The Toad (Su-25T) appreciation thread
Wichid replied to Nate--IRL--'s topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I don't know much about the Frogfoot. How does the SU-25T compare to the A-10C in terms of capability? Is there something significant it brings that is new like SEAD? -
The level of fidelity makes this a steal at $40. I don't buy the modules for the storyline or single player campaign...
-
Are you confusing the multi core (modular) system DCS is moving to?
-
So the beta is core based? ie. DCS world and DCS airframes installed separately?
-
Oh no! Sage Pay returned an INVALID status. The data sent was Invalid because "3138 : The BillingState format is invalid." EDIT: Phew fixed it...
-
A common mistake is not having EAC enabled. Check if the EAC warning light is illuminated.
-
Sounds like an interesting setup! I thought the master warning sounds were not through the headset, what if you're in a jumbo jet and the pilot has taken his headset off for a moment? I've only ever setup the headset for teamspeak and the game through speakers. I'd be interested if you really can do this. I thought windows only supported using one sound device or another... I've also tried to output sound to both my USB headset and speakers at the same time but couldn't figure it out.

If 3D Vision were 100% working my head would explode with joy.
-
I have 3D vision but have not tried it with DCS. Is it actually supported? Any known issues?

I'm really looking forward to using this system and the constant speed prop. It must output a huge amount of torque. I notice there is no landing gear safety feature in the D. So if you pull the landing gear up whilst on the ground your wheels will retract when you start taxiing. Also if you lower the gear and then change your mind you have to wait for them to lock into place before pushing the lever back, otherwise you'll damage the gear or the doors.

I'm not sure if this will help people but I put a page together to help people make good gun runs: http://mildlyalert.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/gun-runs-in-dcs-a-10c-brrrrrrrrrrrrrr/ Using the edited snap view you can quickly focus your screen on the HUD like a pilot tunnelling in... I find gun runs much much easier using this.

Sadly doing low visibilty landings is about all I'm doing in DCS right now. I don't have much time to play and it's a quick and challenging thing to do. I always land with my speed brakes out as I have to use them to slow down on the roll out. Don't use the wheel brakes as apparently they are only used at taxi speeds. I do touch them slightly if I need to straighten up though.

Can't control Maverick slew? plus comment to devs.
Wichid replied to sturm21's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I find putting the target directly in front of me makes the maverick nice and easy to control. So when I'm running in I line it all up and even dive a little. -
How could we use a nuke? Has anyone thought of actually building a nuke capable or heading out into space? I don't think you can just tell an ICBM to go off to an asteroid. They want street addresses. All the current ones just circle the earth to attack other countries. I think I heard about a russian initiative a while ago. No one can build a saturn 5 rocket either as 100,000's of parts aren't manufactured anymore.

I overclock so speedstep is important for heat & otherwise my power bill would suffer.
-
I'd be keen for an assist just to make it easier to include AAR in multiplayer missions.

Update: I received my working Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle back this week. It appears to be 100% fixed. Unfortunately customs held it for 2 weeks in France trying to charge tax to TM thinking it was a new unit that needed duty paid. It cost me over $100 to send it back to them in France. I've recieved an email this morning saying: "Also, we would like to inform you that you will receive shortly the documentation for the return shipping fees that you will have to pay." Ugh.

Hopefully GA is working hard on this teaser
Wichid replied to TheMoose's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Does he have access to a build of the software? -
After watching that video I realise that this aircraft might not be all point and shoot like I've played before...
-
I would just wait for Arma 3 if you want a ground/air war simulator. There should be some great mods to make this suit everyones taste (ie. current day technology). Does DCS even have a published, well documented, Software Development Kit yet to use for integration?

The grammar police are on their way.

If it adds value to the platform don't fight it. If it doesn't, don't buy it.

On the radio some unit will say 'engaging x' at the same time a missile launch occurs from a direction you know friendlies are in. That's a good indication that it's nothing to worry about. Or online a friendly will say 'rifle' so people don't freak out. With SA you start getting an idea of whats expected and what is a SAM.

Wich is a good CMS program forcountermeasures?
Wichid replied to LcSummers's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Of course the best thing to do is never get yourself into a situation where you need to resort to countermeasures. I only use manual mode when I setup a run in and want to slowly fire off flares in case there is a manpad lurking. Almost all the other times I leave it in semi auto and only hit start and stop when things go horribly wrong. -
I was totally expecting the rear warning receiver to be a mirror!
