatever they did it worked really well for me :)
  8. Thanks guys for the help, a couple of good options for me to look into there, cheers!
  9. This is doing my head in... All I want to do is start DCS WITHOUT WMR starting up so I can use the mission editor on my normal screen, but every time I start DCS it goes to VR. Has to be a simple solution right? Any ideas?
  10. Also keep practicing, it is a quickly perishable skill. We train once a week as a squad and even then you can see deteriorating skill levels at Case 1, if you do it regularly though it quickly comes back.
  11. I caught myself out the other night when setting up for a Case III carrier approach, I forgot to box TCN on the HSI, apart from that it is working as intended for me.
  12. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone's input in this thread, believe it or not I have kept up and read about 90% of this thread as I was very keen on the Reverb for a long time. Today I finally got it and had a good session tonight with it and it is overall a great upgrade from the CV1. But if development had ended with the CV1 and that was as good as it got I would have been a happy simmer for the rest of my life. The jump from 2D monitor to VR has been such a massive jump in immersion for me, I fell totally at home in VR. Look forward to tweaking it to perfection! Oh and the reduction in fogging up (that I asked about a few pages back) has been amazing!
  13. Guys I just got my Reverb today going from a Rift CV1. As far as I could tell it runs fantastic! Its like the CV1 but everything is just better. Now, I am a coffee roaster. We do cupping to test various aspects of the coffee roasting process and for QC. One rule with our company is no one is allowed to say what they think about whatever we are cupping at the time until the end because it is so subjective and if someone tastes something and says "I think it is bright with an ashy after taste" then your mind 'sees' that and you will taste something similar. Can I humbly put forward all this about ghosting in the Reverb is similar. I have experienced no ghosting at all but I may well be completely unfamiliar with what it looks like (and as the example above please don't show be because I am happy in my ignorance!). To me it has been a wonderful upgrade and I haven't even looked seriously into setting it up yet, it was literally plug and play today and I got lucky, it just worked great! This is on a new build i78700, 32Gig ram, M2SSD, 2080 Super. I have my graphic settings stupidly high as well and I host MP for our medium sized group The Flying Kiwis, so its a work out for the PC for sure but honestly couldn't complain about my experience tonight and it was a fairly heavy mission, it was aside from two huge pauses as smooth as I could ask for. I just wanted to add the subjective example side of this as Gunslinger you are obviously acutely aware of ghosting so possibly you will notice it immediately where is someone like me new to the Reverb is just so happy with all its advances over the previous generation I cant really see what your talking about and so it is a non issue for me personally at this stage.
  14. I did not know this, that's awesome!
  15. Yep Pies right, no doubt your axis controls are double bound, look in the drop down menu in controls and you will see 'Axis commands' check the rudder axis are not set to your X and Y axis (often it is in both joystick and rudders column) and check each axis carefully to make sure they are in the correct column, once you clear those conflicts out you should be good to go.
  16. That's great to know guys, I'm really excited for the upgrade, still interested to know your thoughts on the vents though, is it effective in keeping fogging/sweating down?
  17. Hopefully soon when stock arrives in New Zealand I'll be upgrading from the CV1 to the Reverb. I absolutely love the CV1 and if that's as good as it got I would be more than happy, but with a new system I can now push something better and after a lot of reading and research I think the Reverb will be the best option for me. I would like to ask those who have it about the vents, the biggest hassle I have with the CV1 is fogging, do the vents help with this? We are about to hit summer down under and I can see the CV1 will be a bit of a pain with sweat so I am hoping the Reverb will be an upgrade in this respect. The setup is freaking me out a bit but I'm sure I will be able to figure it out in the end. I'm also a little worried about all the reported problems as well but I guess I can fall back on the Rift is it fails on me. Looking forward to it!
  18. Personally I love the fact that it is hard work to look around in VR, I'm in a CV1 as well and I just don't have any issues checking my whole visual space nor do I notice the FOV at all when I'm flying because the immersion is so great for me, I am a pig in mud as it were. I love that after a good session of BFM I am exhausted! And the next day I can feel all those sore neck, shoulder and torso muscles, its a great step towards realism. I was fortunate enough to go for a fly in a real P51D and did some awesome BFM in that flight, I really wanted to see how hard it was to check my 6 under 'G' so I was looking back all the time, it was amazingly easy (But about half an hour after landing I found out I had sprained my neck severely) I get exactly the same perception in VR as I got in that flight so I love it. Interesting that no one seems into an accelerated view as the OP has tabled, but we don't complain about the zoom...
  19. Yea but, got a link to the original hour long radio chatter? I would love to use it for our missions as well. If we (TFK) are going on a long mission I will sometimes broad cast a Foo Fighters concert on a FM channel, its so cool to have that coming through the radio, you can hear all the comms normally but with an extra layer of rock n roll goodness :D makes the mission file pretty huge though. Hey it passes the time and adds a good touch of rhythm to your flying. :pilotfly:
  20. We (The Flying Kiwis) gave it a good test tonight and I think everyone came away with a really positive outlook on it. Totally understand its early access so we didn't ask too much of it, just checked out how it flew, what it could do performance wise, bit of weapons testing, understanding (learning) new systems etc... It all seemed to work pretty good. Nice to have a targeting pod this early, GBU's seemed to work fine. Need to get the air refueling issue fixed though, we want to put some miles on this thing! Overall personally I am more impressed than I thought I would be. Looking forward to its development
  21. Cool man, no worries and no pressure. The cool thing with TFK for our Australasian region is we have been around for well over 12 years, people come and go and come back again knowing that TFK will always be flying their main mission on Sunday at 20:00, always have, with training nights during the week, weather anyone is there or not it will always be up. Handy with our time zones and smaller populations. Look forward to seeing you in the marshal stack
  22. Long enough for you to get the wee ones to sleep ;) Shout out to Bankler too, we use his Case 1 training map that is excellent. Not too mention lex!
  23. Yes I would have to agree. I only used TrackIR for a relatively short time before trying VR and yes there was no going back, its so cool. But I would have to agree with Yurgon a good HOTAS is vital. I already had the TM Warthog so it was straight to VR for me. The TrackIR is handy sometimes if I'm testing things in the Mission Editor but that's it. Also what Vampire said, Its not too bad finding things outside of VR, the keyboard is muscle memory for me and I have most things I need setup on the HOTAS. Its drinking beer and opening new bottles where the real skill comes in though :D
  24. I think we might be able to help you there sir! The Flying Kiwis server is open to the public and we fly Tuesday and Thursday as our training nights and normally Thursday will be Case 1 training, we do a bit more than that as well like tactical formation training, refuelling maybe some weapons delivery if there is a new system to get familiar with. But yes lots of stuff around the boat. Flying kicks off at 20:00NZL, we are mostly Kiwis but have some great talent from across the ditch flying with us. We don't use SRS at this stage, just Discord. most of us are flying in VR now as well. Our Discord channel: https://discord.gg/QjPd5pM And our local forums are at https://www.simcentral.co.nz/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=18 but you'll need to register. Hope we see you soon!
  25. I haven't had any negative effects from VR, but damn my neck is getting stronger!
