  1. Sorry I could have been more clear, but I was backing up jojo's assertion that the BE reference on the RDR display is likely wrong, as well as (hopefully) giving some background info.
  2. There was an interesting Fighterpilot Podcast on this topic recently. At the start of an operation prior to any engagements, AWACS will provide info (on hostiles for example) FROM the BE, as this is useful information to all friendlies listening in. As friendly and enemy groups get closer, individual flights will want info on the nearest hostile in BRA form (as in TO); this is so they can immediately turn in the right direction without having to work out everything from the BE reference point.

  5. Nah, still not multi-tasking. Think of our brains like single core CPUs. Both can only process one operation at a time, but do so many so quickly it seems like we're doing them at the same time. Learning is like optimising a programme so it takes up less processing requirements to the point where it barely takes up any processing power at all. And both can get overloaded to the point where they drop tasks or crash completely :) Just do a google search, all the top articles say we can't do it.
  6. Looney is right, humans can't truly multitask. We can learn to task switch between multiple activities rapidly with practice and that's it.

  12. Of course your opinion is as valid (and perhaps my choice of word troll wasn't quite appropriate). However, referring to people who provide feedback as complainers simply because it wasn't positive is in itself insulting. Critiques and complains are not the same thing; that's all I'm saying.
  13. When I first read the manual that was my interpretation too, but reading again I think that's not how it works. It's an absolute position control (like stick/ rudder etc) not relative like trim. So basically a button wouldn't work because as soon as you let go DLC would snap back to neutral. That's not to say they can't do a relative control option of course.
  14. Please, don't troll by accusing people of providing criticism of complaining. They're not the same thing. I don't buy the time argument either. 4 pilots + 1 RIO + someone managing the stream (I'm guessing) for 1.5-2.0 hours is at least 1 person day of work. Plenty of time for someone to do a video showing us some of the features. Don't get me wrong, I'll take any video they give us. I just don't understand the logic of Heatblur's PR. They're going to so much trouble to go into real detail (Cobra has previously provided some great posts on various topics) and I think the community really liked them. I always assumed they'd follow up with similar in video form.
  15. Interesting videos. The second one in particular it looked like the VS suddenly jumps at the last moment for no appreciable reason (VV stays in same place).
  16. I think a more instructional video would have been better, preferrably narrated. Some pattern work, a carrier landing, and/or a Phoenix shot perhaps.
  17. Lose the attitude. 24 hours ago you didn't even know the ailerons drooped with flaps, so don't talk like you're an expert.
  18. ? The TEFs barely move in response to roll, and no-where in the manual can I see them described as aiding roll control. Moving a degree or so is hardly significant compared to how much the ailerons move. You can claim they're flaperons if you like I guess, I don't really mind.
  19. I think you've got the logic the wrong way around. The inboard surfaces are the trailing edge flaps (TEF). They are only come down to provide lift and do not provide any roll control. The outboard surfaces (referred to as ailerons in the manual) act as 'flaperons'. They provide extra lift in conjunction with the TEFs as well as roll control.

  21. It's not a problem I've encountered. However a pattern of problems seems to be forming. Not good, especially considering the price tag.
  22. But that's exactly what override will do.
  23. 'Gain' switch to 'override', on the left hand console. The flaps won't go fully up, but will remain in a fixed position. You can still lower them with the flap switch if you wish.
