IMHO , to appreciate individual type , you have to use it per doctrine, for which it was designed. Russian combat rotors , with possible exception of MI-28N, are strafe platforms, with ATGM as secondary weapon. KA-50 and Hind F , in DCS, should be used to deliver gun and rocket salvos at high speed. SMO is proof of that doctrine. As was Soviet Afganistan war, and Azeri usage of advanced Hinds in Its conflict with Armenia. Think IL-2 at Kursk 1943. So avoid 'Western' tactics of dashing from treeline to treeline at 30-50ft AGL, hover, pop up, aquire, fire, run. Fly fast to contact at low AGL , popup at speed, visually aquire , fire rockets and guns, then break and run for terrain mask. Reattack , when needed, from different azimuth, then run away to rearm and refuel. That's Russian and earlier Soviet doctrine. With Apache , and Gazzele , fly to contact at very low AGL . Use terrain and urban features to mask. Come to slow hover, pop up have c/p aquire and fire. Then mask immediately and fly to another firing point, or leave the fight if dry. Gazelle is light attack and observation scout like KIOWA. Gazelle is my favorite rotary in DCS , and others are great. It is flown with pressure on cyclic ,vs deflection of cyclic in other rotary modules in DCS. It is small thus it can hide in smaller confined areas. AH-64D is insufficiently developed to be fairly compared to earlier DCS rotors.

Nanchang Q-5 is essentially a Mig-19
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in MiG-19 Farmer B
Seems like, according to Wiki, internal bay was used similar to USAF F-105, F-111, and USN A-5 , for internal extended range fuel tank. DCS:Q-5 would complement Chinese Assets Pack. Especially H-6J munitions truck. -
If Razbam wishes for a quick development DCS level module, leveraging current offering. THe Chinese PLAAF Q-5 may be a candidate. Essentially a Mig-19 with pointy nose housing radar, and side intakes.

Has any navy ever experimented with ramps for arrest, not just launch? Having wires , or more wires amidships, and using ramp to slow down the aircraft. I was watching Indian Navy testing F/A-18E/F on their ramp equiped carriers. A ramp at the crotch of landing area, would slow the aircraft down (that has caught a wire), or allow margin of safety during bolters. But since no navy has implemented this, I suspect there is an issue I have not considered.
-
So does that mean if we stack two ramps against each other, forming an arching bridge. We can use that to shorten recovery runway distance? Just an experiment. Ramps can be used on carriers to assist in launch, but nobody has tried to use ramps to aid in recovery. I have a track, but uts larger then 5mb so I can't post it.

Are DCS and War Thunder related?
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS Core Wish List
There is no sigh deep enough! I was serious. The two look very similar. If both shared core game engine, then assets from one could be imported into other. Base assets for AI or just static. Just like there are official and unofficial tricks of game designers, I don't work in games, to poach 3D assets from one game to another, provided both were developed using same engine. As it appears that DCS and War Thunder do not share core engine, this is not in the cards. -
Are DCS and War Thunder related?

OK so there is no intersection of development between War Thunder and DCS game engine. That was my question. -
Are DCS and War Thunder related?
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS Core Wish List
huh? Its the details and 'the look feel'. There is a marked difference in look feel of DCS and MSFS2020. The look feel of DCS and War Thunder is high. To my eye at least. -
Is there a development relationship between DCS and War Thunder. Graphics engine and asset wise, both remarkable similar to each other. If so, bringing in War Thunder assets as AI or static, into DCS would be on my feature request.

I never thought of CPU bottleneck as constpitation. Thank you for expanding my visual perception.

That depends on map. Overall performance of AH-64D in 2.8 has gone down in some theaters, minor in some theaters, more in others. Biggest performance hit for AH-64D, in my situation, is with South Atlantic. My rig really struggles with Apache over Falklands.

Probably there isn't. I've been trying to use Sidearm against low threat air-air adversaries. Mig-21 (guns only) and Mainstay AWACS. Not quite there yet. 1/2 time I don't get a lock, after uncage, if I do, missile either misses or explodes to far from radar source. I am figuring that perhaps I am not placing airborne threat in FOV of Sidearm FOV. Works fine on land and ship radars, if I survive air defense. Only really works within 5-10 nm against SA-8, SA-6. In my hands anyway. Tonguska always launches before I can lock and launch my Sidearm. I was figuring, that at least with radar equipped air-air threats with rear aspect missiles (Mig-21, Mig-19), at the merge, when AI gets a radar lock on my AV-8B at 10nm or less, I can fire Sidearm. Either it will kill him or he will break off. Can't say for certain, I figure theres gotta be a real world submode in advanced air-air missiles to home on emitter. I can post a track, but I find that when I do, others can't play it, or the recording is nothing like the mission I flew.

Airborne troops jump. With deployed canopies.. Just standard NATO 12 to 24 man sticks via static line . Perhaps as part of Combined Arms module. From C-130, C-17, A400, and WWII asset C-47. LAPES cargo deliveries with of compatible aircraft. C-130, C-17, A400, and Il-78(maybe). Transport mission with LAPES delivery as Advanced Actions menu item. Land and pickup passengers and cargo as waypoint action item for Transport mission. Parachute cargo drop as waypoint action for Transport mission.

Well its Nov.1 in LA, and the 'Skeleton Crew' are stil there. I get it, I get it, somehow POC:COFBP has been worked into carrier air wing crew. Very funny! NO BONES ABOUT IT. Are bone colors indicative of shirt colors? Where is 'Argo' and its crew of Jason and his Argonauts? I want to remind ED that National Nude Day is celebrated all around the world on July 14. So next July 14, I expect something special.

I generally dislike pit mirrors in DCS. I get robbed of 10-20 FPS depending on module, and they look weird, as their rez does not appear to be same as rest of DCS. Except in F-5E! in F-5E, mirrors look natural, and I don't loose FPS. Maybe 1-5 FPS, but not noticeable. So whats the secret of F-5E mirrors? They are so good in F-5E module, but not so much in others.

Yes. I want to reiterate. I am a big fan of DCS. I love many aspects of it. ED has done a fantastic job. BUT NOT IN VR! On a bleeding edge ultra high end gaming PC with Varjo (my favorite) VR , DCS cannot claw its way higher then 60 FPS, and often delivers 45-50 something FPS. What hope is there for plain high end or everyday Joe 6-pack gaming PC with affordable VR. NONE! I'd rather have three curved 1440 panels with TrackIR. Or those insane ultra hyper wide gaming screens , with TrackIR. I visited Micro Center , and they just got bendable curved panels. Pricy , but make much more sense then VR. Center panel would have moderate curvature and two side panels with more pronounced curve. Whatever happened to stereo glasses? With 3080Ti or 4090 and sensible DCS settings, 144 to 180 FPS play can be delivered.
-
Please, if possible, post your rig specs, VR set native specs, DCS options page , and average FPS with SU-25T and KA-50 BS2. If your VR FPS is not in tripple digits , and substantially less then VR refresh rate X2, then DCS VR performance on your rig is poor. VR is not same as panels. There should not be FPS rate dance. It must be constant. 45 FPS is not usable, 60 FPS is poor performance 90 FPS low but marginably acceptable 120 FPS acceptable for VR set with 60 refresh rate. 144 FPS is good performance for VR sets with 75 refresh rate 180 FPS excellent performance with high end VR set Once again there should not be average FPS in VR in given mission. FPS needs to be constant from start of mission to end.

Why is DCS in VR with 12th gen CPU, DDR5, and 4090 so applalingly slow? Getting 40-60 FPS with VR on such system is not just a bug. It is an appalling fail! A fail! Not a WIP, not it will get better. It is a fail. It is completely unacceptable low level of performance. Sliding various options up and down, turning OFF anti-aliasing, does not improve performance by more then 5-7 FPS. With a VR set, that system cost exceeds $6500. DCS can only pump out measly 60FPS on a good day with empty sky. Where is the bottleneck? Is it the VR set? I don't understand how this level of performance be viewed as acceptable, or be allowed to go to market. Here is what should be acceptable for VR and its simple. VR set refresh rate X 2. That is FPS that DCS needs to deliver for VR to be acceptable. If the DCS is unable to deliver this on a system, then DCS cannot be used for VR on that rig, with those DCS settings. DCS with 3195 pixel VR with 75hz refresh rate has to deliver constant unvarying min of 144FPS without drops, tears, or stutters. If DCS cannot do it, then it should not be used with VR on that system.

Modules needed. AH-64D, Mariannas map, but problem appears to be universal for me. I am encountering what I thought was , at first , turbulence due to weather causing shaking of aircraft. I experience it in A-10C 2.0, MIrage2KC, and in AH-64D it is really pronounced. However I experience it in all modules I have. Including default SU-25T. Happens in all maps for AV8B, Mirage2KC, AH64D, A-10CII,and SU-25T. I expect to see it in all modules across all maps. I am not certain what it is. But I do not beleive it is weather turbulence or simulated vibration of airframe. I suspect, I am speculating, that this may be a positional noise error, and/or flight model 'hunting' in yaw and pitch axis. Additionally, the head pilot view gets canted over time. About every 20-30 seconds, view has to be recentered. Its subtle enough, that it tricks me into beleiving I am banking the aircraft. But looking at ADI, not so. Recentering view fixes, and has to be recentered in about 30 seconds. AH64D_Mar_DCS28beta_vibration_shake_error_102922.trk

reported Ka-50 - Cockpit is neither in Russian nor in English
DmitriKozlowsky replied to NightMan's topic in General Bugs
Its a bilungual cockpit. In Brighton Beach, Brooklyn NYC, where there is a large Russian and former USSR population, that random combination of RUssian and English is called Junglish. With a "J". -
Startup procedure has changed or broke.
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Bug Reports
I am investigating. THere are new options in SPecial that I have not seen before. Perhaps the cutoff detente option , set at 15%, is a contributing factor. But right now. To cold start. I have to hold down start while advancing throttle. If I do not hold down STARTwhile advancing to IDLE, the cockpit throttle does not advance. What is Elastic Limit Axis Position? Elastic Limit Bind? -
Startup procedure has changed or broke.
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Bug Reports
My binds have not changed. But behavior of Mirage module has. So far only in cold sart respect. -
Startup procedure has changed or broke.
DmitriKozlowsky replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Bug Reports
OK. Something has changed, and I beleive that the procedure has changed. Before : Hold down start for 4 seconds or until power is at 11%. Release start and advance throttle to IDLE. NOW: Continue holding down the start , after power reaches 11%, and advance throttle to idle , while holding down start. With X56 this requires some finger gymnastics.
