The Harrier has ViFF up its sleave if it comes to attempting to out-turn, or force an overshoot; It's not guaranteed, but I suspect that's why you struggled when it came to it becoming a turning fight. Use terrain and get in the weeds, make their speed an issue for them. With all said, they're aimed at - and used effectively in - the CAS role, not deliberately going head-to-head with fighters.

Well, perhaps rather than fictional islands; we can find actual places on the globe that would fit with the simulator; Near Islands, with Eareckson Station. Marshall Islands, with Roi Namur and Kwajalein, et al. Diego Garcia, with its Naval Support Facility. You'd then, if needs be have an alternate to fly to, but could also have the carrier group so far away from it to sate the need for exercises where you're too far out.

Is there a tactical map or something I can load on 2nd comp?

Nice one, yes that was a copy/paste fail on my part, I've corrected them now - aware you've posted the correct one, too, but corrected mine as well for completeness sake. -
http://www.filefactory.com/file/njg7wh7868d/A1-AV8BB-NFM-400.pdf Here are the actual performance charts, what you're looking for with fuel usage, are the tables for things like the optimum cruise Mach no. There are 'computer' tables where you can feed them numbers to obtain those figures.

Hehe, I probably misunderstood Brun's question, reflecting it's probably about where one can get it printed. That's quite a few sheets there, double-sided?

Maybe I am missing something in Tacview, but I don't find that terribly useful for watching pilot inputs, it's great from a tactical overview, though what would be more useful is the .trk file that DCS itself builds.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

I've started to push up the throttle to max at a FARP before when someone spawned in, thankfully in part due to the turbine lag I was able to stop proceedings before it went boom. -
Not sure where the best place to put this is, but it is along the lines of what you're asking: As it is possible to put camera displays on objects, as within cockpits; it'd be nice for the PLAT-cam to be visible on the console of the LSO platform, as it is in reality, best of both worlds, and have the LSO platform the player position, instead of the PLAT-cam.

The Hornet didn't readily spin for me, but this was a quick dabble without disabling any FBW tricks that might've been fighting me. This was going to a steady climb to a sensible altitude, pull the power to idle, attempt to maintain pitch/climb until onset of buffet, to stick hard-back and then full deflection of rudder with out-spin aileron, which resulted in a steady, slow spiral of mushing in at a high rate of descent, no dramatic flicks etc.

The Harrier isn't too bad at A2A, just need to play to its strengths. As others pointed out for a missile shot; not only be closer so the missile has energy in the bag for maneuvering, but also lead the shot, as it'll aid in not wasting the missiles energy pulling G to get that lead on target. So acquire lock, then bring the nose out to guesstimated lead (there should be quite a bit of leaway before lock is lost) and then Fox 2. Of course if you're just pulling straight in on the 6 of someone flying straight and level; then this doesn't apply.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

Ah, 'FARP', so you're talking about an AV-8B on the LHAs, I thought you were talking about the F-18 on a Nimitz and opting out of using the cat', I just started to picture all kinds of accidents waiting to happen with people trying to use the whole deck like a strip. -
Combat aircraft and Hollywood; they'll do us proud, what could possibly go wrong? ... ...alien visitation, time travel, Clint Eastwood's Russian accent, teenage droid stealing an SR-71 (okay I actually quite liked that one as a kid).

I have it from a former F-18 driver that no finger-lift is necessary to go to reheat through mil stop, it's apparently a bump, rather than a hard-stop.

Surely you line up for cat? -edit-; i.e. you should not be trying to use the full deck like it's an airstrip. -
Chopping down .trk files would be very interesting indeed, say saving an arbitrary portion of time. As for corrupted/unreliable .trk files, I've not encountered that yet, I've accelerated files to a silly amount to the point they've started skipping chunks of time, and yet on selecting 1:1 time they've displayed what was occurring at the time faithfully, or appeared to.

I only saw the two carriers, is there a Tarawa class planned or perhaps I overlooked one? Kudos to Ciribob for putting them in as it really adds to the theatre. I really appreciate the work and time you've put in. Plea to those with F-18s; (I have the F-18 module and chose not to use it on BF until I am familiar with it, I can aviate but that's not enough) learning how to get to grips with the F-18 may not best be done on BF, as it is currently leading to a lot of blue-on-blue, and the occasional but ridiculous declarations of 'raygun' in the text chat, again; this is not reasonable. -
All previous modules have merged with stable, so I suspect yes. Though when that will happen will be about when they feel a certain percentage of the F-18 has been implemented to a satisfactory level. People running OB essentially helping test it, refine it, and hopefully submit helpful bug reports.

I thought FA18 had a hands off stick carrier launch?
ouPhrontis replied to silent one's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yes, the DSC approximation of this is to have mil to reheat a push-through, no finger-lifts necessary, finger-lifts only required for idle to off. Finger lift is not required to apply reheat, which when regarding a bolter with tail-hook down makes sense. -

ouPhrontis replied to silent one's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I understand that the F-18 has no finger-lift for engaging reheat, it's just a detent that can be pushed through. -
I've noticed that having shadows set (non-flat) even the Tarawa as well as the Nimitz class suffer from frame drops by around half, that go once airborne - most likely because LoD decreases and there's far less facet count to build shadows for.

Second this, and also to see crew at the LSO platform. The problem is of course that modelling convincing humans is tough, the human brain is great as calling out a fake, plus; I think it'd be difficult to have humans in certain areas due to not knowing where the human pilots would go and you'd have people taxi into/through them, but particular areas like lining up for the cat (maybe?), or crew at the LSO platform could be reasonable to implement.
