No, you will hear LESS noise in fact in cockpit. In F3 flyby view you will hear the boom.

Am I understanding correctly that mods have been restored to the save game folder? I tried it with my F-86.lua and MiG-15bis.lua in my Beta install and I think it worked. I thought I had less barrel heat in my guns by what I saw from the cockpit. (and put in the file) Also, has airbase behavior been improved as a result of supercarrier updates? It seems my #2 wingman did an immediate rejoin call when my plane touched down in echelon formation. He was too far off to land and I haven't done this much but in most of my flying the past few weeks like this, #2 says nothing. He also called an RTB which I usually have to give him on my own. Curious, because the thread above is not entirely clear after 10 pages. Also got another dive kill by roping the MiG transonic behind me. Popped my speed brake at about 380 kts and pulled out. Mig kept going. Boom.

Got a supersonic dive kill yesterday. Long struggle at high skill level, but finally lead him into a dive on my tail, popped his speed brake too late. Mad pull out at the end. I made it, he didn't. But my stick work sucks. Worn out cougar doesn't help. And man after wasting all that time flying slow and stupid it was nice to see some reality.

OK now this is a pleasant surprise! After trying to save the updated MiG-15bis.lua from the recent update, I gave up and repaired the install with the DCS app. I was able to save the F-86.lua but still noticed some odd shotgun effect in the 50s. Who knows, I may have fouled up the update with all my mod files in the CoreMods folders. But I am happy to say that the new AI for the MiG's and the new muzzle velocities for the Sabres made for some pretty decent dogfighting 2 Sabres v 3 MiGs. I could have sworn I got tagged once but it must have been the report of my 50s as I switched to outside view. So thanks for the updates guys. I am a little sad that it seems we can't mod for the time being but if this helps make improvements and finally squash the sound loss bug then I can't complain too much. I'll make a new sig pic to celebrate. Thanks also to 000ric000 for the epic Sabre skins! Clean out your folders I think the manifest file works like a shipping or passenger manifest ;)

What in the world? I just saw this too. Really this seems kinda odd after all these years. And it's beta after all. I will run the regular install and see if that helps. I notice "manifest" files in both the F-86 and MiG-15 folders now. Good grief, this is beta too.

Thanks NineLine. For laughs, here's part of the problem. From The MiG-15bis SFM first line by Mach numbers where v=0 is Mach=0. table_data = {-- M Cx0* Cya* B2 B4 Omxmax Aldop* Cymax* { 0.0, 0.018, 0.067, 0.074, 0.01 , 0.372, 17.3, 1.1}, Cymax is the max lift coefficient. When v=0 Lift=0 so it is impossible for the lift coefficient ever to be anymore than zero when v=0. This can be said for all the values in this first row (cx and cy)where v=0. That is where I think the Sputnik like handling comes from at low speed in the vertical or around acceleration from slow and so on. Cymax should = 0 when Mach = 0. At least that's what I've figured out. If I goofed please let me know. ;)

Fantastic!

Excellent Big Newy! Keep at it! Cheers.

Yeah the floaty MiG-15 SFM with lift ce greater than 1 at mach v=0 is a bit cheaty. If you want, go into your mig lua, edit the gforce limit down to between 4 and 6 g to reproduce a more realistic non g suit performance of the pilot. Practice with this. Mig fanboys will scream and cry and say that all Mig pilots fly like Honchos with Arnold like g technique after "getting to the choppa" every day, but that is pure BS. A historical, definitive advantage that resulted in UN air superiority and the reality of 2 Koreas to this day is the Sabres superior roll rate, muzzle velocity of the 50s, radar gun site, and yes g suit. Oh and an all flying tail. Take them transonic and watch what should happen. Fat wings climb real nice but stink transonic. Also, don't pull too much lead when following through the vertical. Give them space, place them above your canopy rail and stay aware of the horizon line. Hammerhead turn/roll out of the loop and get your nose down before his, and then close more in the dive. Use speed brakes and be ready for him to try and make you overshoot. Ai is not very smart but this will help you fight them in the vertical and save your energy in the weaker climb n thrust Sabre.

Good job! And love the sig line, hillarious! :D

Wow great points guys. Thanks! So how does the rpm lever work? I have heard of "constant speed" props but what is going on if it's not "variable pitch." Sounds like some homework but fine with me. ;) Oh, I need to check that default setting. Also, CH control manager will run if you turn the Win10 power settings off. But it sounds like I need to learn the proper brake lever.
-
By the way, what's a good throttle and pitch setting for taxiing? I skipped the training ;)
-
Nice! I managed to taxi back after a complete rubbish landing scraping wingtips and prop, and slamming the tail wheel. I did notice that DCS does allow for and Increase and Decrease key so I tried again with CH Control Manager. After deleting the pedals by mistake, I was able to get it recognized again with a reboot. the manager was working so I made a quick 3 repeat for the increase and decrease keys but it may not have been enough. I think DCS does see the repeat on hold, which is why stabbing works and stomping bends the prop. I'll up the repeat a bit and see if I can get it to work on the toe brakes. I suppose this is not correct but I can go back to the stick lever (B4?) like a nose wheel steering key.
-
Oh interesting. So I should be able to script the w key to both axes and use with deflexion. Thanks! I tried to fire up CH Control Manager but it crashes and I don't think is Win10 compatible. Maybe a stick button is the best, especially to avoid accidental toe movement? Like nose wheel steering on the Sabre? I'm curious, did the later Spit have only one brake lever and nothing on the pedal toes? I can understand parking brake but really? Maybe it's a legacy of the old air frame. You know, fixed wooden prop and all ;)
-
Just got the Spit this weekend. Wanted it for a while. Am I missing something? I see only one axis for wheel brakes (analog) in the control options. How do I get differential braking with both my toe brakes on the CH rudder pedals?

Great docs! Thanks iFox. I'm a librarian and love that digital archive stuff :D

Someone suggested earlier that it might be related to the F10 key and displaying map view. I posted some speculation about this earlier. I wonder if it is really a surround sound or hardware related fault where the sound origin gets fouled up when changing view and then gets lost because the system is overloaded? Maybe it has something to do with the F-86 model, or the relationship of the model, cockpit, and sound generation coordinates in 3D? Maybe there is a memory leak or "out of bounds" error in the sound coordinates when changing view back and forth?

Thanks Art-J. I didn't see any changes in the heat equations in the F-86.lua for the Beta. Do I need to look at the official install? I have done so much editing in Beta, that's the one I normally use.

I think there was a problem with the store and the last update, at least to the Beta. I got an apparent free DL of the F/A-18 yesterday and then it came up as a removal note box on relaunching next time to the game. Never saw it, never tried to use it, never paid for it. Thought it might be a gift but figured it was a glitch after the message. Free trial, just saw it on the store site. Not sure about the other stuff.

So cooling is in the "online beta" update? Forgive my ignorance of jargon at this stage. Thanks NineLIne and everyone else for all you've done. A point of logic about how rounds were loaded...if the grain count or muzzle velocity of rounds differed too much, you would see it in the dispersion pattern and best case accuracy while shooting. I think there is plenty of gun camera footage to show that did not really happen. And remember this is evidence used to confirm kills. Thanks again.

In the meantime edit your own shell.lua. You will see the laughable disconnect between M2 ball and M2 APIT. Go ahead and jack them up to 900 m/s and see the laser sniper awesomeness of a sincere effort to make a difference. That's too high honestly but that's all it takes. You can also dial down the barrel warp because that is crazy too. Jetting around at 500 kts and 30,000 feet is plently of cooling for your close packed 50s just like in the P-38 and A-26.

I have seen this in an early morning intercept mission I made. From that video above, it appears to be a layering issue with the light reflections. That highlight box appears on the top layer, even inside the ejection seat shadow. It's quite bright too and a bit of a shock.
