This is really disappointing, totally bummed out... ...no final official stance on the Austin Allegro, I'm uninstalling everything and burning my rig. . . . Or maybe not.

Is it possible to purchase/subscribe to an old/er version of 3D Studio Max, specifically 2016? Scouring through Autodesk's site I'm coming up blank, if they do offer this in some form then I am assuming they're deliberately obfuscating the process, or you can save in 2016 format/feature set, else I missed something obvious.

Let's not allow ourselves to slip into wish land too far, else I'd be stating Sea Harriers and Mirage IIIs

Looking at new pc...any good?

This is a great point. read access to the source material is a must, regardless of where the OS resides. -

The GPU might let you down, but all else looks good. -
So if anything the module needs to be adjusted to reflect the lack of carrier-based marinisation, if it doesn't already.
-
I don't think the undercarriage of the F-5 is even marinised either.

It won't be an issue and in case you're curious about it; you can actually view the models of the paid aircraft in the mission editor viewer etc.

Wish adding Third-Party maps or map store
ouPhrontis replied to foxford's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think the decision to control who has the ability to add what type of content is a wise one, so as to not inadvertently taint the brand with silliness, like flying teapots, or phalluses. -
One would assume so, say for run-up tests or IFR the Heuer montecarlo style stop-watch is there and the pushers are selectable but currently don't function.

Fantastic stuff, i'll be certainly interested in your progress with the campaign. As you say airtime is the thing, self discipline going hand-in-hand, one thing that drums in to muscle memory for the basics is circuit bashing and sticking to the 'numbers', that is obeying pattern height and trying to grease every landing, maintaining the center-line on climb out etc. Outside of the sim, one note of caution (which you might already be familiar with) is the TrackIR Pro clip is really fragile, all is not lost if it does snap though, someone on this forum makes wireless replacements (I am in no way affiliated with them). So, if it were me; nail the circuit bashing first, then start navigating from one airbase to the next, the great thing about maps like Georgia is that some basic approach plates are available for most of the airports/bases, which detail joining information, so you can try to obey those. How do you like the Warthog?

I'd been going on about how a flyable S-3 would be great, due to its multi-role billing back in the day, wasn't aware of the A-3 re: tanking. Perhaps we could look forward to this being a scene entirely with players;

Not surprised, 4k resolution, everything appears to be enabled, assuming everything cranked all the way up. It really will come down to turning something down, be it shadows, motion blur, reducing AA, one or all these things. I had to follow links in your signature soup to find your spec's, which for those not wishing to dig; GPU: GeForce GTX 1080 CPU: Intel® Core i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz Memory: 32 GB RAM (31.92 GB RAM usable) Current resolution: 3840 x 2160, 60Hz Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Worse FPS/Perfomance With GTX 1070 vs GTX 970?
ouPhrontis replied to Womb_Raider's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Your 850 Evo even if it was throttled to SATA2 would be a-okay for DCS, Win 7 is fine too, at least here there's no issue. Yup, I think we all experience FPS drops with other Hornets in view, the LoD models apparently need refining, shadows combined with that really hurt the frame-rate before. -
Blue Thunder! The offspring of a coupling between an SA-341 and AH-64.

The hardy taliwagon, or technical. Surprised that something like that isn't already in.

As a rule of thumb, for general cruising; keep the manifold and engine RPM in the green bands, what are called the operating ranges, keep a close eye on the temperatures and pressures (as you know you probably heard this already; the Ts and Ps), because this is modelled with the P-51, it harms the engine if you operate the engine for prolonged periods of time outside those operating ranges, even if the Ts&Ps look okay, operating outside those green bands is okay for take-off, or ACM etc, but for matters of seconds. I found some figures from an actual P-51 manual; Max continuous; engine RPM: 2700 MP: 46 I haven't checked, but there should be a plaque in the 'pit somewhere with some more operating information, those figures are probably true for the P-51 modelled in DCS and will also coincide with the green operating bands on the gauges.
-
What manifold pressure, prop' pitch/RPM settings are you running, for how long and so on, because there's a lot of power there, but not necessarily good to be gunning it at length.

ATC at Hurn were pretty good with me, but then it might've been because either they had me orbiting over a sewage treatment plant for over 20 minutes one time, or that if we had special guests at the club-house I could beat them to it, and finish off all cake before they got a look-in. My taxi speeds were typically at 15kts, though as I say I'd take it to almost 30 if anything big was waiting on me, usually Ryanair. Yup the running pace thing was from an instructor and with small single engine piston-prop with nothing fancy fitted in the 'pit.

MiG-21 used to be my favorite ride... can't stand it now
ouPhrontis replied to streakeagle's topic in MiG-21Bis
Yes, I understand the changes are not from the third-party developer, but due to changes made to the DCS rendering engine. I empathize with the 3rd party dev' on this, because you can spend ages fine tuning objects to look a certain way for one environment (in this case an environment that they do not have direct control over) and so it requires redoing over again when the engine is altered. -
Ah, observation fail. Yeah I'd have no chance going VR with this.

Fighter Pilots BBC doumentary series

I'll be sure to search for and watch that. If you're lost as to what to watch next after that; RAF training, from Chipmunk to F-4; -
I'm able to play it just fine at 1080p with most settings quite high. It'd help perhaps to see what settings you're on, as your graphics card trumps mine for performance.

Worse FPS/Perfomance With GTX 1070 vs GTX 970?
ouPhrontis replied to Womb_Raider's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Ah, nice. Looking at benchmarks it ought to outperform 970 as I'm sure you've already checked up on, though results will vary from program to program. Have you tested the cards in turn with anything else, like another game, or better yet a benchmark like Superposition from Unigine to see if this is DCS, or the card/PC?
