Actually no, temporary runway repairs can be carried out in a matter of hours by most NATO air forces (usually done by Army engineers) utilising gravel and other aggregate stored on/near the airfield in airfield damage repair piles and covered with roll out metal sheeting. The only time this isn’t the case if where area denial weapons (mines) are used alongside penetrating bombs. This is why JP233 had both cratering bomblets and mines. And even where mines are used they can be cleared in hours or a few days at worst by competent army engineers. This was an essential part of Cold War preparations.

A/G training location on map?
Eddie replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Theres also the NTTR data pages to go along with the mission here: http://www.476vfightergroup.com/nttr/nttr.php Make sure you’ve got the range targets installed too otherwise the mission will be empty. -

Because they are not shorter, they are longer, as has been pointed out. So while you’re correct that RADAR can see through cloud, you are incorrect in your statement that it’s because the wavelengths are shorter.

Why are the most unrealistic servers the most popular?
Eddie replied to Boris's topic in Multiplayer
People fly how they want to fly, and how they enjoy playing the game, simple as that. However, the nature of DCS inherently favours the less realistic more casual play styles, and those of us who enjoy more realism based play have to employ a lot of workarounds, outside tools, and compromises to do so. Ultimately, realistic mission profiles are not possible outside of highly organised, private servers used by either individual or cooperating groups. And even then, DCS can’t do any mission profile in that close to a truly realistic way as there are too many elements of modern aerial (and surface) combat absent. -
No, you want impact for vehicles. Delay is indeed for attacking structures.
-
Indeed. But more useful, and more accurate, would be for the tankers to set their speed based on the receiver aircraft type automatically. Optimum speeds for tankers and receiver combinations are in the publicly available NATO ATP-56.
-
It is, at least in a level delivery. The point is that manually entering wind data does not give any notable increase in accuracy over the IFFCCs automatic wind correction. Far greater accuracy is attainable by simply using a more accurate delivery method. Ultimately manually entering wind data is trying to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist in the first place. This is something I and others have explained in depth several times in other threads.

DCS: F/A-18C Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)

Yep, used to both drive abort cues and select which arming wire(s) is pulled on weapon release.
-
You can’t physically change the fusing on bombs in flight, it has to be done by the weapons crews on the ground. The pilot simply sets the aircraft to match the weapons. The exception being joint programmable fuse etc of smart weapons with a data connection to the aircraft.

Large USB button to replicate countermeasures button?
Eddie replied to dadunn1700's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
The stainless version wasn’t available when I got mine, but the plastic is plenty strong enough for the job in my opinion. They really do work perfectly, the key command configuration is stored on the buttons themselves, so no need to run any software in the background either. -
Large USB button to replicate countermeasures button?
Eddie replied to dadunn1700's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I use a couple of these: http://www.usbbutton.com/ One for for the cockpit wall slap switch, and one for emergency jettison. Very easy to program and well priced as well. -
Real world UHF is used for most inter flight, AWACS and other C2, Tankers, ATC, and FAC. VHF is generally used for intra flight. VHF/FM is pretty much exclusively used for JTAC comms. The reason for this is that, in addition to the UHF bands being less “busy”, UHF radios have the Havequick Anti-Jam functionality.

As it’s not present for any other aircraft I don’t see it likely it’ll suddenly be modelled with the Viper.

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread
Eddie replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
That’s a test and eval aircraft, not to be confused with operational fleet jets. Just because one specific airframe can/has carried certain stores config doesn’t mean they all can. T&E jets have upgrades and bespoke wiring installed that won’t hit the operational fleet for several years, if ever. -

RWS-SAM is Range While Search Situation Awareness Mode, it performs a similar function to LTWS in the Hornet. -
Yep, we have a moving map display rather than a TAD really.

Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!
Eddie replied to WHOGX5's topic in Bugs and Problems
Cyprus is the location of one of the primary NATO bases in the region and where a large number of aircraft operate from in the region. So yes, its presence in the map or not is important. Not being there wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be a real shame. -
No, no it isn’t.
-
No to both. As long as your SPI is at the target location to provide the correct release solution, and the TGP is slewed to that location (either area or point track) it’s fine. Point track is for moving targets, area for static.
-
This would not be at all realistic. As pointed out above, 15° or 25° AOB is the standard for tankers. 30°-60° AOB is the norm for tactical aircraft in non-combat phase of flight (ie CAP/Holding orbit). If anything the AI in DCS needs to be adjusted to manoeuvre more conservatively, using lower roll/pitch rates etc.
-
No. They are optional. And if they are entered and the weapon determines in can’t hit the target (due to being released outside of the LAR) it’ll sacrifice speed first, then heading, and lastly angle in order to impact the coordinates.
-
Remember that the A-10C doesn’t feature JDAM PB functionality in real life either, TOO only.
-
That’s the workaround that has been used so far. But considering an E-3 has 10 UHF radios available to the controllers in reality, it’s still a very limiting workaround. With large multi-flight packages it also creates a lot of additional complexity in missions, especially missions with large number of units designed to run for many days.
