  1. Thanks Gezahu. Notice that those are official manual numbers. I tested it in DCS and the mig will use and average of 200 l / 100 km ( from 1,8 to 2,2 L /km instead of the 1,65l/km from the manual), loaded whith 2 missiles, cruising @ 12000m and 520 km/h IAS, almost full mil power, no AFT. So you will get even at around 400 km (Sea level slow vs 12000 slow). At 12000m of altitude your 520 km/h IAS will be around 900+ km/h TAS. The thing is, being the Mig a Mach 2 fast mover, who wants to fly it so slowly for so long? I only fly so slowly when I RTB low on fuel. If I have extra fuel I always use all the after burner I can. In most of the missions, if TA is under a 150 km distance, I will go to TA at 80-95% power at low altitude (IAS 650 to 1050 depending how much fuel i want to use). If its over 200 Km and its safe I will climb an fly high and fast to TA. Then, if Im still alive, I would RTB low and choosing the speed that will make me arrive at the airport with 200 to 700 l of fuel left.

  3. Regarding the thread topic have a look here:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130722
  4. Thats probably because transonic flight static pitot error. Only happens around mach 1. Just don't stay too long at transonic flight, is not efficient (too much drag), go faster or slower. While having the altimeter error at transonic flight, vertical velocity works just fine and is a good reference. I don't know if it should be this way, as far as know in RL vertical speed instrument should be linked to pitot tube / static line too.
  5. I´ve never seen it, but haven't try to meet the flight parameters for icing to happened neither. Would love to see it.
  6. Congratulations Taylor!!! I think most of the 50,000 members of this forum would love to have your opportunity in RL. Good luck and keep us posted while you can!
  7. Im not aware of any lost in sensibility, its not described in the manual (DCS and real) and I haven't noticed if its there. That being said, I have asked the same question for my self since the mig was released and I try not to use them if I don't need them, just in case.
  8. If you have both IFF switches on and a contact in your radar IFF should work. But there is also a bug with radar search mode (and IFF) in MP severs with a lot of clients connected. It happens to me about one of every 4 or 5 flights I do in the 104th sever. The radar won't show you the contacts it has in its search cone, even if you see the contacts in front of you the radar will show you nothing, so you can't IFF. You can still lock targets in beam mode or blindly in search mode and engage with R3Rs. This might be related to lag and desynch and ones it start happening It happens also to most of the clients flying Mig-21. Some kills this weekend with the Mig at the 104th:
  9. Good news, thanks Cobra for keeping us updated.
  10. I choose altitude for cruising depending the distance I m going to travel: *Under 100 km I keep my altitude. If your at sea level you can burn between 300L / 100 km at 550 km/h IAS up to 1200L / 100 km at 1300 km/h IAS. So I choose my speed accordingly to how much fuel i got left and want to use. *If I have to travel a distance over 200 Km I will always climb (from 9000 m to 13000 m), if it´s save. You will use up to 800L in a climb from sea level using full AFT and about 450 L / 100 km cruising at 2100 km/h TAS at 12000 m (that´s very fast and not so much fuel). If I have to travel between 100 km and 200 km I evaluate the situation. If Im very low in fuel I always keep my altitude and calculate 330 L for every 100 km (Cruising at sea level at 550 to 650 km/h IAS) plus 300 L for landing. I dont have the numbers for cruising slowly (650 km/h) without the AFT at high altitude, might be a nice option. Tried a while a go and you couldnt even cruise without AFT over 7000m, I think this is solved now buy angle of attack and drag still increases with altitude at same IAS.
  11. I found a way to replay the track without desync: turn off DCS 3d graphics while replaying. Open graphics.cfg in config folder and change the line "render3D = true;" with "render3D = false;". Now open DCS and replay the 104th MP track. You will get an excellent TacView file. While replaying you will only see F10 map view and have extremely high and constant FPS. If you want to be extra sure and you have the time you can run the track at 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 of the speed. Then change render3D back to true. Jorge / Tango -117-
  12. From real MIG-21 BIS English manual:
  13. Very interesting theoretical discussion here about Alfa and wing lift. But the bug about the angle of attack got diluted with it. Real Mig-21 wont fly level with negative angle of attack and this error is still present in DCS-Mig-21 Bis current version.
  14. Congratulation (and thanks) LD for your 2014 achivements and the best for 2015!!
  15. Thanks for the replies. This is a bugs and problems thread and the point of the thread is just to acknowledge there is an error in longitudinal acceleration. Its another variable in the EFM to be improved by LN. I mentioned drag and thrust to make it clearer. There shouldn't be any doubts about the acceleration curve error, its common sense and if it was needed it can be proven with basic aerodynamics concepts and/or acceleration charts.
  16. Acceleration up to achieving max speed (IAS and TAS) is to high and abruptly stops when reaching it. Speed increases very rapidly and stops doing it at 1300km/h IAS (clean plane). With actual flight model its feels like max speed at level flight its like a scripted limit (it shouldn't be so obvious). It feels like reaching the 250 km/h programed safety speed limit in a S4 Audi capable of 280 km/h, if you know what I mean. Speed should increase very gradually when approaching max speed. With acceleration decreasing while drag is increasing logarithmically (edit: square, thanks John) with speed and air resistance, up to the point where drag = thrust. EDIT: The "scripted" limit for max speed was removed, now we have the problem that the migs always overspeed and its not possible to mantain a constat speed at level flight with AFT on.
  17. Did again a DCS open beta update from command line and dindt get any log. The updater was only working and generating logs if used for repair, install modules or convert to a previus version. To save time I reinstalled the open beta and is working now. I uninstalled it, renamed user dcs open beta folder (the one that keeps configurations, etc), deleted the hidden DCS folder in user/appdata/local, cleaned windows registry and reinstalled the beta. Updater worked fine. For the main version updater was not updating because there is not update yet, but it wasn't generating any logs so I reinstalled too to be safe. So thats all for now (I hope), thanks.
  18. Thanks, I have followed that post before posting here. The only thing I didn't do is try to revert DCS to a specific version and then try to update to a specific version. Will let you know if it works. Thanks.
  19. Thanks Flagrum. I'm running the open beta updater, checked the shortcut properties and also run it directly from DCS World open beta bin folder. Is there any way to reset the updater? Or to force it to update? It does work for repairing the open beta install (and creates a log). It also runs ok for the first time if I rename the updater files created in the main open beta folder (log files and the others) but only "updates" to 1.2.12. But after this ill will just crush when I run it and it seems no more log files are created. When I come back from my office I'll download the stand alone updater again and run it from open beta install folder. If it doesnt work I'll reinstall the beta and see what happens. I will appreciate if some one can tell me how to reset the updater or how to force it to update. Jorge.
  20. Just tried again the updater. I´m attaching the latest log but it doesnt look like the updater is creating or modifying the log file. autoupdate_log.zip
  21. Thanks. My current installed version for main installation and open beta is: 1.2.12.35194. If the main installation doesn't have and update yet, then that is my mistake and why it didn't updated (I cant believe I ve done a full reinstall when it was not necessary...). But the open beta is not updating and it should. Im attaching the logs. I tried manually running the update and this steps (all for the open beta): Disabled antivirus. Run the updater from CMD and from bin folder in DCS. Repaired the installation. Deleted updater files created in DCS main folder autoupdate_log beta.txt
  22. Last night I cancelled de autoupdate (from 1.2.12 to 1.2.14) before a squadron flight, since then the updater won't update, it just pop up an instant and disappears. Tried to update the openbeta install and I get the same error. What I tried: Disabled antivirus. Run the updater from CMD and from bin folder in DCS. Repaired the installation. Deleted updater files created in DCS main folder and in Appdata DCS hidden folder. Downloaded de stand alone updater, move it to and run it from bin folder. Uninstalled DCS World (main installation, not the open beta), keeping user/savedgames/DCS config folder. Reinstalled from current 1.2.12 torrent. In this case the updater run the first time but updated to the same version I had before: 1.2.12. Since then it won't run, just show a dialog for an instant and disappear. The updater did run to install all the modules. One of our squadron mates, who also canceled the autoupdater is having the same problem. Running out of options here. If you need a log to help me please point out which one. Thanks.
  23. Symetrical or not a 2 degrees of negative AoA for level flight at this speed looks and probably is wrong. This is, most likely, an EFM error, maybe a consecuence of trying to correct the high positive AoA needed for level flight at high altitude (over 10000 m). With same weight, loadout and IAS: AoA needed for a level flight should be independent of altitude. In DCS Mig21 AoA for level flight at SAME IAS increases with altitude. I cant imagine what a nightmare must have been (and fun, of course) to create the EFM for the mig, to try to correct some values without breaking others, etc. Dolphin you have a lot of patient, good work.
