If you reference the time on the clock at each of the flare markers we can see that... With Normal Size set, the shooter receives blinking TID 5 seconds before target gets RWR pitbul signal. With Small Size set, the shooter receives blinking TID 5 seconds after target gets RWR pitbull signal. With Large Size set, the shooter receives blinking TID 10 seconds before target gets RWR pitbul signal. If what DSplayer says about the missile actually going active at 10, but the RWR is implementing a delay, then probably Normal Size matches up the best, IMO.

Sure, and many also say the AIM-54 was designed to counter non-maneuvering bombers. That does not mean it can't be used against other types of targets when employed correctly. As I said in the post you quoted, fighters that don't know they are being tracked by a passive missile often do not maneuver, and fly in a similar way to an AWACS or bomber. Whether or not the missile can intercept a maneuvering target is not really what is being questioned.
-
One thing I'll say to that, is that fighters that don't know there is a passive-tracking missile inbound often fly in a non-maneuvering way that allows them to be hit by weapons they might've evaded if they knew they were inbound. Russians have an anti-radiation version of R-27 and Shrikes/Harms have been a thing forever. It seems like a simple enough technology for a Sparrow to go into an HOJ mode that would theoretically allow it to track passively to a jammer. Is there a source that specifies the AIM-7 could not do this? I know ED is questionable sometimes, but I assume they gave the Sparrow a passive-tracking HOJ ability based on some type of semi-reliable information. (Or do I have too much faith in them? )

F14 - Positionlights only work when on ground
Callsign JoNay replied to LOW_Hitman's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If there is any wing sweep at all, the wing tip lights are replaced by the wing glove lights. -
News as per January 22 / 2023: -All recruitment is closed at this point in time except for LotATC and F-15E. -Yes, the F-15E squadron is officially OPEN for recruiting at the 51st VFW. We expect the Strike Eagle to be one of, if not the, most popular module in DCS. Spots are limited and expected to fill up fast! So don't delay, and get your application in via the discord application. F-15 work ups have already begun, using the FC3/F-15C Eagle as a trainer/placeholder aircraft.

Random Phoenix question... There's been so many changes to the missile in the last year, it's hard for me to keep track. Do any of the Phoenix variants HOJ now? Can you get sneaky passive tracking kills like you can with the Sparrow? Or does it just burn through at a certain range and go active like normal?

@KaronThat's super cool, thanks for shaeing. Are you collecting/charting data on the time of the intercept too? For example in your 20 mile data, the missiles you loft at 40-deg are intercepting the bandit with a higher speed at impact than the missiles lofted at 10-deg and auto lofted, but surely the time of flight of the missiles was longer. No?

Missing F14 Probe Light on latest Beta
Callsign JoNay replied to TEMPEST.114's topic in Bugs and Problems
That could be what's going on. I suspect it might be aimed too low, also. You won't see it reflect light off the basket in DCS unless you are about to miss high. The light is useless if your probe is properly lined up with the basket as you approach. Maybe the cone of light needs to be adjusted wider in all directions. -
That's weird, it works consistently for me. I manually level my wings to less than +/- 5 deg, then engage AP, flip the heading hold up for a couple seconds while the wings level themselves the rest of the way, then flip the heading hold back off.
-
I don't know if it's known by the devs, but it's known by me. I usually just turn it on for 2 seconds to have it level my wings, and then turn it off again. The Tomcat is still subject to cross winds after that, but at least your wings are perfectly level.

Yes I know, there is a photo of it in the original post. It's a bug that needs to be fixed. I was just telling you that you can remove the chocks as the RIO even in flight as a work around until it's fixed.
-
As a human RIO you can solve that by requesting ground crew to remove chocks yourself. You don't need to be near the ground crew, you can even do it when airborne.

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)

Thanks. It's been irking me that both the Driver and RIO are named Ben O'Neil. HB, please. -
F-14B Tomcat recruiting is temporarily closed. Re-opening in March.

Does anyone know where textures for the new pilot body are located? More specifically how to mod the nametag? -
Yeah, this has been a thing since forever. Airboss and scripted miz files like Bankler's calculate groove time properly, I'm not sure why the built in trap sheet can't.

Here's some new footage from one of our A2G FAC-A/CAS weekly missions: We are currently recruiting for: AV-8B, F-14B, AH-64D (and other helos), and LotATC at the time of this forum post. F/A-18C, F-16C, and A-10C squadrons are currently closed, but accepting names for the waitlist. F-15E squadron will be ready to start recruiting on day-1 of the module release.

Missing F14 Probe Light on latest Beta
Callsign JoNay replied to TEMPEST.114's topic in Bugs and Problems
You could roll back your install to the version of the game where think it was working differently. Or share an older screenshot or video from a previous flight (even if it's someone else's video). Or at least show us some kind of picture of it not working in your current install. I showed you a picture in your other identical bug report that my probe light functions. It's terrible, and isn't helpful at all, but it functions the way it has always functioned in previous patches. -
I used to use ATC too, just because it was fun/different, but it doesn't play well with DLC. If you DLC forward to kill some lift, the ATC automatically adds power which is the opposite of what you want in that moment, and visa versa if you want to use DLC aft to add lift. I'm not sure if that's realistic? Seems like Grumman would've been smarter than to design it that way, but what do I know? ATC became not worth the hassle for me after the burble was implemented, so I just use manual throttle now.
