  1. He may be referring to a source such as this one (taken from the US Army’s 3-04.203): 1-197. Recovery from settling with power may be affected by one, or a combination, of the following ways: -During the initial stage (when a large amount of excess power is available), a large application of collective pitch may arrest rapid descent. If done carelessly or too late, collective increase can aggravate the situation resulting in more turbulence and an increased rate of descent. -In single-rotor helicopters, aviators can accomplish recovery by applying cyclic to gain airspeed and arrest upward induced flow of air and/or by lowering the collective (altitude permitting). Normally, gaining airspeed is the preferred method as less altitude is lost. -In tandem-rotor helicopters, fore and aft cyclic inputs aggravate the situation. By lowering thrust (altitude permitting) and applying lateral cyclic input or pedal input to arrest this upward induced flow of air, the aviator can accomplish recovery. It’s never really taught as a recovery option, since getting into vrs unwittingly in the first place is a result of poor flying technique. If someone accidentally finds themself settling, it’s probably too late for the collective pull to save them. How much power would be required exactly would be a function of gross weight, and power available, with something above hover power certainly being required if no fore/aft/later cyclic is applied.
  2. Don, As someone who has a Gunfighter, and a T-50, I think you won’t be disappointed. I ran a WH grip on it until I received my MCG, and the T-50 has been collecting dust pretty much the entire time. Nothing wrong with the T-50, but I just like the feel of the Gunfighter better.
  3. I made the mistake of buying one of his helicopter sim control sets almost two years ago, and it was never shipped.
  4. Cool, thanks.
  5. Does this module still only use CCD/IR guided Mavs like the A-10?
  6. So where's the NH-90? After how many years?
  7. Just wanted to say thanks again! It took a little reading to figure out, but programming the stick through VKBDevConfig doesn't seem too hard now.
  8. I'll take a look, thanks
  9. Thanks Sokol. I have the KG-12 profile, and have tried it, but I'm trying to make the pinkie switch (NWS) on the Warthog grip a shift button.
  10. Does anyone know if if there's a way to map buttons with the VKB config software such that one of the buttons on the stick is a "shift" button? Basically, such that the DX buttons are numbered 1-30 (arbitrary number) without the buttons pressed, and 31-60 with the shift button pressed? I know DCS has modifiers built in, but I'm hoping there's a way to do this outside the sim, kind of like Target with TM products.
  11. I wouldn't dare. Unless you want a weak, less useful helicopter that can't carry near the same combat load. Aside from that, the poll isn't really complete. There are a ton of other 60 variants. Honestly, I think a Lima model is probably more probable and feasible. If attack is all people really want, the Columbians have the AH-60 DARPIA, although I suspect it could be re-configured for other missions.
  12. When going to the menu for the map, I should be able to use the large right knob to select which option I want to change (Orientation, Auto Zoom, Land Data, Avtn Data), and then use the small right knob to scroll through the options for that field, followed by an enter press to select which option I want to use for that field. Currently in the sim, you use the large left knob to select the field you want to modify, but the small right knob doesn't do anything, and you seem to just use the enter button to toggle different options. This isn't how the real one works.
  13. Has anyone been able to fly an RNAV approach with the 430? In the real 430, you can select an approach by pressing the PROC button, and then select an airfield, then the approach. After you select the approach, it loads into the flight plan. I can't seem to get the sim to operate that way. I'm trying on the Nevada map in the cold start quick mission. The 430 in the sim doesn't seem to let me change airfields after pressing the PROC button, and select approach. It will only show the approaches for Mc Carran (and the names for those approaches don't seem right either). If I press the CLR button to try and get to the airfield selection portion, it doesn't let me select an approach for the new airfield (I've been trying to use Laughlin, ICAO ID KIFP).
  14. Grease pencil
  15. I'm curious, has anyone ever done a grease mark mod on the Huey? It would be cool (and realistic) to have backup grease marks on the windshield for the armed variant. Also, it would make it easier to shoot with the miniguns fixed forward from the left seat. I did do a Google search for such a mod, but came up with nothing.
  16. This works great Chic, thanks for doing the leg work on that!
  17. Would a compromise be (for those who wish to use encoders) to add a function like ‘turn left outer knob one click’?
  18. Seems like this function shouldn’t be controlled by the amount of time the button is pressed, but instead by the number of times the button is pressed. The real life 430 has a notch feeling in the knobs, so one notch equal one ‘click’ of movement so to speak.
  19. Just looked through the 430 manual, and the only thing I could find was that the clear key will return to the default nav page when held. Otherwise it just deletes, or cancels an entry. It doesn't work as described in the first post. From page 1-3: (5) CLR Key – Used to erase information, remove map detail, or to cancel an entry . Press and hold the CLR key to immediately display the Default NAV Page.
  20. Force trim doesn't move the center, it just moves the point that the force gradient holds the controls. You can still push against the force gradient to the control stops, but total throw remains the same in all axes.
  21. On the real 430, you hold clear from any page to go back to the default nav page.
  22. Is there wind in the mission? A crosswind will cause you to have a different heading than your desired track in order to hold that track.
  23. I have both the Vipers and the F1 pedals. I pretty much echo everything Goblin says. I use the cam with the softest center for each set, and have found the center softer (more smooth) on the Baur pedals. I do like the brake pedal travel better on the Slaw's than the Baur pedals, but as it stands, right now the Baurs are my primary, and the Slaws are the backup. Bottomline, I don't think you could go wrong with either set. I find them both fantastic.
  24. Just windows defender. It's on a separate SSD from the operating system. I am using OVGME to install and uninstall mods, and it works just fine with the standard install, and alpha, so I wouldn't think that would be the problem either.
  25. Not sure if anyone has had this problem before, but for some reason, if I install the beta, it will disappear off my hard drive after awhile. I've installed it three times now, even opened it and played it, but after awhile (not sure exactly when it happens), confirmed both before and after a restart, everything in the beta install folder disappears except any mods I have installed. Standard release and alpha builds seem to be unaffected.
