    FCLP

And in fact FCLP is a carrier touch and go without the angled deck and burble and less chance of dying when a mistake is made. Personally I air start aft of the boat (which in my world makes it a submarine, but I try to stick to terminology) and do my FCLP in a much more realistic, ie on the carrier, manner. Angled deck, burble, and very little chance of actually dying. Not that I'd object to a portable IFOLS (there's a mod, but it's not the greatest) and some extra paint on the runway. There aren't many NASs out there that don't have a deck painted on at least one runway, and from what I've read any time you take off in training it's five or ten bounces on the ball to get back. So...an IFOLS GV and new runway skins... That might make my carrier landings something I wouldn't be embarrassed to let my cat see...
  2. Open door, get into airplane, close door. Seat belt. Key in slot. Turn key until engines start (use the right pedal as needed, but this does have fuel injection so probably not). Once the engine is on release the key. Find a good station on the radio (classical/opera or jazz is best). Right pedal to go, left pedal to stop. The stick in the middle shifts gears, but there's no backup camera. It is a child of the 80s after all. Try not to exceed any posted speed limits. I still haven't found the turn signal or wipers, though.
  3. Yeah. Well. Software. 90% of the work takes 10% of the time. The rest of the time is spent on piddling things that on the forums takes seconds, but where the code hits the screen it takes longer than that to check out the file, and potentially days to track down why setting the strobes to 'FLASH' causes Clown to wet himself. If it helps, and it probably doesn't, it frustrates the developers as much as the customers. Here's something to tide you over. No idea why we don't get a 'CONV OFF NUCL ON' switch. We need one in our jet.
  4. Winter is also relative. Perth in mid-July was warm when I was there. "Winter" is itself pretty slippery, with multiple definitions. Astronomical and meteorological are two, but other cultures use different dates. For all we know Heatblur has their own methods for determining seasons, and possibly even years. Let's not forget the Georgian calendar is just one of many... A little surprised the F-4 wasn't released last Monday since I tore the simpit down for an early D check over the weekend. Going to be a few more weeks before it's back in the air. So to speak. Figured with all the map updates and other assorted niceness in the pipe better now than later.
  5. Oh, sweet! Is that DIRECT or G? Haven't printed that label and it's a 13 position switch, now my 12 position switch is enough!
  6. I didn't notice it until I flew around the thing in an AH-50, then it was just glaringly obvious. Now I can't unsee it, and even notice during overhead breaks. If HB were to crack that code base it would be item number one on my list, but it's probably trivial for the majority so no breath-holding here.
  7. Oh, I don't know. They can't model the smell, or vibration, or sounds. The swish of water, the stars on a moonless, clear night in the middle of the IO. In DCS a deck is a deck, and once the cat fires it really doesn't matter if that was 59, 64, 80, or Nellis Air Force Base back there. Given a choice between a 'bit more life' or the Phantom? Lemme hit the paraloft and get geared up... I imagine they'll get back to it, but maybe like ED they're waiting for core features. Or maybe they're waiting for bandwidth. Either way given a choice between 59 and Cell Block 70 I'll take the asphalt burner just for nostalgia. Ghost Shooters get you off the deck just as good as cartoon shooters. But then I generally fly off SC and use 59 as a satellite air base just so I don't forget how to crash on it. Besides, the forward wardroom is better!
  8. Do the radars on the forest fire still spin backwards? I don't know why that's so distracting. Probably the number of hours I've spent watching radars spin, if only in the background. Maybe this is the anti-Forest Fire...
  9. I thought seriously about sculpting my own; even did some research on chair ergos, then got lazy and bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWJ54GC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 I've poked and prodded it, but still in the box. Probably another couple weeks before I tear down the pit so I can widen it for the new seat. Current seat is hard plastic with a memory foam cushion, and it's hard on my back (which is already messed up).
  10. That's only because you think the mission of the A-10 is something it isn't. The F-35 Mafia needs money, the A-10 costs money. Money spent on the A-10 will get spent on the F-35, therefore the money continues to be spent and the F-35 replaces the A-10. Q.E.D. The people who depend on the A-10 are not the flag-level officers on permanent Pentagon duty prior to post-retirement executive vice president roles in the defense companies raking in billions in F-35 contracts, therefore the mission of the A-10 is not important. That's an over-simplified explanation, but it gets the point across. Actually there's a whole thing about CAS role assignments and huge star-wearing egos in the E-ring deciding that's not sexy enough until someone threatened to give the Army money, etc. The two key points are 'ego' and 'money'.
  11. Anyone know if there are any drawings with the dimensions of the STECS mini around? I'd also like to get throw distance on the throttle handle, and where it is relative to the base at full throw. Designing the next generation pit and still want to be able to flick the gear switch with my hand on the throttle. Had to do it the hard way with the Warthog, but then I found drawings for the TM Cougar MFDs and that made a lot of things much easier! Hoping to get the same kind of info for VKB, but in a pinch I have the tools to measure all of it...
  12. Thank you very much for your time, and have a great day! Looks like the armaments panel officially has the highest switch density with 76 switch positions, 4 encoder leads, 6 analog axis, and one LED. 87 control wires. Takeoff/Autopilot/Countermeasures is second with a paltry 84 leads.
  13. Wow. That was quick, and I appreciate it! Since I have your attention, and this is pure curiosity and not really important if you're busy, what are C, B, and A for on the weapon sel switch? The rest appear to be obvious (which means "AGM-12" probably arms the travel pod... )
  14. <raises hand> Oh! Ohh! Teacher! What are the positions on the QTY switch. Looks like 1-8ish and then some other things. Thanks! <lowers hand>
  15. This is an issue I haven't seen yet, and I have three Cougar MFDs with monitors behind them, so DDIs, MFDs, RWR (or HSI) on the F-16, radar and RWR on the F5, RWR, HSD and VDI on the F-14, the list goes on, and just to check I just went to Georgia at War, Enigma, and I think Buddy Spike with no problems at all. Are you sure it's the export that's breaking integrity?
  16. I don't build pits for specific aircraft, I build them for all aircraft (and possibly even aircraft in simulators that shall not be named). In fact, based on Zabuzard's screenshot the weapon select is 8 position, so I penciled in a 10 position switch and added 'RIPPLE' and 'SAFE' and can use that with the F5 as well. Also gives me the 13th position for delivery method. The 7 toggles used by the F5 for arm/jettison have been incorporated since v1, and also get used for F/A-18 jettison positions and will work with the F4. It's really pretty interesting how much overlap there is; Air Force and Navy have some different design philosophies, but even they overlap in some areas. But in the end you are correct. There are switches in there that may not even be needed; I don't even know what they're for. Good news is I'm waiting for 8 pin XH headers; they were supposed to ship from GB and never arrived, so now I'm waiting for replacements from China. By the time those get here and I'm actually ready to build the armament panel the F4 should be on the street, as it were. After this version (v3) making changes will be disgustingly easy. Unfortunately to get there I have to stop flying for a couple weeks...
  17. Thanks! Love the commonality between aircraft; you'd almost think they're designed to do the same things, more or less. Makes my task so much simpler!
  18. Thanks, Zabuzard! One question is the functionality of the switches you can't see in that photo behind the stick. This is not quite the same as the photo you posted, so maybe they don't exist in the version HB is producing?
  19. How about just the pages with the cockpit layout? I'm building new controls for the Multipit and would like to get hud/arm and fuel controls in particular. If they're not mapped that's a bridge I'll burn later, but it would be nice to get it all laid out. It's not stopping me (actually my supply of JST-XH 2.5 8 pin connectors in the problem right now) but that should change soon.
  20. Goodness. Okay. Never mind. Just ignore the strange kid in the corner; he might say things you don't understand. Carry on with your regularly scheduled "I want a block 23+ discussion."
  21. It does if HB brings the F-4 back and Someone(tm) makes the F-18E as requested in this thread. Bad enough Heatblur is going to make bridle catchers a thing; ED has been able to quietly ignore bridles with the 'community' A-4, but this is a licensed third party making a jet that lacks a launch bar. Makes me hope they bring in the RN version with that towering nose oleo. Pretty rude from a 'Bridles are not used any more, so removing the bridle catchers didn't affect operations' standpoint...
  22. Maybe a G. The problem with E/F is Heatblur has already promised a Naval version of the F-4, so 'Rhino' is taken. That's the problem with re-using type calls; you'd think someone would have been more creative, but this is the military.
  23. Oh, I dunno. I recall stories of Air Force Phantoms in Vietnam in between stories of the protests. It's not really a question of 'if', it's a question of whether or not I'm going to live that long... I'm pretty sure by then I'll need a step-in simpit. The 'step over' version I have now will be far too dangerous, and SWMBO will demand changes!
  24. You guys are so cruel. I was all the way through flight training, had a slot for F-14s, which was more work than I want to think about, when NAMI came down and wanted a picture of my mustache... Such a bitter pill to swallow. I didn't meet the minimum movie-star looks requirements established by NavPers, either, and ended up disqualified by both groups and out of the flight program. Thank you so much for reminding me of such a traumatic episode in my life... (of course none of that is true, other than the inability to grow a 'stache and the lack of movie-star looks. my (short) Naval career was under the waterline where such things are more tolerated)
  25. Did like the -25% discount, which would imply the early access price a fraction less than $99.99 when in fact there is a misplaced negative sign in there and it's $59.99, which in this case is literally a smoking good deal. I'm guessing the author isn't in to math. More interestingly was the thrust numbers, which got me looking at engines. The J-79 and 404 have pretty close numbers if you ignore trivial details like weight and specific fuel flow. The F-4 is roughly 10,000 pounds heavier than the F-18, which is roughly 10,000 pounds heavier than the F-16, and they all have (roughly) the same number of hamsters running at the back end. This tells me I should have spent a few more years in aeronautical engineering before I switched over because the aircraft behind door number two is the slowest of the bunch and the aircraft behind door number three isn't much, if at all, faster than the brick. There are drag effects going on here somewhere... The F-4 will definitely be a beast! Pretty hard to say no to that...besides, who doesn't want to watch a brick fly?
