  1. Yes - see http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?lang=en
  2. Some interesting videos of Nellis here:- http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1659353/fighter_pilot_operation_red_flag/ Interesting site:- http://www.lazygranch.com/flags.htm
  3. The documentary did not specify which nations were taking part, obviously USA was one of them. For more info:- http://www.dreamlandresort.com/info/red_flag_photos_bill.html http://www.lazygranch.com/flags.htm
  4. This may be the wrong thread to make this post, and if so the mods may move to the correct thread! I have just watched on The Military Channel (UK), a documentary about Red Flag. I was interested in the report "Hinds have been a feature of Red Flag exercises for a number of years, to provide a threat against other helos and slow aircraft such as the A-10. In recent exercises the Hinds have been able to take out fast jets such as F-16 and even F-15C." I find this comment interesting. When FC2 is released, linking over multiplayer with Black Shark, users will be able to explore the procedures and tactics that should be used by a helo with an A2A capibility against fixed wing threats. You may discover something that the military do not yet know about, as I do not know of any real military simulators that are exploring this scenario. When Flanker was first released back in 1995, it was discovered that if an Su27 could survive BVR against an F-15C, the Su27 had a significant advantage in fighting within visual range because of the HMS and off-boresight missile. The US military discovered this after German re-unification when they had access to Mig-29s and flew F-16s against the Mig-29s. The F-16s had a big surprise, until the Mig-29s had to RTB due to running out of fuel. As a result, major US effort to develop the AIM9X.
  5. We have been trying to encourage Ubisoft to make LOMAC more easily available, but for them it is an old title (launched in Nov 2003). The only site where you can buy the boxed version seems to be http://www.kengray.co.uk/lockonbuy.htm You can also try the various Amazon sites or ebay. LOMAC will be necessary to run FC2.
  6. Hi Frazer Can you post the track when it is done? Video makers then make a pic within pic version. Please do not crash at the end!
  7. Unfortunately only available from TFC in the UK; http://fighter-collection.com/pages/tfc/flight%20simulation/index.php
  8. Excellent video - closest I have seen that is representative to what is going on now in Afghanistan, though the reality is that fortunately the Taliban do not have manpads, but RPGs are still dangerouse for Helos. See Ed Mavy's book Hellfire.

It has been quoted many times by Spit and Mustang pilots who flew 109's just after the war - if they had realised how poor was the visibility in a 109, particlarly from 4 to 8 o'clock, they would have been more aggressive in attacking.

No problem, the info is in the public domain. If you wish to see a facsimile of the actual document - http://www.scribd.com/doc/4598146/Pilots-Notes-Supermarine-Spitfire-Mk-IIA-IIB-Merlin-XII-Engine or http://freechecklists.net/Resources/Supermarine/Spitfire/ or buy here: http://www.iwmshop.org.uk/product/16965/Pilots_Notes_Spitfire_Trilogy

[quote=diveplane;808292 wow your old man fly spits in ww2? No, he was a Royal Navy Marine Engineer in WW2, then transferred to the Fleet Air Arm in 1946 and became a test pilot. I see from his log book that the next aircraft he flew was a Seafire 47, so at a guess during his training at the Empire Test Pilot's course he was being given experience in different types.

Yes, they use haze effect to hide that details are not clear. I am sure you have flown in airliners at 30,000 ft. Even at this height, the ground is very clear. It is not a criticism for what is an air-2-air sim, it is a difficult problem to solve with a PC and the current fidelity of monitors. As you know, we have a draw distance of about 20Km, which is adequate for realistic CAS operations.

Very many thanks will test tomorrow. Here is the real data from the Pilots Notes for a Spitfire MkIIa and MkIIb as published in June 1940, just before the Battle of Britain: Engine Limitation RPM Boost Max take-off to 1000 ft 3,000 12.5 Max Climbing limit 2.850 9 Combat 5 min limit 3,000 12 Diving - Max rpm 3,600 (3,000 rpm only exceed for 30 secs with throttle not less than one third open) Combat: 3,000 rpm may be used above 20,000 ft for periods not exceeding 30 mins. Max Speed (mph IAS) Diving 450 - will become tail heavy and should be trimmed into the dive Undercarriage down 160 Flaps down 140 Take-off Do not start to climb before 140 mph Climbing Up to 15,000 ft max rate is obtained at 160 mph ASIR However Ground to 13,000 ft 185 ASIR etc etc 30,000 ft to 35,000 ft 110 mph ASIR (comment, I can not get the Spit to fly above 15,000) Stalling Will stall with one wing down. Indication is a violent shudder and a clattering noise. Standard recovery procedure. Flaps and undercarriage up 73 mph ASIR Flaps and undercarriage down 64 mph ASIR Spinning Not below 10,000 ft, recovery before 5,000 ft. Speed of 150 mph before easing out of dive. Aerobatics looping - 300 mph, but 220 if pilot is very experienced Rolling - 180-300 mph - start with nose 30 degrees above horizon HALF ROLL OFF LOOP - 350-400 MPH Upward Roll - 350-400 mph Flick Rolls - NOT ALLOWED Landing Approach at 140 mph and then go through standard checklist of Undercarriage, Mixture Control RICH, Pitch (prop control fully forward), Flaps. Final approach - Engine = 85 mph, Glide = 90 mph Hope this is of interest - you can test against IL2, Microsoft etc. At TFC we only have a MkV and a MkXIV Spitfire so can not warrant that the Pilots Notes are correct for a MKII! However shaking before the stall seems to happen for all MKs! Cheers Jim

Ok - all controls working OK. Checking the terrain which is excellent low down, but is fudged above 5,000 ft. Checked Spitfire Mk II performance against the Pilots Notes published in June 1940 (My Dad's copy). There apppears to be no correlation between reality and the simulation. The key figures on the top left of the screen are in metric, but instruments are correctly in Imperial. Is there an option to change metric to Imperial?

Just got this title. In Controls setup there is not a CH option. Which should I choose - gamepad?
  16. As you know, we do not at the moment declare sales figures for DCS;Back Shark. However, we are distributing in most countries throughout the world, in Russian, English, French, German and Spanish versions. The exception is South America where we only have a distributor in Colombia. As a guide, the United Arab Emerites have sold more than 2,000 copies.
  17. The Hurt Locker - it will become a classic
  18. The beta testers are working hard on getting Flaming Cliffs 2.0 to final code. Internally we are testing an early version of A-10C. For those of you have actually flown in real life a fixed wing aircraft, you will not be disappointed. Fly DCS:A-10C and you will be able to fly the real thing. But the learning curve will be steep. In real life it takes 3 months to convert from A-10A to A-10C and operate correctly all the systems - avionics, weapons etc. However, there will be an arcade mode for the console generation!
  19. If you check the Virtual Red Arrows team in VFAT you will see that Red9 is a lady. Most appropriate as the Red Arrows 2010 team will have its first female pilot!
  20. Finally - Amazon.co.uk is stocking the manual.
  21. I saw a documententary about Rolls Royce testing procedures. They shoot a large chicken carcase at speed into the engine, and it should have no effect on the engine. Not certain about a thanksgiving turkey!
  22. Not the full manual, only the quickstart in Hungarian.
  23. I too would prefer Helmand for our mil projects! However, do have a look at the Caucusas ares to the East. Several years into the the Russo/Afghan war, Russia realised it needed to change its standard tactics for Afghanistan, and set up several training camps in the Caucasus.
  24. Excellent
  25. That video was done over 2 years ago in the very early stages of development. Please use Wags's start up video.
