I'm sort of glad they didn't include carrier ops in this map. We traded in having a blank sea for carrier ops for high fidelity detailed scenery. I'd like to thank all the guys that said this map just isn't for me... after seeing some of the screen shot you are correct. Enjoy

Weather mod v17 for DCS
Dirty Mittens replied to bandit648's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I really wish ED would use your work in the default game. The default options are meh at best. Your work is the icing on the cake. Thank you for your hard work bandit648- 312 replies

Well if early access is taking years.... just saying not complaining

Would you show up to work if your boss stopped paying you?

Naval aviators can't participate in the virtual war on terrorism(Afghanistan), will this map be able to recreate realistic US Navy operations with the DCS super carrier and DCS F18C?
-
Since the map can already be purchased in "segments ", why not offer a bare bones "out of bounds" addition called "South of Afghanistan " so us navy fan boys can get in on this map? We don't need any buildings, just baren water and land on the way TO Afghanistan. Just like how the out of bounds is there in NTTR. As far as impacting performance are we talking about an extra minute or two loading empty land and water or crash to desktop failure? As far as the flight length... I mean yeah of course it's not for everyone... but don't shut out your core players(F18/F14/super carrier)because you wouldn't want to fly that long.

cannot reproduce and missing track file F-18 Radar Issues?
Dirty Mittens replied to HoBGoBLiNzx3's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
You and me both. When I get back home I will try and provide a track file or replay, maybe someone can show me what I'm doing wrong if anything. I play on the Hoggit training server and fail to lock up the C101s that are for target practice and usually end up flying right past them or finally do lock them around 5 miles away. I've been using that "Maverick" youtube video as a guide. I then created my own mission using 2 F4s as target practice at 50 miles and 100 miles out over the open sea. The first F4 I can eventually lock up at about 15-20 miles out. I'm still learning the radar so I took it as I still need more work. The second F4 I could not find on radar. I cheated and used the F10 map and he was pretty much right off my nose. 40 miles. 30 20 still cant see him... I got frustrated and turned my radar to STBY then back to OPR. 2 seconds later the brick shows up, and lock him up almost instantly. -
I've been away from the hornet for a few months letting it mature a little and noticed something different recently. While auto bombing MK82s my bombs release earlier than expected. Before I used to be able to designate the target and get the countdown to release on the hud. At about 3 seconds to release I would hold weapons release button down and when the timer got to 0 it would release.... automatically. When I do that now MK82s drop 3 seconds early and miss of course. What has changed?

Thanks for the post, I've been tinkering with 3rd party apps for dcs and thought for sure I screwed something up.

I've been using my thrustmaster warthog HOTAS for so long I naturally assumed that real dual engine aircraft have some mechanism that keeps both throttles together just like the warthog. I upgraded recently and my new throttle doesn't have a "bar" to move both throttles together. Which is correct for our F18?

VMFA 312 "Black Knights" MCAS Miramar - skin
Dirty Mittens replied to VooDoo8-9's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Maybe not 100% this situation, but it kind of amazes me that more people don't take advantage of the wonderful liveries in the file library. Even when playing online on servers that allow skins many people just use the default stuff. -
Stop Killing Pilots who Land in the Water!
Dirty Mittens replied to mytai01's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That's actually a pretty good idea. -
Agreed 100% While it's great to see ED still cares about this module, it was a let down that a doorgunner still can't be the second person. Looking forward to buying this module when it matures a little bit more.

Thank you Bananimal for delivering these skins where as ED couldn't. I hope to see people using them online.

[MISSING TRACK FILE] Maverick then GBU-12 select?
Dirty Mittens replied to ST0RM's topic in Bugs and Problems
To add to that, I've had the same thing happen a couple of times. What also seems to trigger it is, when loading bombs you don't wait for the arming complete message and you reopen the arming menu and make changes again. Go fly your mission and when it comes time to drop ordinance you get stuck trying to select it on the stores page. -
That's not a bad idea. My hype for the 14 has died down, but now that everything is back to normal pricing, it might be the best time to purchase it. I was also looking at the CE II, the price is perfect. But it looks like an absolute handful to fly? I'm not sure how a aviation noob would handle it?
-
Oh wow missed it. No biggie, same question still applies.

Ok, down to the wire with the DCS sale. What multi-crew aircraft would you recommend for a "jump in and fly" module? I have no problem with startup procedures, but for guest purposes I'd like to keep it simple and able to get the aircraft started and ready to taxi within 15 steps that can be followed on a cheat sheet. I'm looking for something that is relatively bug free, it doesn't have to have a gun though it would be nice if it did I guess I'm looking for something to potentially entertain non-DCS/ non aviation guest with that demonstrates simple aviation but also something that I can get use out of since I will be buying two copies.

Modified Air Force Playseat!
Dirty Mittens replied to mytai01's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very clean. I recently bought the playseat and was less than thrilled to find out after assembly I would have to modify it to get the joystick work. I was kind of in a rush because I wanted to have a chance to fly with my son while he was out for Christmas break. I cheaped out and went with wood and pvc to get it to work, Overall I like it mainly because of the small footprint, I'm considering buying another playseat to replace my main rig as that thing is huge. And yes as far as the cutout in the seat that's already there. That is where the "pole" for your wheel mount slides into. -
I downloaded and installed SRS last night after weeks of contemplating if I would really need it. Install was pretty simple, setting it up and finding others to talk to was just a little bit harder. Someone actually walked me through it using the in-game text chat. I would recommend it for multiplayer comms in dcs. As someone else suggested earlier it would be great if we could have a way of connecting to a server to test out actually transmitting and receiving to troubleshoot issues with equipment, servers or just shy players.

I don't know, I saw a Navy C flying a couple months ago.
-
I swear watching that video took me back to around the age of 12 at NAS Norfolk and NAS Oceana.
-
Having pretty much the same issue except I can't get mine to move down.

I actually support the idea of an easy refuel option 100% I'm just like most of you guys, "I don't need no stinking easy option on anything with DCS. I want hardcore everything." But at the same time, not everyone is going to put in/have the time to "study" all aspects of the simulator. Example, when my son comes over we both REALLY get a kick out of flying in formation with each other and doing missions etc. He is only 10 years old but his love of aviation reminds me of someone else I knew at that age. He will learn how to refuel the "real" way one day but as of right now he is not quite there. I don't think air refueling should be so simple a 10 year old can do it with little to no practice, but at least an option would be nice to aid him during the process.

As a two time purchaser of the map, I say +2.
