I do not think that Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering by Robert L Shaw has been mentioned is that everyone studying air combat knows about it! It is the BIBLE, everyone has to read it. I have often thought that Shaw should do an update, in the light of Gulf and Balkan wars, but on re-reading I feel it is not necessary as he had already covered the situations. The only amendment I would suggest is the introduction of off-boresight missiles and aiming systems. This does change some advice on ACM.

YoYo is on holiday at the moment. I am sure he will give an explanation when he returns!

For level flight: "Lynx helicopter, registered G-LYNX, flew a 15km course across the Somerset Levels at 500 ft on a calm hazy evening back in 1986 with Westland Chief Test Pilot Trevor Eggington at the controls and Derek Clews, Flight Test Engineer alongside. The average speed achieved over two runs was 249.1 mph (400.87 kph), beating the record held by a modified Mil “Hind” helicopter by over 20 mph (32 kph)." I do not think anyone has recorded a max speed in a dive!

Black Shark does support D-Box, and it is a great experience! -
I saw this at a military trade show (ITEC) - http://www.cyberflightuavs.com/ Key points:- Option of an electric motor so you can not hear it when it is high. Clever sensor software so you can lock onto a target/person and the sensor tracks the target without you having to fiddle with the view controls.

Just read Ed Macy's new book "Hellfire". As good as his previous book "Apache", A lot of interesting info on helo tactics in Afghanistan. When I get a moment to spare I want to create a series of missions similar to those he experienced in Helmand province.

I have checked, and there is not a simple answer. Firstly, it depends on the memory size of the customer's PC (as all the map is loaded and not spooled). Secondly, it depends on the numbers of objects (buildings etc) place in the map. So you could have a large area with few objects, or a smaller map with very many objects (as in Sevastapol). Will you be including Helmand province?

Sorry, I should have been more exact. TFC can supply manuals to anywhere in the world: http://fighter-collection.com/pages/tfc/flight%20simulation/index.php

The manual is available at Europe Simware: http://www.simw.com/ RC Simulations: http://www.rcsimulations.com/ TFC:http://www.fighter-collection.com/pages/tfc/flight%20simulation/index.php (see what it is like to fly a display in a P51: http://www.airgage.co.uk/video.html - "Jim has a flight in Moose") North America http://www.gogamer.com/ (currently out of stock but will have new supplies by Friday) Asia Pacific http://www.mindscape.net.au/ We submitted the book to the various Amazon sites 3 months ago, but their buyers and systems are so so slow! Yes - we looked at the colour option and it would have added £10 to the cost, which we did not think was reasonable for you all. A clip as opposed to coil bound would have added another £6.

I think we need to consider probability tables of death and injury on infantry under air attack. We have a number of situations: 1) Infantry walking in open order, and do not hear any danger of attack, and remain standing. 2) Infantry hear danger (sound of aircraft/helo) and will immediately go to ground/cover etc. As the infantry in DCS currently have simple AI, they are shown as walking in open order. Though in practice, if they hear danger, they would have gone to ground and death/injury probability is significantly reduced. So it is an exercise in probablity on reaction of the troops, which is not currently modelled. I am sure you all have heard reports from Iraq/Afghanistan. Attacks launched from a high height, where the target can not hear the aircraft/UAV, will result in the target not taking cover. However if the targets hear an Apache or A-10 coming in at low level, then the sensible thing is to take cover, reducing probability of death/injury. So I consider the correct effectiveness of low level air attacks on infantry is reasonably close.

Yep - as my instructor on fixed wing used to yell at me - "Think that you are gently stroking a girl, and not playing at being a b****y batsman at cricket (or baseball for our none UK & Aus friends).
