  1. i don't know... maybe this video can help explain my question. you see that i climb almost vertically, with very low airspeed... then i drop the collective to zero and start an aggressive descent... i use no pedals until i'm very close to the ground. you can notice that i increase collective two times to avoid the beeping from the warning system, then i fully lower it again to keep dropping altitude... even at those times when i increase the collective, i'm not required to apply any pedal to keep heading. the only time when pedal is required is when i'm almost on the ground... you can see that the helo suddenly snaps to the left and i'm required to apply right pedal... i find it even stranger because of the snap... it's not a smooth transition on the yaw of the frame... it's like a condition is met (altitude?) and it starts rotating all of a sudden... it's worth noting that the sudden rotation to the left is not related to me pulling on the collective for the third time... it happens well after that, when i'm already at 50% collective. so, i have some questions: 1) why didn't it need left pedal when i dropped the collective at high altitude? 2) why did it need right pedal to go up, but not in those two situations going down where i applied collective? 3) why did it require right pedal only when i was close to the ground?
  2. yep, that's what i'm planning for next week. :D thanks for the input!
  3. yeah, i still feel that picking up the minigun version to a hover is a breeze and much more believable when leaving the ground. the M version is a b*tch. i still don't get why we need to keep adjusting the collective when in ground effect and very low to the ground... it still goes up and down without command.
  4. that explains a lot... so probably all because of the fenestron. ;) dude, what is this game mode everyone keeps talking about? :megalol:
  5. well... suppose you're fast approaching a landing zone and you start lowering collective very aggressively... do you need to put left pedal? because i don't... my helo keeps heading until i'm close to the ground and pull some collective to land... at that point, i need right pedal, but not when descending.
  6. hey everyone! when you lower the collective, you should be putting some left pedal, no? from the little experience i have in the gazelle, i noticed that you don't need to apply the pedals when doing collective changes, unless you're close to the ground, and even then, it only applies to giving it more collective (not when lowering it), in which case you're required to apply some right pedal to keep heading. i was wondering if this is related to this helicopter featuring a fenestron instead of normal tail rotor.
  7. i wonder why the torque jumps up when you engage auto hover. shoudln't that make the helo climb instantly?
  8. Still too dark. Can't see the knobs for instruments on the gazelle, for example.

    can we turn DS off?
  10. i understand all of that. it just feels that the pickup part is too abrupt to me, unlike other helos i've tried in a few sims. another thing i find a bit weird is that this behavior seems to be with the M model... the minigun gazelle is a lot more convincing when leaving the ground. i've no problem coming to a hover (although it's not as smooth as i would like)... it's just that leaving the ground does not happen in a nice flow in the M model.
  11. it feels a bit strange when you're on the ground and you keep adding collective very, very slowly. the helo doesn't leave the ground smoothly... it suddenly jumps up a few feet, even though you just added another milimeter of collective input... there's no transition... it feels like you're glued to the ground, sliding a bit forward or backward at most... then all of a sudden you're up in the air. doesn't that feel weird for you guys?
  12. hi, this looks so clean, congrats!! can i still use this without issues in 2.5?
  13. well... i think that's exactly the thing here. if the hover is stable, altitude doesn't vary. thank you guys!
  14. it's a hotas warthog, no spiking or anything. i'll try to make a video tomorrow to show what it's happening (going up and down without moving the collective). yeah, i did that once i got back to flying DCS, but now i'm quite good at controlling a hover... the thing is not actually controlling the stick... the helo is changing altitude without me comanding with the collective. i can't just keep it a few feet above the ground for more than a few seconds without it going up or down.
  15. well... the thing is that my issue persists. i just can't hold a steady altitude without pulling and pushing the collective every now and then. unlike that video you posted, where he keeps the collective at 50% all the time and the helo does not go up and down like mine does. sometimes, i can hold a few seconds above the ground then the helo just goes and lands... or it starts climbing out of nowhere without me commanding anything with the collective or flying away. i think i should be hovering at a constant altitude when not messing with the collective, no?
  16. i'm on 2.5.1 open beta. i understand it being twitchy and having much less "room" for ground effect than the huey, but still i'm not able to hold a steady altitude like this guy does, for example.
  17. hey guys! i have a few hours in the huey and i don't have any problems taking off, landing, hovering at high altitude or close the ground... i completely understand what's happening in that helo when coming into, out and during ground effect. but in this one, keeping the collective at a certain position is not a guarantee that the helo will keep the altitude i want... even very small variations in collective produce exagerated results. i get closer to the ground and have to give more collective... then it climbs too much... then i lower the collective just a tad and it plumets to the ground again. it feels like ground effect is "varying" when i'm trying to hold a hover a few feet above the ground. any tips on what i might be doing wrong?
  18. i like learning and flying. combat not so much.
  19. hey! there's a very handy tool for that! ;) http://www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com/ edit: well, now i'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.
  20. yeah, i guess that is the issue here. but maybe they could make the bottom part of the axis range (from bottom to idle stop) part of the throttle axis, no? that way, we could simply press that button and move the throttle all the way down.
