How to tell distance from carrier abeam on downwind/reciprocal/180?
erautour replied to Gnat's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yes. The 1.6 referenced in the other post was DME you should see when completing your break IF you broke at 1.0nm past the ship. From hat 1.6 flying 180 of BRC will put you 1.2nm abeam. For your turning short issue... when you get to the 90 add a quick glance at the boat to check lineup to your scan. Adjust your AOB as necessary to roll out in the groove -
So you don't have to watch 3 hours of videos. 17:20 in this one

Even before the reduced gear drag in the latest hotfix burner in the pattern was never needed unless you really get behind the jet or screw something up. The book says 39k lbs is max weight for “flared” landings. I’m not flaring on touchdown but staying under that weight keeps the jet controllable in the pattern. As far as knowing when you’re in burner you should be able to tell by looking at the fuel flow on the IFEI. To set up the proper detent on my HOTAS I used the exterior view and adjusted the throttle curve until AB and the detent matched up. Ideally I’d like to see what they have in BMS where you can just move your throttle(s) to your detent and tell the game that’s when you want AB to be selected.

Yes Wags does it @ 4:05 in this video

Case 1 Trim after gear down, first, or after both gear and flaps?
erautour replied to Oban's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Pull back on the stick. Until you get the jet trimmed on-speed you’re gonna need some back pressure to either stay straight and level or control your descent to 600ft. As you bring in the trim is when you start releasing the back pressure until she’s on-speed. In my experience the pitch down moment is much less pronounced that it was at launch. It feels like you have an eternity now to catch it. Practice and you’ll get the rhythm down. -

[DON'T UNDERSTAND] Turn rate indicator doesn't function
erautour replied to Precog's topic in Bugs and Problems
OP appears to be correct -
Mine will stay like that unless I select an A2A weapon. Elevation works but the limits will still just be opposites of each other. When I select a weapon it starts to operate normally.

You shouldn't be pulling to get into the bracket. If I'm pulling on the stick with the gear and flaps out it's to maintain altitude as I add a little power and bring in the trim to hit 600 feet. I'm pulling on the stick to fly the plane, I'm trimming to get into the bracket if that makes sense. To answer your question how do you transition... as you add nose up trim you should be relaxing the back pressure on the stick until you're on-speed and don't require pitch inputs. It's kinda like driving a manual transmission car. As you ease off the clutch you ease into the accelerator. Afaik there isn't a way to recenter the trim. You shouldn't really be concerned with the actual value or how much is applied. It's a tool to get on-speed. Slow = nose down, fast= nose up.

That post is over a month old and has been addressed already

In my experience whichever radio you manually tune a freq will have it's presets screwed. It doesn't seem to affect every freq iirc. Like I said earlier I've been tuning manual freqs on Comm 1 (mainly to get AWACS info) and that has hasn't affected any of the presets on Comm 2. Do it the other way and the presets on Comm 1 are fine. Tune manually on both and you are

Someone posted about it the other day either here or on Reddit. It's been happening to me since last night so I've been only using manual on Radio 1 and that seems to keep the presets intact on Radio 2.

lol I'm the guy telling everyone else to stop flying out 4 miles on downwind. I don't do Case III online...

Radar antenna elevation. The upper and lower limits of your scan. Mapped to the right stick on the controller

The Aero server is the only one that I've really lost the TACAN signal consistently. We figured some time ago that it was from people crashing into the back of the boat which happens ALL THE TIME on there

The link is there, watch it on YouTube

I've been using this. If you hit the numbers especially 400ft at 1 mile things are significantly easier

I started to use mine for trim when flying with asymmetrical loadouts but then kept adding functions. No trackir so I'm down a few buttons and hats since they're used for view control. Currently I have the TDC, TDC designate, wing trim, gear, fuel dump, antenna elevation and engine idle/cutoff mapped.

WPDSG on the right side of the HSI page. The only issue is if you do multiple passes you have to re-box WPDSG since you lose the diamond when you un-designate and go into CCIP. Not a big deal but something to keep it mind.

Just tried it in the Stingers LSO mission. 49800 lbs - full fuel, 3 tanks, 4 Mk 83s, 2x 9M, 2x 7M 19° NU stab trim, half flaps Took off just fine

I routinely fly @ FL410 and M1.5+ with 3 external tanks in the Aerobatics Online server otw to the west carrier. A couple times I dropped the bags and she accelerated past M1.7 before I had to descend.

Get a check trim warning after a landing on carrier.

At the 90 (when you are 90° from BRC) you should start adding a quick look at the boat to your scan so you can adjust your AOB to roll out lined up. Don't expect to stay at 30° all the way to the groove. Extend your downwind just a hair and keep on doing what you're doing to roll out lined up.
