Someone already beat you to them last week.

I have a set I'm willing to part with. I got them as a part of an eBay auction and didn't need them. When I got them they were in the original box and unsealed, but never removed. I've taken them out and hooked them up just to see if I could get any use out of them, but didn't find them useful in VR. PM me and we can discuss it, but I'm thinking $50 + shipping.

Potential Hardware issue... Need guru
panton41 replied to bladewalker's topic in Game Performance Bugs
No, don't touch the page file, set it to automatic and just let Windows handle it. What you said was true 20 years ago, but not so much today. Microsoft knows more than you ever will about the needs of Windows and how it uses the pagefile. -

I'll bet money it's the fact you have it on an old, slow spinning rust hard drive. Though 12 minutes is excessive. Once you'd loaded the game and module either Windows or DCS (or both) keeps parts memory resident so they load faster next time. Honestly, seeing how inexpensive drives are these days, I'd upgrade both the HDD and SDD. You could more than double both drives for just over $100 total, especially if you watch for sales. -
Most likely "holiday" as in British English for "vacation." And I can tell you a job in the US that gives you months of vacation time: Working in education.

I've been playing flight sims in some form or another for as long as I can remember, but there's a lot of basic skills I've never learned because of the nature of older sims as well as simple frustration with learning it. A few that come to mind is simply landing, navigation, as well as formation flying and aerial refueling. It's kind of embarrassing that I can shoot down planes and drop bombs just fine, but getting back to base and landing eludes me. Can anyone recommend user or official missions for DCS that could help teach those basic skills? I have the F-5E module specifically because it's so similar to the T-38 I felt like a simpler plane to learn on would help, but so far no luck trying things on my own. I'm also considering getting X-Plane 11 to learn the basics on a general aviation plane (plus, just to have).

I did something similar when I was in Explorer Scouts in high school in maybe 1996. I took a short hop in a Piper Tomahawk out of KLOU (Bowman Field in Louisville, Kentucky). Just after take off the instructor gave me the controls and told me to fly toward Ten Mile Island in the Ohio River, up to the George Rogers Clark Bridge then back over downtown when he took control back for approach and landing. Unfortunately, I can't get a medical certificate for the same reasons I can't join the military, so DCS and X-Plane are the closest I can get to flying the real thing.

FA-18C Aggressors BFM Campaign
panton41 replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in F/A-18C Aggressors BFM Campaign
Off the top of my head, I'd say it's because the scenario is intended as a teaching tool for basic fighter maneuvering skills and 5 seconds of firing time simply wouldn't be useful for what they're teaching. -
I can play at 4K, with everything on high, with a Ryzen 1700, 32GB RAM and GeForce 1070. I've not tried super complex battles, and the same settings make VR chug to the point of being unplayable in complex scenarios, but it's possible.

Great, now I have some light reading material for those downtimes at work.

Vietnam?

I'm reading "Hornets Over Kuwait" by Jay Stout and he mentions the ability to have the Hornet automatically transmit a tone over the selected radio when a bomb is dropped. (Location 2823 in the Kindle Unlimited edition.) Has anyone else heard about this capability and are there any plans to implement it? In the book they used it to help them keep an eye on their wingman while they dropped bombs on Iraqi emplacements.

I've found resetting the room sensing in the WMR app fixes that. I had it happen just last night, in fact. I'll sometimes move my VR seat across the room and need to do that reset.

how is everyone dealing with clickable cockpit in VR?
panton41 replied to hannibal's topic in Virtual Reality
Aiming the mouse with my head and "clicking" with buttons on the HOTAS did it for me. I'd been avoiding play at all because the immersion was amazing, until you were forced to break it to reach for the mouse. I found Elite: Dangerous was more approachable in VR because you could map everything you need to the HOTAS, but I simply got bored with Elite. Immersion breaking is probably the worst thing that can happen in a VR game and I've met exactly one game that did it well. -
A lot of those are system you've not turned them on (for example, COM1 and COM2 are probably the radios), but quite a few are unimplemented features in the game "failing" because they're not finished being programmed.

it's because Michael Ironsides is such a funny guy...

That's cute, but I bought it from Steam. They have their own refund policy. Plus ELUAs aren't worth the paper they're printed on (and they're rarely ever printed on paper, so...) and are totally unenforceable in many jurisdictions.
-
I requested a refund because it's unplayable in VR.
-
I'm trying to get a Steam refund because of this issue, among other things. It's simply not worth the price.

I fixed it, but it was related to changing the settings for radio behavior. I still can't get Voice Attack top work. It's complaining that PTT isn't set, but yet again, it works fine in other modules. Does Easy Communications work with this module?
-
Edit: It was related to a radio setting in the Special page of Settings that had to be set back to default.
-
Left-alt - \ doesn't do anything either. It's mapped correctly (and I remapped it per suggestion) it's simply not working. Even mapping it to a button on the throttle doesn't work.
-
When I press \ to open the communications menu during a cold start nothing happens. It works fine in other modules and is mapped correctly in the Controls setting page, but doesn't do anything in F-14. Along with that, it doesn't work with Voice Attack and VIACOM Pro either. I've already verified and fixed files.
