  4. I have a MiG-29 9.12/9.13/9.12-13S manual saying the S model can carry the T/ET. It is a pylon, it is the same between Flanker and Fulcrum. I’m sure it’s just about what it’s programmed to “see”
  5. I had always read the APU-470 carried nitrogen for it. Perhaps there are versions of it, or perhaps the nitrogen is just not in it when not needed leading to misunderstandings

Sure, but having to judge in your head velocity by aspect and change in the range scale over time (usual in a scale of 25/50/100 km depending on range at BVR distance) is a poor replacement for actually knowing velocity, especially in BVR when a target speed will have a very large impact on the threat of their missiles. We will have to use Lazur or GCI/AWACs to truly know if the target is matching us in speed or significantly deviating One thing the Su-27 HUD also does better. Along with velocity in 5 kmh increments. Right HUD border, elevation carat on HUD, notch marker, IRST dish displacement marker, more Lazur/Beryuza commands, etc

  8. It is called “SP” or “Free Search” mode. Operates like any other mode but instead of range shows velocity. Soviet pilots weren’t fans. However, I am starting to feel differently after realizing that MiG-29 9.12/9.13 HUD does not show target velocity (or likely height) when locked in STT………. Very sad
  9. I have the same book. Yes, he mentions only really using rockets and guns. The only use case I can imagine that they are useful is anti infantry at close range against troops that might not even shoot back. For example, it has even less explosive in it in DCS then your 30mm HE bullets! Which can be aimed up to 3.5 km away!

  11. There is good reason crews in Afghanistan “took them only under threat of punishment.” Im sure they tried employing them by all the ways the table give, and realized they were dead weight. I find their ballistics only becomes horizontal enough to be remotely predictable at about 1 km. Which is usually death close. There are tables for horizontal, dive, and even loft attack. I wouldn’t be surprised if most have been cannibalized for air to ground use, where the AGS-30 Palmyra grenade launcher actually becomes useful. I have seen only one good use case for them, a calendar. It sounds like to me you have done all the dialing in and proper use physically capable with such a useless weapon

  14. 0.07 degree/s is the limit. Its computer and actuators just can’t stabilize and do such small movements while slewing at the same time. Becuase of this is one reason that you see IRL Mi-24 often only target vehicles while flying straight at them. This way the operator doesn’t need to constantly slew on target as the perspective changes since it’s not ground stabilized. The Mi-35M and its FLIR/TV turret doesn’t completely solve this either, just halves it at 0.035 degree/s.

  16. Yes it would be great. I’m not aware of any other modifications that would need to be paired with it. Afrer FF MiG-29 is released with new physical based SPO-15 model, I believe we would have good ground to stand on for an update of Mi-24 with it and checkbox allowing SPO-10 or SPO-15 in ME. We do have the practically last model of Mi-24P produced. I do wonder if the Russian Mi-24P with L-006/SPO-15 are a batch of export models that were never delivered and instead used for domestic service.
  17. Is any controlled post stall a cobra them? I was always under the belief that what makes Cobra unique, is that is achieved 90 degrees or more of AOA. A MiG-21 will never do that unless it’s some sort of sub 100 kmh tail slide
  18. I have achieved 120 km in DCS flying 15-17 km at Mach 2+ against MiG-31 going Mach 2+ at co altitude. However, DLZ shows this is more limited by radar range against the 10m squared EPR of MiG-31.
